I'm more in awe of Dokludi's abilities than the model itself but it doesn't look bad. New panels/beams in silver would have been killer though.

I tried different foams and even cut some PVC tubing to fit inside the Rock Crusher XT's but nothing worked. The foam would always end up flat and the tubing worked well but there was a weak spot where the two ends meet. The best solution I found was to shove the Unimog tires inside They actually fit pretty well once you get them in and they keep the sidewalls nice and stiff. I reckon they would be able to support a 12-15 pound MOC without a problem.

An Arocs would be nice but being the supercar fan that I am, the W05 or AMG GT sounds better

I would gladly pay $250+ for a 1:8 scale W05. Mercedes have a lot to be proud of with their Formula 1 team and I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the WDC and WCC wins than a giant LEGO model. I can imagine the box and everything...

Ah, good to know! I purchased some closed cell foam inserts from Crawler Innovations that were suppose to fit the Rock Crusher XT's but there is still a bit of wiggle room inside. They work better than the soft foam that was included but I think something solid would work better. I thought about cutting a piece of plastic conduit or tubing and using that as a filler but that is not ideal of course.

I'm looking for some 1.9 tires for the 42030 Volvo. I currently have a set of Rock Crusher XT's on it but the compound is too soft. Are the GMade 1901 tires any harder? Or maybe you guys know of something else?

42030 - To Get or Not to Get
therealjustin replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was not really planning on getting the set right away and when I did, it would be for parts only. I purchased it in August and four months later I still have it on display It certainly has shelf presence and is easily one of the best Technic sets ever made. If you buy a few extra pieces to add Efferman's steering, put on aftermarket tires and fill in the holes in the bodywork it makes it that much more enjoyable to play with and look at. -
This is a must if you own the 42030. Stellar work indeed by Efferman! I was surprised at how many of the needed parts I had but I still had to order a few through Brick Link so I don't cannibalize other models I also grabbed a set of Crawler Innovations closed cell foam inserts for the rear tires to help with the weight of the battery box.

1H2015 Video Reviews
therealjustin replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the reviews! The 42039 was the one I wanted most and it could have been great but instead it fails to excite me at all, and I'm a fan of endurance racing. It just doesn't capture the look of the current LMP1 cars. The fenders look off with their squared-of edges and the tires are too small(or the car is too big). Flex axles in that green color would have been a better choice for fenders. -
Expensive parts have killed many of my ideas and attempts at building some of the excellent MOC's out there. The flex axles that were common place are now commanding $15-$20 each and when you need six of them it adds up quick. I cannot pay $100+ for thin pieces of rubber now matter how badly I want to build the model.

Building a Supercar MOC
therealjustin replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I should have clarified that I have parts from 9398 and 8070 to work with. The $200 is for the extra bits My choice would be the F40 if only for the scale, but even with all of the LXF files combined it does not seem like everything is there. Plus, those 14L flex axles are stupidly expensive. -

Nice, can't wait! Am I right in thinking that the 42039 b-model is like a Bowler EXR-type SUV? Or is it more like a buggy/car? -
[MOC] Off Road Pickup

I'm in love! Just wonderful! I know this will end up costing a lot of money but I don't care. I HAVE to build this truck. -
I made a few small improvements last night to my 42009. The rear superstructure has been raised and extended by one stud so as to match the front cabin height, and it now sits even with the boom.
