  1. While I agree that the bones of those sets are nice, a couple of sets that you can adapt to work does not make it better than a poor year for castle fans. Some degree of consolation maybe, but it's still going to be a long slow year for us.
  2. I agree that the front is too short. Adding another stud of length really helped (dang, I need to post pics). I also agree that the windshield is too square, but I'm not aware of a better solution using existing parts. I would welcome any suggestions there.
  3. I agree. The Brick Bounty is actually pretty nice, but the other sets are like rehashes of rehashes. I'm glad to see Pirates back, but not thrilled with the majority of the sets. I hope Castle is at least up to par with Kingdoms, and a fusion of Kingdoms and FE would take it to the next level.
  4. These are both super cool! I'd love to see them with speed champions wheels.
  5. Thanks! I agree that 8 wide swings the proportion pendulum a bit in the other direction. That said, I prefer too wide to too narrow. I've actually played with the design some and added some length in the nose which looks better. I'll post some updated pics when I get the chance. If you look at the real car, they're actually pretty good for Lego.
  6. Thank you sir! The Speed Racer comparison is surely not a bad thing. I just barely missed those sets in my dark ages and I like 'em. Here's an updated shot. Nothing too major, just tweaked the interior a tad and added a LaFerrari!
  7. The Porche was so much fun, I had to try the LaFerrari next. By far, the biggest concession here is the windshield, but I find the stubby front glass less objectionable than the narrowness of the regular set. Also, I saw someone mention the crazy side mirrors in the Speed Champions thread, so I added those here and really like them. Apologies in advance for the less than stellar photography. Let me know what y'all think. Here's the stock set for comparison:
  8. Thanks! I just did the widening on the LaFerrari today and I'm happy with how it turned out. I'll likely post a thread on that one tomorrow. I think the P1 is likely the worst offender as far as these cars being too narrow, and it's going to be a challenge simply because of the bright orange color. Mine might have to get black stripes.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions, but a 918 isn't available with a traditional gear shift lever and the radius on that slope is much too large for this scale.
  10. I got this set today, and while I like it, something about the proportions didn't sit right with me. So, I started over on it and this is what I ended up with. I'm sure I'll play with it some more, but figured you guys would like to see how it turned out so far. Edit: Here's the regular set for comparison:
  11. Oh, I see. Sticking as close to the model as possible. Makes sense!
  12. It's nice that you matched the colors. Looks like it needs some headlights though. :-)
  13. Man, I've never encountered such good castle parts in the build a fig area. It's always hula girl torsos and ice skater legs.
  14. That's really strange. Seems like placeholder images. Edit: there's at least one more. Seems like crazy already existing parts swapping. http://kocka.hu/Lego_LM0002/LEGO_Minifigurak_-_Lovag_csomag_2._(3_minifiguraval)
  15. Cool! Gnarly story, beautiful details and the triptych design is a great idea.
  16. Never heard of that cartoon, didn't need prior knowledge to perceive kk2 as bad. There's not much in the way of unique parts there. It'd probably be pretty easy and affordable to build with spare parts/bricklink.
  17. That's fair. I have some of the shields and armor in rotation, but most everything else is pretty bad.
  18. If by "ok" you mean "terrible", I and the rest of the AFOL community agree with you.
  19. Thanks for the feedback! This was a fun one to do. Glad you found it! Thanks for the inspiration.
  20. That's a really nice alternate build. I may have to try that one.
  21. That's fun. My first set was the original joust.
  22. I had this set as a kid, It's really nice to see it again. The fourth photo appears to be a bit broken though. Thanks for posting this!
  23. I'm glad to see this thread back at the top. It really is a fantastic resource. I liked when it was pinned at the top, and it would be nice if the first post were updated, though I'm sure that's no small amount of work. edit: I didn't realize that the first page had been edited to include 2013 castle, so I stand corrected. Thanks to those that maintain this thread. It's a good one.
  24. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect we could get a new helmet mold. Heck, even if we don't it'll feel like it's full of new molds because I bet we can expect new CMF pieces like king's crown, princess hat and wizard hat.
  25. This is really cool! The modular nature of it is just icing (get it, "icing"?) on the cake.
