A dusty road near Pontelli. A coach is speeding along... ... when suddenly a dark figure jumps up - holding two pistols - and shouts: "Stand and deliver!" With screeching tires the coach comes to a halt. Mr. White (looking outside of the coach): "Dennis, what is up? Why are we stopping?" Highwayman: "Because of me." Mr. White: (screams) Highwayman: "Now my fine friends, No false moves please." Mr. White: "You can take my gold. But leave us in peace!" Highwayman: "Gold? No. I want you to hand me all the tulips you got." Mr. White: "Tulips?" Highwayman: "Yes, tulips. Come on, come on." Dennis M. (the coachman): "What do you mean, tulips?" Highwayman: "Don't try and play for time." Dennis M.: "I'm not, you mean those flowery thingies?" Highwayman: "Yes, that's right." Mr. White: "Well we haven't got any tulips" Highwayman: "Look, my fine friends. I happen to know that this is the Tulip Express." Mr. White (sighs): "Well, so much for our tulips... Who are you?" Highwayman: "My name is Man. Highway Man." (laughs) The story so far: Something for a Lady Buying Some Flowers Captain Cookies next move Gray's Universal Store What is he doing here? [REVIEW] 31120 Medieval Castle
Captain Braunsfeld replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Fine review! I took a look at the ratings you've given. To me the set is somewhat divisive: Yes, you get those great new knights - but at the same time only two of them. There used to be many more in Lego's earlier castle sets. 2 knights would have been something for a 18€ set (not too long ago). Yes, you get a few bricks for your own castle design - but some are just panels (very disappointing). So, I would reduce both "playability" and "parts" to 6. Otherwise I agree with your results. -
The first LTP - continued

Nobody expects the ... monkey But wait, there is no monkey. And the tulip field took ages to complete! Quite so. Right, right. Please move on! Yes, and I always wondered where he got that elegant brown suit. Nobody, of course. Totally unexpected. (I should plan the next cliffhanger more carefully ). But anyway, a lot of comments had requested for the marquis to appear.- 8 replies

Nice reuse of that old baseplate! And I can see that the walls are sloped - good job! Would you like to add a photo from above? -
Remember? We were at: Outside of Pontelli. Tuesday afternoon. Slim Shady was telling his story. Sorry about the cliffhanger... (see: the first LTP) .... And then, after what seemed a small eternity, the door of the shed slowly opened and - much to my surprise - a nobleman stepped out in front of me. It seemed that I had interrupted his tea time, as he stepped out with a cup of fresh tea in his hands, leaning on his elegant mahagoni walking cane, wearing some brownish suit. He seemed to be a skilled fencer. I guess he was a kind of marquis or so and I suspect him to be from Oleon, because he was saying things like "Vous, vous vous" and "veux veux veux". Then, as if a button had been pressed, the aristocrat spoke to me in my own language: "Well, good man, what is it you desire?" Slim Shady: "Your grace, I am but an honest merchant, far from home, trying hard to make a living. All I desire, is to buy a few tulips." The Marquis: "Tulips? You mean those flowery thingies?" Slim Shady: "Yes, your grace." The Marquis: "Well then, how many do you want. One, two, three, four?" Slim Shady: "Can I have a little more?" The Marquis: "Five, six, seven and ten?" Slim Shady: "It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth: I want it all. I want it all.I want it all. And I want it now!" The Marquis paused for a second. Then he said: "My young friend, I have but hundreds of tulips." Slim Shady: Yes! The Marquis: "They will cost you a fortune!" Slim Shady: I know! The Marquis: "And my workers are busy day and night to grow even more!" Slim Shady: Excellent! The Marquis: "Buddy, you're a young man, hard man, shouting in the street, gonna take on the world someday, but seriously, won't you consider buying something more real. Like a house or so? Or a ship" Slim Shady: I want tulips!!! The Marquis: "This is what you said. But peradventure you might not be well versed with the craft of mathematics. Buying my field of tulips will cost you more than 900 dubloons!" Slim Shady: Yes, your grace, I know. I have the money with me. We can close the transaction right here and now. The Marquis (sighing after a long pause): "Well then, young man, if this is truly your wish I will not stand in your way. And I'll make a special offer for you. You can have my tulips for 900 dubloons + one banana. Slim Shady continues his tale: And so the deal was closed. I had more tulips that I could dream of and the price was more than justified. I would certainly be rich soon! Plus, the extra banana turned out to be quite cheap - at least, when compared to current tulip prices... I love this. The first picture is clearly the best We are immediately drawn into the scene. Tulips in a greenhouse... why do I build large outside plantations???
-
Fine creation that takes the classic pirate feel to the 2020s. Just one thing: where is the monkey?

