I also agree that the sides could use some of the beauty the facade has, but that being said, you continue to nail the Middle-Eastern style in your builds. Great job! +1 to the UoP claims

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Kayne replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
yikes! Here's to a speedy recovery to you Gideon. No curse for me, just busy, so I have literally done nothing Lego related since the challenge -
Extremely deserving of those awards! This is just a beauty, I agree qith Gideon about the roof being the show stealer, and the colors to this build are fantastic.

Thanks ME! Thank you! I know, I think there is a ton of different directions this plague/invasion could go and I am ready for the story to move forward! Thanks Gunman! Well, I'm not sure I'd say perfect but I really appreciate the compliment Thank you, I had gambled that it would work, and I'm glad it did. Thank you guys!

Hand Book II: Summit at Lagash Ur Part II
Kayne replied to MassEditor's topic in Guilds of Historica
So, once again I read the whole story and didn't even look at the pics! I had to go back just to admire the beautiful build. Another outstanding build and addition to the storyline. Keep it up please....all 3 of you! -
So, here is a tutorial that helped me a lot with photography. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=73917 That being said, here are simple ways to improve photgraphy. If you go to a Home Depot(or whatever you have around). You can get clamp lights http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-150-Watt-Incandescent-Clamp-Light-HD-300PDQ/205031467 that you can put daylight bulbs into. A daylight bulb is just the color spectrum that it represents. These are typically in a bluish package. You will find them in Flourescent or LED varieties. I bought a 4 pack of Daylight 100 watt CFL bulbs http://www.homedepot.com/p/EcoSmart-23-Watt-100W-Daylight-CFL-Light-Bulb-4-Pack-E-ES5M8234RS50K/202913023 to go in the Clamp lights. I use 3 Clamp lights for my setup. I have one above shining down(about 3 feet away), and one from the front right and one from the front left(also both about 3 feet away). These give plenty of light to the creation. I have also used a white sheet in front of the bulbs at times if I have a glare problem off of the bricks. Then, I use these corrugated plastic sheets for the background http://www.homedepot.com/p/Plaskolite-18-in-x-24-in-Corrugated-Plastic-Sheet-1TW1824A/202043334 I totally copied Hinkley from his tutorial in how I put it together. It is just 3 of them to form the bottom corner of a cube. If I have a smaller build I put the sheet right over the top of the 'cube' and move the lights in closer. Then, to finish it all off I use Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 2 (CS2) which is freeware to edit the photography. So, finally here is the link to the photoshop tutorial http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39134 Hope this helps!

At the other site, it is optional. You do not have to sign up for the brawling challenges unless you want. Basically if you sign up to be a part, you are agreeing that you are willing to be challenged by anyone eligible to challenge you based upon the rules.
-
Since we are talking about other websites, I will throw in what is done in LOR on Merlin's beard forum. There is a rival challenge which is very similar to the moc-offs. Each person that is interested signs up and everyone starts out as a novice. When you win 3 of the challenges you move up to the next category (brawler, I think?). Anyway, if you've lost 3 you drop a rank. You can challenge anyone above you, but cannot challenge someone below you. This way they don't have people that have years of experience just 'battling' newer builders so they can accumulate points, but instead the newer builders can challenge where they are comfortable to gain skill.

I agree with Carson, I think the new water and embankment look much better.

Wow, definitely some very good advice flowing around in here. As to your bricklinking, you mentioned trans blue tiles being expensive. I would say the trans dark blue are very expensive on BL now as opposed to about 3 years ago. But, the trans light blue is actually quite reasonable at most stores. If you're shipping in just the US, you can get about 500-1000 for less than $4.00 shipping, plus about $20 for the product

So about the lights, not sure how much of a purist you are, but there is a product called lifelites, available at lifelites.com that are designed just to light up Lego. I have just the starter set, but I love them. They are LED, and I've had the same battery in for a year now.

Just amazing...I absolutely love this! Please build an army of them

SImon, way to pull out a major current event and tie it into GoH so quickly with a great build as well

Kayne, Kaliphlin voting for Nocturnus! This was such a cool little contest, I wish I would have had time to participate

Just stunning work here! What the 3 of you are now putting together, are just an amazing collection of builds and will shake GoH to its core

Looks great sk! I love the use of the darker colors for the landscape withe light bley of the stone, it creates great contrast to add to the beauty of the build itself- 28 replies

Excellent write-up Kai, thank you for taking the lead on this story! Your idea was fleshed out brilliantly by a group of builders I had a blast working with. I hope we can do more of these types of projects as it was probably the most fun I've had in GoH ever! (Other than Inside Kaliphlin )

Ch II: Team Simon: Cat B: The Cunning of the Drow
Kayne replied to Simon_S's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well, I'm not sure how I missed this the first time around, I guess the number of entries over the course of 2 days must have just put me behind. Anyway, I really like the build here, but the skill you exhibit in lighting and photography always make your builds absolutely pop when viewed. Great job again! -

I think you can choose that list from the drop down menu when you add an item to wanted lists. -

Kayne replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
I think SK is right, however I do tend to offer mostly praise unless I know the builder well enough to know if they would take feedback as constructive or not. I personally prefer tips, and feedback so I can do better the next time, but not everyone does. -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

if you make a wanted list for just those three parts, you go to wanted list and search just that list by store. then filter by quantity, or lots, etc.. -
OK, so here is how the arch was constructed.... This is the technic pins holding it to the cliffs The technic pin through the base, and you can see the 2x4 plate with technic holes in it on each side. The two monorail pieces are back to back separated by this plate, And finally, the hinges that fit between the two monorail pieces. I used a string of these on top and underneath with tiles and slopes and some vegetation attached to give it that ruined look. Hope you enjoyed the build as much as I did!

Kayne replied to kabel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Can't wait to hear the rest! I like that wagon a lot....the smooth curve is great -
OK....so this does not look Robuko at all. It is a nice build, but I could find no weird animals or crazy demi-gods....but then I saw the face of the half-mad bard and started laughing. Even when you go with a different style, you always add in enough to know its you and give me great entertainment. Nice job
