Effe's MOC Corner
1gor replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Drive axle goes below it, so I have lowered drive axle and steering axle is two studs above drive axle to enable usage of just 2 gears on steering. This solution has acceptable amount of play. As minimalist I would suggest simplest version without aero adds like your M.A.N. hooklift truck -
That could cause complications, more gears you have more resistance and more torque needed to overcome this problem. Ideja with 2 white churched 24 tooth gears sounds reasonable but I had a situation due to to much gears power did not transfer after white clutch gear...so I decided to use gear reductions 8 to 24 and 20 to differentials and make it as simple as possible. Of course it is just friendly advice.

I had similar idea to make something like that after this year's Dakkar rally, but all of them have all wheel drive Your version is very cute

I have significant play with 4 gears...so I'll have to think about something else but have only 4 studs height including ball joints from Unimog -

Did you ever try to power gear rack through 4 gears or is it nonsense even to try? -

How many gears can you use between motor and gear rack not to have slack and to make pf servo return gear rack to zero position? -

@suffocation i can only say that what happened in Lombardy is worse than horror reading every day how Covid-19 pandemic situation escalates; we have quarantine measures and the only good thing that we suffered aggression in first half on 1990s is that we learned (mostly) to obey in difficult situations; so we have no exponential infection growth. Since I have to work from home and my wife's place is 20km away of Earthquake epicenter I did not have much time for LEGO. Health is in the first place, so every change you made on your crane is welcomed change from every day shock. -

Very cool Moc -
IMHO right side (with wrong color) has more appropriate shape. Nice to see you are back on track; I had plans to work on my projects, but that Covid-19 histery caused that I have to work from home which needs more time than classic way of teaching (so less time for LEGO)

Honestly that is excellent question... I was thinking about standard features like steering, engine, suspension, stabilizers, two stage boom...but motorized (when I find enough money to buy needed PF elements...) -

@suffocation thank you for all kindness, I really hope that that Covid-19 situation ends in Italy asap. Furry friend that is recovering is this one on my account photo and new furry friend image I can eMail you today (if my brother Alzheimer does not pay a visit ). I really like cranes that you build and even most of that I like the way you present your self as someone who is able to make imperfect design and accept every comment - that shows a real personality. I wish I could find some time to work on my project, since I have new motivation thanks to @jorgeopesi's minimalist approach, and you could end up a guilty one if I find a time in future to make one 4 axle crane based on Unimog tires (in 1:15 scale as my other MOCs) which is crossing my mind for longer period of time... Kind regards my friend -

My Bella had closed type of pyometra and surgery on 22nd February, but now she is OK, still we have to make complete systematic test on her in about 2 months, to see if something else is wrong. About Covid-19, I have my own "idea" not theory; it started (interestingly) in Wuhan where is largest airport for goods transportation in China and hot-spot in Europe is in Italy; just two hints Marco Polo and Silk Road... about the rest you're completely right - it is kind of biological weapon, but no one care that every day 20.000 people die of hunger. My point is that there are to much horrible things happening that you can not ignore since media is making hysteria of everything. For my wife and me as Roman Catholics we believe that every life is precious and pets are also regular part of family. Thank you for your kind words Thorsten @suffocation I hope that we did not "pollute" your topic. -

Agree with @LEGO Train 12 Volts complete; cranes are not designed to win beauty contest, but are big bad and "ugly". I wish I had some time to build something in last 2 months Do not worry about kitty, I have 2 new and my terrier is recovering from nasty surgery so it is the most important that kitty is fine I wish you have no trouble with covid-19 or how is it called.
