[COR-FB] ETTC Warehouse in King's Harbour
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks all - I am happy you liked it. Thanks, mate! I really like those two colours together. This was actually build originally to be part of a large porticoed square, but didn't fit in. I liked it nonetheles and had to find a different use for it. And yeah, I have so many of those bases, I try to find creative ways of using them! I just loooooooove arches! And I am happy you like the shed - needed to fill space, but felt another building was too much. And yeah - rolling barrels look nice - but in the first pic, you can see that the guy rolling the big barrel rolled it a bit too far... I see many people asking for more ground texture - and while I can see why, I sort of like the classic look of the studs. Besides, it's a quayside, not a royal courtyard! Glad you like the house! Thanks Phred! My brother bought me a bunch (like... a BIG bunch) of those crates, so I need to find uses for the somewhere! -
[ESL-3T2] Sloop El Gran Grin
Bregir replied to Captain Green Hair's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great looking sloop, Captain - there is no doubt you are one of the veterans in shipbuilding! The highlight here is the rigging - I enjoy seeing the different blocks and tackles, and the very nice looking sails. I would have anchored the shrouds further backwards to counter the tension of the forestays, but that is a rather minor details and would have made placement of gunports somewhat complicated. Do you use glue for the ratlines? And what is the material you use for sails and string? The hull is great too, and I like the way you have created the tumblehome (and masked the off-colour of the hull) in a very analogue way, while still making it look brilliant. To that can be added that the amount of details and the finish is an inspiration to me. It is a bit atypical for a vessel this size to have a rear cabin, I would say, but you have implemented it brilliantly! The swivel guns are a very nice design, as is the main guns, although I think they narrow down a bit too much. However, it is a nice way to make a different size of gun the the 1x1 round brick... Lastly, if you are interested, the Montoya Estate would be able to help you finance it (on reasonable terms, of course). Ship me a PM (OOC or IC) and we can discuss terms. EDIT: BTW, with all those headsails, would she be more correctly labelled a cutter? -
[COR - Aug FB1] Botany House, Mooreton Bay
Bregir replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Personally, I find this particularly interesting! The colour scheme is great, and I think you have included some nice architectural details on the building it self (in particular, the entrance and the gable.). Further, the surrounding wall is a good touch, as is the garden within it. The Society will prosper for the glory of science!- 10 replies

[FB - COR] Those smelly pig farmers... oh, bacon!
Bregir replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great looking pig pen, and the cabin is nice too. I think I would have either raised the gable above the roof, or extended the roof to have some overhang to the sides. Currently, it looks abit odd. The layered dirt and mud in the pig pen is brilliant, and I like the water trough and the fence too. Those piggies are going to be sad when they realise how bacon is made, though.... -
The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Welcome (back) Avery. I really like that backstory - and it will be interesting to see such a young character in these seas that tend to turn boys into men and men into harsh caricatures of what they once were! -

What about camera? And do you use a stand or tripod? Longer exposure might help :) -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Woah, this thing has exploded over the summer! Welcome to all the new members - I am really impressed by the quality and creativity of the introductions and sigfigs. It is good to see Avalonia thriving. I hope to add some builds and stories to the Trifork over the coming months, and will try my best to keep up with the activity on the forum too. -
Brilliant take on the delay and a stone quarry, Elostirion. I really like the lush vegetation, and the stack of cuttings. I have a question though: The wheel and axles seem somewhat out of place here - normally, I would think they were old parts of a wagon or similar, but this is not an old site. Are they meant to represent something special?

