  1. Impressive fortress, it definitely looks like it can withstand some destructive ice magic! I like the roofs and the crenelations a lot, but the walls are maybe a bit too polished? And why are there half-plate gaps between the pillars and the wall..?
  2. Very impressive build! Great overall appearance and lovely attention to detail I especially love that tower by the harbor. As I already wrote on Flickr, I'm also very impressed that you managed to bring such a large build all the way "over there" (and it looks like you also had some part in the EB collab build). How did you pack it when going there...?? (How you packed it on the return trip is maybe not something I need to know )
  3. Nice tree and snowscaping! I like the lookout fig a lot too
  4. I think this is a great project not least for newer players (and returners), and especially if it is made to be easily updated and even better transferred to someone else if you get tired of it Any discrepancies between this map and the original map (and developments during Book II) can of course be attributed to the level of mapmaking technology in Historica. I mean, look at real medieval maps
  5. Looks like the one from the CMF cave woman 973pb0933c01
  6. Nice detailing, and I like how well the snow follows that angled wall UoP +1
  7. Second that! +1
  8. Sure, 640 is not a lot by modern standards but there is no reason to not go as low as possible especially with an older camera like this (my old DSLR from 2008 was horrible already at ISO 800). Another issue as you point out might however be that stray light is causing a haze, particularly visible in the center? Good point regarding the image quality depending on the focal length. My point was however that the perspective looks better when zoomed in (at least to 40-50 mm on an APS-C), and for that not even a ultra-high quality wide-angle prime lens would have helped... But when talking about quality vs focal length, this particular lens actually seems sharpest at the shorter focal lengths, but most importantly loses a lot of sharpness above f/11. Perceptual Mpix ("sharpness") vs focal length and aperture, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS on Canon EOS 500D Source: http://www.dxomark.c...asurements__586 Another reason to stay away from the shortest focal lengths on this lens is that it has issues with chromatic aberration at the short end, which I also think I notice in the picture particularly around sharp edges in contrast Maximum lateral chromatic aberration vs focal length and aperture, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS on Canon EOS 500D Source: http://www.dxomark.c...asurements__586 So all things considered I would recommend staying below f/11 and above 40 mm (for good perspective). If the camera is on a tripod or similar go for ISO 100 and let the shutter speed be determined by when the photo gets correctly exposed. Sorry dG for almost hijacking your thread! But I hope you are seeing that we are trying to help you improve the use of your camera Thanks!
  9. Great to see another Kaliphlin build from you! There are a bunch of great details here I definitely will look at fore my next Barqa build I especially like the ornate windows of the middle building and the minaret Is that a reddish brown turban 18822 I'm seeing on that guy with the camel btw...? Where did you find that? Some photo feedback is that I think your closeup photos of this build look better than the overview, so I have some suggestions for improvements for that: - Take a few steps back and zoom in instead of taking the overview picture at such a wide angle. Then the front would be less "magnified" and the buildings etc in the back less "shrunk". - Lower the ISO to get rid of the noise, and compensate with a slower shutter speed. You could also probably open up the aperture a bit (lower f-number), since you probably lose a bit of sharpness due to diffraction at f/18, as long as you still keep the depth of field long enough to keep both the front and back of the build sharp. Somewhere around f/9-f/11 should probably be small enough.
  10. This is an unusually creative design, thanks for sharing some of the "behind the scenes" with us UoP +1
  11. Fantastic rural Kaliphlin scene, I love how much details you've managed to fit in there! Particular favorites are the entrance, the roof terrace and the nougat building. I also like the human story you are telling with that poor sailor My only nitpick is that I'm not too fond of the background color, and it looks like you have shot the build against a brighter background since there are traces of it still visible as a "halo" in places. My advice for background removal is usually to shoot the build in front of a background as close in color and brightness as the final edited background will be.
  12. Nice landscaping, I like the feeling of the last melting snows UoP +1 for both the landscape and tree techniques. Do you have all the creature credits already? Otherwise you could surely claim one for this deer
  13. Nice build overall, the best part in my opinion is the surroundings. The pig pen looks good with that fence and the tiled surface works surprisingly well I would think however that mixing some small plates into the tiles would have looked even more realistic as the pigs probably have pushed some mounds up here and there.
  14. Very nice building with a clear touch of official TLG design, it looks a bit like one of those "make an improved and more detailed version of an official set" you see now and then The SNOTed walls/windows are my favorite detail here. One thing I don't like however is the yellow background, it is casting a yellowish tint on the bricks and generally feels a bit odd. I prefer when builds with muted colors are shot against a neutral white/gray/black background.
  15. Lovely build overall, not too fancy but simply very realistic Well done!
  16. I've seen some pictures from Brickworld and GoH seems to have been very well represented! Will you share some more pictures with us?
  17. Lovely landscaping and great interpretation of the category! Swedish soldiers are still taught how to build snow shelters
  18. Lovely build, great to have you back! Another nice dwelling protruding from the rocks here, those really add to the composition of your dioramas What are those moose antlers btw...?
  19. Welcome back! And what a way to make the return! My favorite detail in this is how the dwellings are integrated into the cliff, and that goat is also a very nice touch!
  20. Nice scene, I like how Breshaun is growing and the style you are developing! The angled building looks very good
  21. Very funny interpretation of the challenge The stream of water inside the cave is in its simplicity a very nice design.
  22. Great to see you build for GoH again! That tree definitely fits as a rare Kaliphlin tree
  23. Very nice brick fortress! I can imagine that many of these forts have been constructed from the abundant clay in the Arkbri floodplains?
  24. Great scene with very nice color use! I think the presentation is top notch as well
