  1. I got the impression that, besides the obvious tropes, the fact that Chen used to be pretty cunning and is the official ruler, it's at least partially because a figurehead makes a good distraction. Seriously, who gets the chance to slip away? The leader, or the "harmless" minion?
  2. So, since I already know that I'm probably going to get 90% or more of these sets, I think it's worth saying that I'll be rebuilding some of Jestro's stuff into a red-and-black robber fly, using the ball joints on the Evil Mobile (which is a name that still makes me giggle) as the halteres and using the Crystal King crystal plates in tr. orange to make wings. Also, those complaining about there not being a proper space theme, stop whining. This theme is pretty much sci-fi in terms of aesthetics, even featuring a very classic space color scheme for the good guys. And LEGO has made some of its best space sets recently, while the Castle guys haven't had anything new in a long time. I may not be a castle fan, but I still have to admit that they've had it worse than sci-fi. Although the complaints about the color scheme are kind of unwarranted, considering the love given to certain past castle sets. Wasn't yellow a far more expensive dye than blue for most of history, to the point that it become the color of China's emperors?
  3. I've always had trouble gauging how my MOCs look to those with a different sense of aesthetics. Since I feel that this may be a common problem, I'd like to start up a program where, if one person wants to get feedback on their MOCs before they "officially" release them, they can say so here. Meanwhile, if you are willing to give constructive and precise criticism and advice, you can volunteer to do so here as well. To prevent chaos, I would then help match up the people who have asked for help with those that have volunteered to do so, resulting in every MOCcer getting one person as their test audience. What do you think?
  4. Thanks! I think the Skull armor can be used in a non-decayed-looking way by accentuating the sleekness of it. Presumably, it'd look a lot better if the build actually makes the character looks like they are supposed to have an exposed backwards ribcage.
  5. If you've got advanced technology, and your psychological tendencies are similar to those of humans, you're almost inevitably going to upgrade yourself to cyborg status at some point. Being able to use the more direct functions offered by technology along with the more complex interweaving systems of biology has nothing to do with it; awesomeness alone would probably convince most people. Also, that is one awesome picture.
  6. The fact that I like the breakout armor so much kind of contributes too, I guess. I'll probably cannibalize the dark azure shells and make a deep sea version of Gali using the darker blue from HF (Earth blue?).
  7. I've got to agree on all of these. Onua probably looks slightly better with black rather than gold, although black, purple and gold work well enough together that it's not too much of a difference. Also, the 3m shells on Tahu's shoulders are noticeably different-looking compared to his arm bones, which, while probably just a side effect of the lighting, could still imply tr. red.
  8. Yeah, me too. I'm thinking of giving Gali the orange SW armor add-on, but I wonder if it would look better if it was still asymmetrical.
  9. So, prison with lid, dragon-thing and one-man band?
  10. So, I've got to ask, is Gali a good enough set that she's worth getting two of? I don't like technic much, being a CCBS-only builder for the most part and I don't have any dark azure shells, nor have I made purchases to get tr. light blue bones yet, although I've wanted to get more of them.
  11. Tahu's expression is one of solemn derpitude. Also, I really hope that mata nui image doesn't mean anything. Also, the swords definitely connect. Note the axle on one side and lack on the other.
  12. ...They had the stagehands dressed up as ninjas. Ultimate recursiveness achieved.
  13. Small amounts of system are allowed, as demonstrated by the designer's use of windshields as eyes. But large amounts reduce your chances of winning.
  14. I've got two concepts in the work right now, both with vaguely outlandish but workable themes. How many are you working on?
  15. I really hope the question of whether or not LDD-built masks are allowed in the Mask Maker contest is answered soon. Judging from the facebook reactions, I'm one of the few people with enough CCBS parts to make a mask using real parts, but I've been working in LDD on my entry, so I really hope they are allowed.
  16. Maybe it's really LoSS who masterminded all the events from day one ?
  17. Yeah, I started designing MOCs that will use it the moment we first saw leaks. I think my favorites design-wise are probably the Mixies. They also have solid purple Chima claws, which is a recolor I'm very excited to see, and I'm also glad to see that I didn't miss my chance to get more golden claws what with the pirate-themed mixels.
  18. There are little red axles on the sides of the library.
  19. I'm pretty sure both the big lava golem set and the King's mech have knees.
  20. I really love the look of all of these. Next year is going to be expensive, what with me getting at least the whole first two waves of Mixels, most if not all of Nexo Knights and Ninjago and a little bit of Bionicle and maybe SW ultrabuilds.
  21. Great, now I want to get that juniors set just for that Venomari character. Also, I'm not sure I like the way the pirate's dark green hat goes with his orange attire.
  22. I think people are missing the point of Nabii's post. Namely, if other castle themes can feature nonhistorical magic, why can't Nexo Knights feature nonhistorical technology, which is at least plausible? Also, I think I might end up buying every set in the lineup, even the horse and the blade cruiser, which look much better than I thought they would, and the library, which...isn't. And the King's Mech uses a Hero Factory visor. Nice to see that make a short-lived comeback.
  23. I knew the head was a custom piece, I was just wondering exactly what the name of it was.
  24. Nexo Knights is kind of the flip side of Star Wars. SW has fairly normal sci-fi characters with a vague knight/paladin order veneer laid over them, while Nexo Knights is Castle with a sci-fi touch. Although I dislike SW, there is one thing that SW currently has that Nexo Knights doesn't: properly monstrous creatures. Seriously, a book of monsters should be able to spawn stuff more creative than generic, if nicely-done, humanoids made of lava and living fireballs.
  25. I think he just wants to destroy all of Ekimu's greatest works, due to angry logic of the "if my works aren't appreciated, yours will not be either" kind.
