  1. Thank you. The issue that I have with some of Bionicle's later years is pretty much this. From 2001 through 2003, at least, most of the areas with different textures were clearly demarcated different components. Meanwhile, in the later years, that changed to have some parts consist of about five different styles at once, while at other times, they adopted different visual styles for components that could better have been left identical.
  2. Wait, are there new images out?
  3. I may not normally be a castle fan, and while some of these designs do look somewhat unpolished (which could just be caused by their preliminary nature), I love the minifig designs and I am considering picking up the Chaos Chariot and the Castle (seriously, why was I ever skeptical of this set?) when I get the chance. I feel that it's almost inevitable that the second wave will feature sci-fi dragons of some kind, though, so I might have to avoid buying the Chaos Chariot if that turns out to be true.
  4. Very nice, but the torso seems a bit too short for its shoulders.
  5. Personally, I feel that a: the Mask of Control featured in Umarak the Hunter is a broken version, which will be restored to a more animation-accurate version in his summer set. Also, it seems strange that only certain parts of the toa have been replaced with technic constructions, and that it's often asymmetrical. Maybe they got injured by the bear traps and they needed bandages/artificial limbs? A bit too dark I think, but it could explain the weird mismatch of textures.
  6. More complicated, but uglier. That's my problem with the new sets. Technic isn't well suited for situations in which it is completely exposed, because the net result looks incoherent and unfinished. If you're building a robot with the same range of motion as a human, would you really forget to put a dust cover over its parts? The thing would seize up within a couple of months or even a few weeks.
  7. Sorry, I got confused with those on his knees.
  8. I personally prefer the way Technic was integrated into CCBS in 2015. Technic is relegated to functions only, which makes sense, since it's supposed to be used for mechanisms and technical stuff. CCBS really shines when it comes to aesthetics. Based on this, my ideal version of these sets would have used a seperate, more CCBS-like piece (with a technic mechanism attached to said part) rather than the technic piece actually used for the bottom of the torsos, plus a lack of that technic mass on Kopaka and Lewa's weird legs. I would also have liked to see some use of technic beams with ball joints integrated into them to allow CCBS shells to cover up some of the more obtrusive weapon functions, like Tahu's. EDIT: Desu, that's exactly what I was thinking, both about the 4m bones and about Tahu's new swords.
  9. That Chi Fluminox is simply Lewa with his creature attached to his back. Also, I think you're the first person I've seen, Desu, that uses the word sentient properly. Most people use it when they mean sapient.
  10. Yeah, I'm worried about that too. There's just so much ugly-looking technic. Also, I think Tahu's skull-like add-on (it's pretty definitely not the same thing) may be attached unconventionally, considering that only one pin seems to be connected. Maybe it's another technic connection? Hopefully not though, and it'll just turn out to be a CGI fail.
  11. I hope it's done in a style kind of halfway between the soothingly simple-looking yet intricate style of the 2015 animations and that of the first three movies. Which, now that I think about it, is pretty much CM4Sci's style as an animation.
  12. How do you know they're mindless? I've got a bad feeling the toa will be suffering from Idiot Protagonist syndrome next year, being forced to follow the "animal intuition" (read: basic cognitive functions, accompanied by sarcastic looks) of their creatures. Although this is straying into story territory. EDIT: I've got to say, I much preferred the original design for the Mask of Control. Although it seems strange that they released it in the winter already. Maybe the animation form will be released in the summer, and it'll be revealed that the combination of corruption due the the MoUP and Ekimu's hammer blow broke the mask, requiring the power of the creatures to reforge it? Then the Mask of Control's powers could only come into play later in the story, adding a valid reason for the Beasts being a summer release. EDIT2: Also, whatever the thing in Pohatu's box art is, it looks terrifying, like a mountain fused with a squid by way of H.R. Giger. If that's the Quake Beast, I'm impressed with LEGO for coming up with such an innovative design. If it's just a random mountain, like it probably is, oh well, it looked cool. EDIT3: Nevermind, it's just a bear trap with it's mouth opened really, really far.