[OL-FB3] The Man from the King's Court-Part 4
Bregir replied to Franco Clarke's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I would suggest flextubes, but in the absence of those, you can use different lenghts of bars. And if you ensure that the rigging is balanced, the stays *should* press the mast downwards, and allow them to stand. With the right distribution of force, they should also allow you to make some horisontal pressure too. I am currently working on a build including a small sloop. There I have used small bars inside the round bricks. And while it is somewhat vulnerable to sideways pressure (where the bars meet), it stands relatively well. -
[OL-FB3] The Man from the King's Court-Part 3
Bregir replied to Franco Clarke's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Really cool boatshed, and while I am in danger of repeating myself, I am going to mention the great story. I think these nightshots are really nice and dramatic, but agree that a bit more light would be nice. What is your photography setup? I think I might build my own boatshed at some point. -
[OL-FB3] The Man from the King's Court-Part 4
Bregir replied to Franco Clarke's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As I have said before, I really enjoy your stories. The way the tide of battle moves back and forth, and the considerations of the captain, etc. Keep up the good work - this was a very interesting storyline! I like the use of landscape for the first shot and the Caecilian is looking good. (Although the masts do suffer from the knock down. Perhaps they could be straightened up? ) Both hull and rigging is looking nice. I would suggest adding some trucks (wheels) to the gun, though, so it can absorp the recoil. -
I am always looking forward to your ships in great anticipation, LS, and this one did not dissappoint. (Not that they ever do... :P ) I believe this the first barque of BoBS, but might be wrong - in any case, it is a very nice example. The hull has some very nice curves - However, it curves rather low in the middle, and then flattens out near the stern and bow - I am yet undecided whether I like it or not, but in any case, it gives it a lot of character. The tumblehome is beautifully executed, but I would like to know how you have fastened the sides to give them structural strenght. That is something I am struggling with myself. The curved sterngallery is very pretty too, and you have avoided the worst gaps. Well done! The brickbuilt boat on the stern davids is a nice touch, as is fishing for sharks. I would question the ability of the fishing pole and the single man to lift that shark, though! :) The rgging is beautifully done, and you have managed to get that tautness I have commented on so many times :D Very well done! Will the masts stand on their own, or do the current rigging more or less keep them up? As before, I like how your masts are parted in three as a true shipmast. (A two part mast would, in danish at least, be a schooner mast) I do agree with Garmadon that it appears to be sailing near the wind, while the flags suggests that it is sailing with the wind right aft. ;) As to your sails, I have a suggestion. While I am an advocate of the merits of paper sails myself, they have a tendency to look very flat and stiff, which is somewhat the case here. If you cut them out with curves, you can make them look like they are stretched by the wind and the sheets. (At least I think it worked out well on my Athena :) ) Overall great job, LS, and lots of great details. I really like how alive it is, with the crew and all that is going on. A few more crewmen aloft would be a nie touch, though. Keep it up!

Great looking factory, Capt Wolf. As always, I really enjoy how you depict the full process - it shows how well researched your builds are (even for a minor forgetfulness ;) ). The different basins, the water supply and the wagon are great details, The landscaping finishes it off nicely, and the buildings are perfect. All in all, great build!

Great looking little fortification - it really has that frontier look so fitting for the new world. (My only concern is the limited arc of fire for the gun.) The troops are looking real nice too, but the highlight is definitely the landscaping. Will be looking forward to following this project further!

[ESL - FB] Upholding order on Nellisa
Bregir replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
And so the Fontonajo family solidifies its position of power over the colonies with something that has a slight aftertaste of a military coup! One wonders what a king already under pressure by the trade companies will think of such actions. But perhaps he is looking for powerful allies in the power struggles of Eslandola? Great story and very nice rendition of an existing build. The troops are looking fantastic, and I will be looking forward to seeing how this develops!- 7 replies

[COR - FB] Preservation of Food, Sm Artisan
Bregir replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I love the multistory approach, and the cellar is particularly cool. (And yes, obviously preservation would be invented in Corrington - couldn't agree more!) The preserved foods will be a great advantage to our brave sailors. Apart from the underground cellar, my favourite part of this build is the interior details. (And I have got to agree with Elostirion - you have had a very steep learning curve! Keep up the good work! -
Booby traps! What is an honest(-ish) pirate to do nowadays, when facing such devious opponents?! As always, your brickbuilt backgrounds are great, and both the intact and the burning micro is very good. (Although I would suggest cropping the photos for all lego shots.) Great looking quarterdeck too, and thanks for showing us the full ship!

Great looking lighthouse, Puvel - As new commanders and captains lead in their crews, they will thank you for ensuring they are safe! I like the square set-up, and the different levels, and I am surprised those colours work so well together. For some reason, the construction makes me think of a miniversion of the Lighthouse at Pharos! In short, you have created a small wonder!
-
I like these cut away builds and this one is no exception. Plenty nice details and I too really like the staircase. However, as always one wonders what you scheming Eslanderiandors are up to! ;)

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
'tis quiet in here these days... Are the clever Corlanders planning something devious in the skunkworks? Personally, I am working on a schooner that will soon set sail upon the brick seas, probably as a 5F.- 897 replies

Shipping could be lucrative business for those who escape the Kraken and brought their goods to market. Jonas Bordington, second son of a Corlander merchant and now captain of the Sphinx after al'Sayeed had been tasked with managing the Montoya Estate and its related businesses, had completed several such runs. With his share of the profits, he and his wife had built a house on the new settlement Elizabethville on the lush green island Lacryma, where his wife would have every chance to enjoy her hobby of horseback riding on the vast grassy plains. It wasn't a flashy house, but very comfortable and roomy for the little family. In fact so roomy that the missus were already talking about adding to the family. _____ Another freebuild, this time a small residence. C&C welcome.
