Looks familiar :). Nice work on the details like the wall textures and spilled flasks. The specimen jars are perhaps a tad too big: more like bacta tanks.

Awesome. Been watching the WIP shots on flickr. I believe the supports are sprung, am I right? Do you have an equally impressive ship to land on the platform?

Review Review: ALIEN Project book by Arvo Brothers
Missing Brick replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
There appear to be plenty of the black round windshields for sale: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=62360#T=S&C=11&O={"color":11} Ribbed hoses can be assembled from shorter lengths using technic pins as joiners. And the non-structural long tail tube can be substituted by a non lego part (eg. Black choker necklace tube). Hope that helps.- 16 replies

Great job on this. Like the monochrome scenery as seen thru the magic sunglasses.

Nice job. The rear wheel steering is a great addition. The gun rails need a bit more work (the front attachment is normally 2 studs further forward). Great work overall.

Review Review: ALIEN Project book by Arvo Brothers
Missing Brick replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
@ DrJB, ah yes - the CMF footballer fez piece they use to top the 4 back spines. I didn't bother with that part - it honestly looks fine without it (checkout the picture on my flickr). But for obsessives - yes - you will need to hunt down 4 CMF footballers. Last time I looked these were still widely available and about £3 each + postage - but there was no way I was going to spend >£20 for those 4 tiny parts.- 16 replies

Review Review: ALIEN Project book by Arvo Brothers
Missing Brick replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Hi DrB, if you have trouble getting the long ribbed hoses, it's possible to make them up from shorter lengths joined together with black technic pins pushed inside each piece. I used this method and it looks fine (eg. on the shoulder and leg hoses). The only part I couldn't find was the very long hose in the tail, so I used a non-lego black tube instead (from a black choker chain). Works a treat since the hose is only decorative, not structural. For scarce parts like the 4 dino tail base pieces used in the spines on the Alien's back, they offer alternative part builds using cones plus the more common tail sections which look OK. Re the problem with him popping his 'shoes' off if he leans forward too much: I found a way to mod the internal foot design to get one extra stud to attach to the front part of the foot. This mostly solves the problem. A 1x3 plate on the side also helps. Mines been been assembled for 3 months now and he still seems very sturdy - so the structural strength is very good.- 16 replies

Review Review: ALIEN Project book by Arvo Brothers
Missing Brick replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Great review Bob. But please note that when you order the book the Arvo Brothers will email you the parts list in electronic form so you can import it into Bricklink without any trouble. The only improvement I'd suggest to the parts list would be to flag those parts which are buried within the model - since they can be changed to any colour without affecting the external appearance. That would have saved some money on the parts. I had great fun building the model and the finished Alien looks awesome and is quite sturdy. Highly recommended.- 16 replies

Mass Minifigure Collection - Display Frame
Missing Brick replied to durazno33's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Nice. Do you think it would work with 1-stud wide plates instead of 2-wide? I want to make a very minimalist shelf stand - where you hardly notice the stand - and all focus is on the figures. I was thinking of standing the figs on 2-wide plates but your design makes me think I should flip it 90 degrees and just attach the back of the legs to a 1-wide plate....- 8 replies

[MOC] Sauron's Army - Grond and siege tower
Missing Brick replied to Khalim's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice army. It's a real shame TLG didn't produce any LOTR seige sets like this. Instead we got sets of a council meeting and a forge. Aiee yaaa. -
Nice. Seeing a moc like this always makes we wish TLG had produced some knights of Gondor and some decent moria orcs. Improvement suggestion would be to have the action at 45° to the xy plane of the studs - to make it more natural looking . Also to breakup the regularity of the studs with some random slopes and tiling on the ruins.

Nice but I think it owes more than a little to Nuju Metru's version, so an 'inspired by' credit wouldn't be out of place. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69127

[MOC] WIP ~20,000 piece Battle at Helm's Deep
Missing Brick replied to samiam391's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great looking Helms Deep and uruk army. Only one minor nit-pick: you should really swap out those 400 Halberds for long pikes as seen in the movie. It's a real shame TLG chose to include those Halberds in the uruk polybag set, because there's no way uruks would be carrying such an elaborate, ornate weapon. On the plus side - once you have added long pikes you can create interesting 'sea-of-pikes' effects by angling them differently across the army - drawing attention to certain areas of the battle by angling the pikes towards them.- 20 replies

Thanks Isundir, gerkenz and Lego Train. Glad you liked.

Thanks Klods. Yes - she's half a metre tall. I ran out of white bricks for the door so had to make it half open using a mirror (with some rather crude photoshopping to remove the reflection of the Alien's feet!)

[/url] The HR Giger Alien figure design is by The Arvo Brothers - built from instructions in their fantastic 'Alien Project' book. Highly recommended for all Alien fans! Arvo Brothers Flickr Page ArvoBrothers.com The figure stands 0.5m tall. It's packed with great details and clever building techniques. There's a review of the book here I was so happy with my figure I decided to build a little Nostromo environment for it!

Nice moc of a Classic game - those opening levels were completely mind-blowing at the time it was released. Interesting to see the original in-game floor texture looks alot like lego studs. That's handy!

Watched this documentary last night on Channel 4 in the UK. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/inside-lego-at-christmas Included a brief chat with the designers of the Star Wars TFA line, some glued Xmas builds by Bright Bricks, a guy who was making a Lego compatible board game and some other bits and bobs. My take: they made a potentially fascinating subject boring by focusing exclusively on people rather than lego creations. eg. they were at the Great Western Brickshow in Swindon but didn't show any of the fan builds or layouts. Instead we got endless interviews with staff at the Lego call centre (which, to be honest, might aswell be any corporate call centre dealing with any product, anywhere in the world). I understand the film maker's desire to find a human interest angle - but wish they gave a bit more screen time to some expert builder's cool creations (and not just that 'Merry Christmas' build which was a bit basic for my tastes).

REVIEW: 75104 Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle
Missing Brick replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Nice review. But for me it's too "studdy". Those wings really need to be made smooth using lift arms for reinforcement like the imperial shuttle. I'm guessing a UCS version will come along eventually - giving them an opportunity to remedy the fixed wing problem aswell. -
Great vehicle and remake concept.