  13. No matter what, though, Umarak is cool. Even with the weird moss hair. Also, it amuses me how birdlike the new mask is. Technically, that means we've gotten what everyone wanted out of the Bota Magna arc: an entire wave with biomechanical dinosaurs. I'm in two minds regarding Bionicle G2 now. On one hand, excessive technic and no innovative CCBS builds (but SW seems set to provide that, which kind of mollifies me). On the other, lots of recolors, with Pohatu featuring the third or fourth brown color in CCBS.
  14. Also, what's up with that torso? They seem to have removed the balljoint there for a rather pointless bit of detailing, thereby making the torso significantly less useful for MOCcing. EDIT: Wait, does that have a gear behind it? Okay, I'll consider that a reasonable sacrifice, although I really hope they leave the upper part of the torso smooth and properly CCBS.
  15. Eegh, that is one ugly mess of technic . I really hope they don't continue that into the rest of the year. I liked everything else about these sets, but that's just eeegh. At least my favorite, Onua, is still a pretty and sleek CCBS set (with tr. purple studs!), so I guess I'll get him and his creature (for those glorious tr. purple chima claws and 4m bones ). But what's with that weird lighting error making the end of his staff purple? How the heck did that happen?
  16. CM4Sci provided a picture. It ended up with asymmetrical wings due to him being sick and not noticing the disparity though. But I can imagine the creatures having a system to attach themselves to the area under the gearbox, possibly with a little gear set to interlock with the Toa's gear to allow use of the functions while attached.
  17. Good god the Jungle Mosquito creature thing looks awesome. Two different molds used for tr. wings with silver bases (seemingly, and they appear to be repurposed swords), four silver claws and a silver tail. I may not like the reduced number of limbs, but at least LEGO is being consistent about the way they handle arthropods (take the number of limbs and remove one pair for a set, two pairs for a gimmick). EDIT: Nevermind, the wings appear to be either just the system pieces used by the Galaxy Squad bugs recolored to tr. apple green, either attached to one pair of swords, or attached to an assembly with a different colored system piece. The funny way the creatures' masks combine with those of their Toa make me think of a very different kind of Unity.
  18. I dislike the Skrall/Vorox armor too. I don't really see why people want them so much. They don't work well with the CCBS aesthetic. Even the hyper-detailed Fire Villain flamethrower shell looks completely different, as does the Skull Villain armor add-on.
  19. There's a drawing of them online.
  20. Congratulations on your excellent punning. Don't forget the gold, either.
  21. There's also a purple piece at the non-hammer end of Onua's staff, if you look for it.
  22. Gali has a different weapon mold than Lewa and Tahu. She has a huge broadsword. Meanwhile, Pohatu has a mace and Onua has a hammer with a drill on one side and a minigun on the other, both of which seem creative enough. Those hair things are more like crystals or feathers, kind of like some of the early concept art we've seen. The reason the creature have the same head mold is to allow the heads to function as additional armor caps in the combined forms. The new armor add-on is simply a dual-color version of the Skull Villain armor, by the looks of it.
  23. I'm not sure to be saddened by the fact that Terak appears to use recolored chima claws for claws, which don't seem large enough for proper mole claws, at least not when using the Savage Planet paw, or gladdened by the new recolor. Also, the ribcage pieces on Onua seem strangely solid. Another possible recolor? The creature of fire (is its name Ikir?) seems to use the pieces Tahu and Lewa use as weapons as wings. And Tahu has just a little too much gold for my tastes. EDIT: Also, 4m limb bones in tr. purple in the Creature of Earth set!
  24. Not only that, but Makuta definitely had better aesthetic sense than Ekimu, too. The Mask of Ultimate Power looks way cooler than any of the masks Ekimu has made.
  25. Yeah, he has goals, but he isn't an idiot. Better to destroy a valuable resource if the chances your enemies' will acquire it otherwise are high.
