Or any of Veyronian's MOCs for that matter!

True. In other news, those system parts on the back of the lower legs work like a charm. I'm gonna try that out on a tan-coloured MOC I'm working one... Could look very good. -

I honestly don't think it really matters what a model looks like under the cape, because the back is almost always going to be concealed... Well, by the cape. -

Well... it can be hard to integrate a gearbox aesthetically, and while I don't think it's to, necessary to do so (at least from the back), it can be done. And it's worth it, because you can make your MOCs move! -

That helmet's probably only a prototype - I mean, look at the texture of the gun piece, it's clearly 3D printed. -

I will agree that functionality has really made CCBS-based sets shine - this reflects through my MOCs, as I rarely now build figures without a gearbox of some variety! While figures without functions aren't inherently bad, I do personally think the addition of functionality makes them much more interesting. -

If there was a different connector instead of a balljoint in the middle of the bone, then bones or parts with sockets couldn't be clipped onto bones at that point, which would take a lot of versatility away - you'd only be able to make long strings of bones, as opposed to fanning out for, say, a torso design (See: Stormer XL). Also, the shells for these bones wouldn't connect to balljoints, which would be a loss of a lot of different design possibilities (See: Gali, Tahu and Kopaka's shoulder pads). TL;DR: You can do more with balljoints than you could with clips. -

So you think it'd be better if the bones were less versatile, and much much less backwards compatible? -

Great example of what I'm saying, thanks. It's clear that a lot of skill went into building this, but there are still so many contrasting textures all over this thing. Honestly, the most cohesive parts of the model design-wise are the spine, tail, and the inside of the neck. Everything else is really cluttered - it's difficult to even make out what shape some parts of the model are. Big and complicated does not necessarily equate to good looking. -
Well I for one am looking at it for what it physically is, not what it is sentimentally.

Yeah, the larger you get with the G1 system, the less cohesive things become. I mean, just look at any of those MOCs built purely for scale - so many clashing textures. With CCBS however, everything's a lot more cohesive. -
REVIEW: 70795 Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder
Logan McOwen replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Superb set. No questions asked. -
Skull Scorpio is one of those Lego sets that looks fantastic up until a certain point in the building process. The main body looks fantastic, but the butt machine is way too aesthetically different. It feels like two completely different models stuck together, which is bad. The leg poseability - or moreso, lack of it - is also a huge issue. There's not even hinges done with Technic pins, they're just stuck there. The arms however have a decent range of motion, although they can't exactly do much. The addition of four of the skeletal bones, two of the larger new weapons, and a unique colour of torso shell however, make purchasing him a little more worthwhile. The blended MoS is pretty weird. The colour's nice and all, but the way the gold plastic is all... Milky on this mask is disgusting. I'll struggle to use this in MOCs, that's for sure.

I do love the gearbox on Slicer. Very innovative. Otherwise, he's not too interesting in comparison to the rest, but is still pretty damn cool. The apple green is a nice treat.

I can't find fault in this set at all. Bloody gorgeous design.
-
Love this fella. Like you say, he's armed to the teeth. He feels like a very archetypal Skull Creature design, which I like about him. The blended MoI is probably the nicest of the bunch, closely contending with the blended MoE.

Exactly my mindset. It's pretty, but 100x too expensive for what it is.

Never was keen on the Inika, if I'm honest.

I don't know if I want a Scorpio mask, let alone a clear MoF. They're very nice, but I don't feel justified in paying ~£30 for one piece I'll likely never use.

You've said nothing nobody else hasn't said before. If you want old parts, buy the old sets. -
I may have just ordered Maxilos and Spinax off of eBay...

Y'know, I certainly did go for a regal look, but I never really intended for an Egyptian aesthetic to unfold in him. Really fascinating that you see that!
