A situation arose when, in the middle of an intensely productive building frenzy, that I discovered that I had none of these pieces in my inventory I did, however, have a bunch of these Therefore I took a Dremel with sanding disk and modded four of these to fit. It took less than 30 seconds to get four hacked pieces. So, my question is Would you modify a piece to make a MOC work?

/Takes very deep breath/ I didn't have any So I took a Dremel with sanding disk and modded four of these to fit /Exhale/ Don't judge me. I'm an AFOL with a powertool.

You're right Bamos! I've given it some curves and changed the grille design, added an extra plate to the height and made it 7-wide - hopefully that's an improvement. Thanks EvMan. There really wasn't too many additional pieces required (before I converted it to 7-wide). I went with what I could easily grab from the inventory - a couple of plates, some additional 1x2 green bricks, inverted red slopes, wheels and axles, grey tiles. The jumper plates, and black tiles for the 7-wide and the Light Grey tiles for the roof design was the bulk of them. If I had to guess then the new piece count was probably less than 60.

I would ask. Last time at the local Lego Store I was offered a couple of Modulars, the Creator City building and a VW Camper all with damaged boxes. There was no cash discount, but they did offer additional 500 VIP Points instead - so I took home the VW. Sweet!

Modifying the Spiderman Doc Ock Truck for City use I can't resist a bargain and in my local supermarket they had the Lego 76015 Doc Ock Truck Heist marked down by 33%. I thought at the very least I could use it as a parts pack. It's a straightforward enough build and has plenty of playability - exploding roofs, catapulted swinging spiderman and a dextrous Doc Ock, but good grief there was no way it was going to fit into my City! The wheels are massive! The rear wheel positioning is bizarre and the whole thing looks obviously like it came from a comic book (I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised by that ) So, I dumped the comically large wheels, reduced the wheel span by three studs by moving the rear wheels away from the very back of the truck and reduced the overall length by two. I reworked the front end to give it a more modern feel and tweaked the color scheme. I lost the exploding roof function and cleaned up the roof line. Here's a comparison of the original wheel base and those clownish wheels to this new version One final shot So, what's the point of this post? I suppose it's seek out bargains and modify them to suit your needs. I know I'll be looking for other vehicles to mod - after I've turned this one into a 7-wide one. Edit: I reworked the front end to make it less blocky, turned the back shell of the truck into 7-wide by using jumper plates. I also increased the overall height by 1 plate and cleaned up the roof line.

Good review! As for the house - I had seen it on the shelves of my local big box store, but had always passed it by. You've shown the details and now I'm tempted. Thanks for doing the review.

Good point! I had managed to score a bucketload of Lime green bricks for about $0.03 per brick so I was determined to use them. In hindsight I used too many of them You don't like Tofu? Inconceivable! Thanks for all the comments. I certainly had fun building it.

Noodle Shop and Downtown Museum As my Oriental district expands in my city I decided I need to build a Noodle Shop, but a 32-wide version seemed to be too large and what I really wanted was a narrow hole-in-the-wall kind of place that looked like it had been there forever so to fill in the rest of the baseplate I added a Downtown Museum. Here's a shot of the facade. And a close up of the sign - complete with two chop sticks and a scrumptious piece of Tofu (Yummy!) There are wall mounted cooking utensils and pots, a single stove, sink, fridge and food containers together with standing tables along both walls. In the Museum there is an eclectic mix of artifacts from a number of eras and Lego themes. And one of the display cabinet contains an "Evolution of the Hand" exhibit One final interior shot Thanks for reading! Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome!

Architectural Salvage Company I had been looking at the Town Hall and decided to rework it into something more useful and appropriate for my town. So I imagined that it been demolished mysteriously overnight and the former Mayor had launched an Architectural Salvage Company that was old selling bits and pieces from the old building. I only used parts from the original set (with the exception of a handful of 2 x 2 Dark Grey Tiles and the Roof elements) and although the Town Hall was a parts rich set it's quite limited for pieces to do an interesting facade. There's not enough jumper plates to inset the windows so I ended up using the 1 x 6 rail plates as window footings. And there were insufficient 2 x 3 Windows to complete the facade so I built a window mounted AC unit to hide the missing piece. I changed the SNOT Date to read 1931 which I thought was more appropriate to this design. Here's a shot of the rear Inside the former Mayor is being interviewed by the local press and is being asked why so much of the original facade and interior detailing of the Town Hall is now being sold for salvage. He claims he has receipts for everything. Upstairs we have a fine collection of windows and doors Despite the large size and the high piece count of the original Town Hall it was actually quite difficult coming up with an interesting alternate design. Thanks for reading. Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome!

MOCs: My entry in the Wasteland Stories pt. 1, 2, 3 and 4
eurotrash replied to monsinjor's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I love all of it Monsinjor, but especially the ruined Diner! Excellent! -
I really like the approach you've used for the front wall and the detailing at the top (ingenious), but I think my favorite part is the use of the discolored older 2x2 tiles on the roof - that looks perfect! Thanks for sharing it with us!

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the Unimog Snowplough and there's plenty of other stuff that's interesting in next years releases.

Thanks for all the comments! The Truck was a MOD of a MOC I built earlier for pulling my airstream (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=96636) I just distressed it further and added the stairs to suit the Travel Agency.

That's a good build. The girders are sturdy and the whole thing looks like its bustling with activity. I can't wait to see your decaying next build.

That's a good looking facade with a color scheme that looks so appropriate and I really like the detailing you've got at the roof line. It's good to see the missing seagull from the Parisian Restaurant finally turning up on your lamppost, but Quiksilver? - I was more of a Mambo Loud shirt fan myself... Thanks for sharing it with us and I can't wait to see what you build next.