The first LTP
Captain Braunsfeld replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks. So I have managed the internationally famed design aesthetics of Animal Crossings. Cheers to that! Feel free. I always thought that tulips had to be built that way Looking forward to your vig! Don't worry, the story is just entering the "middle section". Ah, you are remembering those names. That is good. The guy will definitely return. But is he the plantation owner? Oh, yes, I PLUCKED A LOT OF LEVERS. I actually started working with pincers as the levers did not want to be plucked. And then I used tweezers to repair the tulips when something had come off again... I am happy that you like the humour of the story Graag gedaan! The plantation will make the EWTC rich!! Why would it be a monkey? In my storyline? Would I ever? What I can say, is, it will be someone aristocratic. I wanted to start the story and so I ordered hundreds of levers on Bricklink. It is getting hard to count but for this build more than 300 levers had to be "plucked". And tediously attached to those green thingies (and they tend to fall off again). So this MOC has a very high part count (is that the word? "part count"? Sounds more like some nobleman) -
Outside of Pontelli. Tuesday afternoon. A small path leads to a shed next to a field. Well-known merchant Slim Shady approaches a guy working on the field: "Oi, squire!" Man working on the field: My name is Mike, Mr. Shady: Well, well, Mikemister. Nice to talk to you. I'm here on business. Mike: What do you want? Shady: Well, I happened to see that you are growing one or two tulips here. Mike: Well, that... Mike: ... might just be... Mike: ... an understatement. Shady: Well, what I wanted to say is that you, Mikemister and the other mechanics here are working on a really fantastic plantation. Mike: Yes, we call it the first LTP. Shady: LTP? Mike: Yes, "Large Tulip Plantation". Shady: Fascinating. I am fascinated. And I want to buy your tulips. Mike: How many do you want, one, two? Shady: All of them. I am buying all of them. Mike: Wow. Oh, I see. That is beyond my paygrade. Shady: Which means, Mikemister? Mike (pointing to the shed): Which means that you must talk to the boss. Shady: So, you are not the boss. He is inside the shed? Mike: Yes. But he actually has more than one shed. Shady: Two sheds? Is he by any chance two-sheds Jackson? Mike (shakes his head and turns to the shed) Boss, could you come out, Sir? There is a gentleman wanting to see ya! Shady later told the story: So there I stood, in the middle of this extraordinarily large plantation, waiting to see who was the man in charge. And then, after what seemed a small eternity, the door of the shed slowly opened and - much to my surprise - ... Tulips in the Garden
Captain Braunsfeld replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Whether I already know the story or not? How dare you! Well, it is actually a good question. I've started some storylines with less of a clue how it would end. For this storyline I know how it will proceed and end. Do I know which build will be the next one? Yes, at least roughly. Are the builds storyboarded? No The house was actually intended as a "medieval building study". But then the house offered the chance of having that discussion above in the backyard. I cannot recommend building houses out of olives. I think bricks are still the best option. Pls. check my answer above. The monkeys have also complained that they are currently missing from this storyline- 4 replies

[COR-FB] Oktoberfest Regrets, Punto Sur
Captain Braunsfeld replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
fine build! I like the base, well constructed and unusual. -
Pontelli. Early morning on a Saturday. An ordinary street. Everything is quite quiet but there is some argument going on in the backyard of the houses... Neighbour on the left: Hullo there. Neighbour on the right: Goodday Sam! Neighbour on the left (Sam): Whatcha doing there, Piedro? Neighbour on the right (Piedro): I'm checking how my flowers are doing. Neighbour on the left (Sam) - we will just write Sam, when we go on, because this is getting too long and cumbersome and all the readers will be confused: Oi, they look just like mine! Neighbour on the right (Piedro) - I think we will also shorten this to just "Piedro" to enhance overall readability - unless the monkeys put their veto in: Seems so, Sam. Surprised? Sam (see?): Yeah. You have removed all your carrots. Why are you doing this? Piedro (I told you): For the same reason as you are, probably. To make some money. These flowery thingies can be sold to excellent prices! And you have removed all the melons you were usually growing. Sam: Yes, I have. The tulips will bring me more money. For how much do you plan to sell yours? Piedro: My merchant will give me 4 dubloons for every 5 tulips. Sam: Such much? Piedro: Seems so, Sam. Successful sales strategy! Sam: But you gotta sell 'em quick. Piedro: Why so? Sam: 'Cos there's gonna be a monetary reform, they say. The politicians have been discussing with a delegate from Corrington. Our dubloons will be replaced by pnounds and pnence! Piedro: How many pnence are a pnound? Sam: Unclear. Piedro: Why should we change our monetary system? Sam: Unclear. Piedro: Well, then I should close my deals quickly - the politicians might just go for it. Sam: Maybe. I got to water my tulips. See ya! Piedro: See ya! Great design, I like it a lot and I draw a lot of inspiration for my next projects from it! -
Nice bunch of people - and the "official" poster is, of course, great. My favorite is that courtier guy with his harp-thingy. Do I spot some illegal building techniques here and there?

This is sooo fantastic. Very inspiring. I should build something similar (or buy the necessary bricks first...)

The Tulip Traders
Captain Braunsfeld replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yepp, I built this especially with photography in mind (which I usually forget and then things don't look like I'd want them to...). Almost some "forced perspective"-approach. I strongly believe that they are twins. The painting is "the Girl with the Pearl Earring" from Johannes Vermeer, one of the painters of the Dutch Golden Age (1665). Captain Cookie never misses a chance to gather information ... And - what most people don't know - he did all of this over the course of his lunch break.- 8 replies
