  1. Oh. Well... That'd still stick out? :v Nevermind.
  2. Jaller Mahri.
  3. There's only the one kind of bone in orange in Fire Lord, and it's that really long one with the hingeball - a bone that isn't used in Cody at all.
  4. Thank you! I certainly have my critics who don't appreciate my use of 3rd party parts (and object to me referring to them as such), but in the end it's all about the aesthetic for me.
  5. Those large bone spikes are gunmetal, not silver. Apologies for the confusion, I am new to this lightbox thing.
  6. Ah, the humble gear mechanism. From as early as 1999, a gearbox has been something which has defined a Lego action figure, and arguably made it whole. Although they had an extensive hiatus, gearboxes have returned to constraction in a big way. Many MOCists are taking inspiration from the reboot of Bionicle, and are mechanising their custom creations. Some, however, aren't just using the gearboxes the Danish gods provided them with. Custom gearboxes have hit the scene, allowing for more unique functionality and animation. Ingenious methods of motion are being integrated into models which would otherwise stand static. This thread is for you to share your own custom gearboxes, or work together with other users to develop new ideas. I'll start off by sharing a few of my designs. LW2 - Designed for stability on larger figures. LW1 (not its official name) is a gearbox coined by ToaLeewan, and is the core design the LW2 adapts upon. I have used this on several models, the first being G2 Umbra. SL1 - Designed to mimic the functionality of the Slizers. Rather superfluous, but still a fun experiment. K1 - Designed for back and forth shoulder motion, which realigns via an elastic band. I've only used this on Kaikohuru. MG1 - For use on smaller figures that use the 'XT4' frame.
  7. I was referring to the torso bone. I can't swap that thing's colour.
  8. Go ahead! That's the reason why I share skeleton photos :) I'd appreciate credit though, if you do.
  9. That was not the intention, actually - this was built months before the leaks were even... Well, leaked.
  10. Yes, I too would've much preferred if 2016 Lewa's lower legs were done like this, and will likely change them to be that way if/when I get him. While the custom construction is unique, Lewa ends up with some seriously knobbly knees thanks to those Y-joints - much like Dennis the Menace here. No offence meant to any British comic book characters. That said though, I can understand why my design isn't being used. Not only is it a rather delicate method for attaching a part of its size, it's also technically an illegal connection - the little axle on the Vorox armour isn't really supposed to sit inside the slot on that bone. The design used on 2016 Lewa, while aesthetically questionable, is a much more logical choice for an action figure which is gonna get bashed about a lot.
  11. >yet another "is not real lego" post >implying lego star wars isn't a cash cow anyway Anyway, I got hold of Commander Cody on Saturday on a whim. Wasn't planning on buying him, but now I don't really know why I was holding off. He's pretty great, and includes some superb pieces, including a couple of unusual Technic pieces used in his gun. The back armour is neat, but the gappiness around it is really offputting - the white torso armour's contrast against the black torso beam does not help that at all. Oh, and to finally get 4M shells in white from LEGO themselves is very nice indeed. Also, don't know if anybody else noticed, but his head is rather heavy in comparison to other head pieces of this kind.
  12. SEA SIREN A viciously territorial creature from the water region of Okoto. The Sea Siren uses its beautiful singing voice to lure in its prey. Front - Pose Back - Pose Sea Siren uses a tail-flapping mechanism devised by ToaLeewan. Demonstration video here.
  13. TOA TAHAE Once a lowly thief, Tahae was transformed into a mighty Toa by a mysterious relic she had stolen. She uses her new-found power to control and intimidate. Front Back Pose Weaponry Toa Tahae utilises ToaLeewan's LW1 gearbox design, and uses pieces from the XSZ Iron Patriot figure.
  14. SHOGUN TAHU An anime-inspired re-imagining of prolific Toa, Tahu. Front Back Skeleton - Front Skeleton - Back Shogun Tahu utilises the LW2 gearbox.
  15. SKULL SORCERER A resurrected magician from a bygone age, filled with nothing but ill intentions. Pose Front Back Back details Skull Sorcerer uses trans. purple snowflake pieces from 41062 Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle, and a trans. purple chain from 41075 The Elves' Treetop Hideaway. The trans. purple glittered cone pieces are in various Friends, Elves and Disney Princesses sets.
  16. I hope they don't go all the way though. That'd be awfully disappointing.
  17. It's funny how relevant this is now, huh? :P
  18. This discussion couldn't be any more relevant to what I wanted to talk about. I’ve figured out what’s bothering me with Tahu - He’s too textured. With the 2015 sets, each character had one unique texture alongside the sleek CCBS shells - the Toa had the piston addon, and the Skull Creatures had their cracked armour addons. Each figure had their own, cohesive look going on. This rule even applied to a lot of Hero Factory or Chima figures - Heck, even the Barraki, arguably. Contrast this against, say, Ackar. Ackar mixes the bevelled shaping of his Inika legs and Torso, the flatter more organic shaping of the Mahritoran blades on his shoulders, and then the blocky shaping of the Vahki limbs in his lower arms. He ends up looking like multiple things bashed together, because… Well, he is. 2016 Tahu is like Ackar. He has 4 unique textures alongside the CCBS shells - the new Technic-y armour piece and firey addon, and then the piston addon and the cracked Skull Creature addons. That’s 5 different kinds of texture on one figure, not counting the new torso and weapons. Put him next to 2016 Lewa, who is mostly textured with Vorox armour and CCBS shells, and you can see what I mean. He just doesn’t look cohesive. I don’t want to take this as an omen that LEGO are regressing design-wise with Bionicle (they likely aren’t), but Tahu is the leading ‘bot, so…
  19. I think it'd be interesting to see the Bionicle head piece with different faces. Same dimensions and connections, but different faces. Say, a characteristic face for Toa, and then different faces for other races.
  20. No, but they certainly made Bionicle G2 sets unique and more interesting to build, and... well, quintessentially Bionicle. It's not definite that they're not there though, it's just that the guys who've seen the images couldn't make out gearboxes on the models (as above), much like we kinda couldn't when we all first saw the 2015 Toa. That, or there's some new form of function on the figures. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to have this big focus on functionality with newly developed pieces and building techniques one year, and then throw all of that out the window the next. If these new figures do indeed have no functions, I for one will be supremely disappointed.
  21. Oh gosh, really exciting stuff! Not happy about the prospect of the Star Wars torso shell being used though, nor the thought that there's no gearboxes. I'm hoping those are misinterpretations. But, beartrap monsters? The Mask of Control? Antlers on Umarak? I'M SOLD.
  22. I got two copies of each of the individual skellies for parts, and will likely get a second copy of MMvSG if/when that Villain Pack is made available.
  23. *Nexo Knights But damn! Exciting stuff!
  24. Speaking of Ekimu, and for fear of repeating what has already been stated... Those of you who are quite observant may have noticed something a bit off about Ekimu's in-game model in BIONICLE: Mask of Creation. For those who haven't, take a look at his shoulders and arms. Ekimu has the same build as Narmoto, the Protector of Fire! The model uses 5M hinge bones and a 5M shell in trans light blue, which are versions of those parts which we do not have IRL. But, we can still build a close approximation - which I have done! EDIT: The updated game also features a full map of the City of the Mask Makers!
