Best and worst Masks and helmets?
Logan McOwen replied to Lord-Vorahk's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Y'know, I've never been able to decide on what the best mask is. I certainly have my favourites though - The Hau, the Miru, the Avohkii, the Noble Ruru, the noble Huna and the Mask of Fire. The worst for me are definitely the Kanohi Nuva. Barely resembling their previous forms, with a tar-like consistency that clashes completely with the G1 aesthetic. Explain their goopy appearance away all you like, but it won't explain why the Nuva armour and weapons still had some solid substance. The Kanohi Nuva are just ugly. As for Hero Factory, I can't really find fault with any of the helmets/heads... Except maybe XT4's head. It's very tricky to use due to its odd proportions. It still looks good though. -
Who wouldn't want long arms? You can reach the top shelf at the supermarket!

Not necessarily whacking, but one could certainly aim the bow using the function.

I think if we had two sizes of the new bones, we could've had taller skellies. I'm thinking a 7M version alongside the standard, 5M size.

And he's worked in drag, apparently. Interesting.

Mata nui was a pivotal character in G1 Bionicle's lore, often portrayed in a light similar to that of a deity. In 2008 however, the mystery of just what Mata Nui truly was was laid to rest, with the reveal of the GSR. But not long after this reveal, the spirit of the machine was ejected into the depths of space, trapped inside the powerful Kanohi Ignika. It crash landed on the barren wasteland of Bara Magna, and constructed a body for its host - Mata Nui himself. We finally had a face to the Great Spirit. But before 2009, how did you envision Mata Nui? What did you thing he looked like? Did you think we'd ever find out? Were you disappointed when you discovered the truth?

They look to me like symbols representative of the creature's masks/heads.

Some titbits from Ep18.

Graphic Novel NICE. Very happy that the art style isn't too dissimilar to the aesthetic of the toys, as that was one thing I was really afraid of happening. Episode 18

I just can't get over how natural it all looks. It's not even that jarring having the metallic, robotic aesthetic of Lewa in the frame. It all coheres really nicely. Also, Okoto has quite the graffiti problem, doesn't it?

I don't think Onua is meditating. It looks more like he's doing a cannonball into the water. Speaking of water, that's likely where our lady in blue is :P

Y'know, I don't even own either of those parts. But now, I really do. They might be just the ticket! EDIT: I dub thee, the TW1! As I don't own any of those fancy bracket pieces, this is yet to be tested, so build and utilise it at your own discretion. More pictures on Tumblr.

I am very okay with this.

Tinseltown would do great with G2, as long as they got themselves a decent writer onboard. I'd much prefer that over something overly stylised like the Miramax films... [shudders]

Alright, ordered myself a Villain Pack on eBay for about £7, should be here towards the end of the month - possibly even on my birthday.

I had a bash at it, but it's awfully inelegant. I've built it IRL, and it's very top heavy. Also, I can't see any way one would add friction to it. I might try and refine it, but it's honestly very different to construct something like this with decent proportions. Parts list for anyone who wants it.

Well, that's good to hear then. I might try a more legal version of this build when I have access to parts. Have you any indication of who came up with it?

This was my issue with 2015. Because there was so many gorgeous new things, I bought a lot of stuff... And now I'm left with a superfluous amount No no, this is still exciting stuff. Some have said that it might just be the 2015 animations collected into one film, which would be awfully disappointing. If not though... Well...

No, that's not one of mine. Aside from the brutal, non-purist nature of constructing it (which I don't vilify), my main concern with it is sturdiness. Due to Technic's tendency to flex, a common problem with custom gearboxes is that the sides can sag outwards due to the weight of the arms pulling down on the shoulder axles. This isn't much of an issue with knobbed gears, but with standard toothed gears like in this design you've shown me, sagging can cause the gears to pull apart and skip over each-other when in motion. This is why my MG1 gearbox has that bar across the top - it keeps the structure tightly enclosed, and the gears meshed. It's still a very good design however, if a bit unorthodox.

I noticed the leaker's nice dotted tie in two of the catalogue leak photos - he must work for one classy toy outlet. Here's one similar on Amazon. I totally didn't buy it purely because of Bionicle, I swear.

For some reason, eBay is refusing my PayPal payments today, so I'll have to sort that out before trying to order anything :I

I'm likely not going to buy all of these, honestly. 2015 offered so many new things, that buying the entirety of both lines was, for me, justifiable. With 2016 however, the new parts don't nearly appeal to me as much. I'm more excited to see recolours of the Vorox armour than anything else. Also, learning from 2015, I've found that buying the entirety of a wave just for new pieces can prove to be problematic - I doubt that I'll ever use all 14 of the Skull Creature addons I own, and I most certainly don't need two collections of the drained Golden Masks. I don't want to make the same mistake again. All this said however, I'm definitely very interested to see what this apparent new mechanism is, so I'll likely pick up at least one of the larger figures. Lewa, Kopaka and Melum and Umarak are currently on my shopping list, and Onua and Terak are also of consideration. The rest, however, don't really appeal to me at all.

So it's not a question of when we'll get it, but if? That's kinda ridiculous. And to think, I was gonna order a second copy of MMvSG from Lego in order to obtain it. But now, I guess my money will be going towards some eBay seller instead.
