  1. So... Youre saying that a set that is least popular isnt selling well... Which is reason that a set more popular will also not sell well? That makes no sense whatsoever. At one end of the scale, there is scooby doo. At the other end, there is star wars. GB will fall somewhere inbetween. And im sure that it will sell *well enough*.
  2. Hmm... you mean similar to this: http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Changing-Seasons-31038?fromListing=listing ? Or this: http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Mountain-Hut-31025?fromListing=listing ? Or this: http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Bike-Shop-Caf%C3%A9-31026?fromListing=listing ? Hmmm yeah... it would be cool if they did something like it...
  3. TLGs version: 4634 pieces. Swiss version:5704 pieces. 1130 pieces more. Thats a fair whack in price increase. I can bet a LOT of people would choose not to get it simply because of the price. Look how many currently are put off simply by the price. I also completely agree with everything Lawngnome said.
  4. (I learned something!) I dont know their reasoning either, but id hazard a guess that some process in doing it, or something, just wasnt working for them, whether it be the recycling ability of it, the material cost, the packaging machine running reliability, or maybe its the fact it had to be opened with scissors initially, but if theyve changed to the 'good old reliable box' then they are probably going to stay settled with a box, and realised the resealable bag just wasnt worth it for some reason.
  5. Seeing as its listed on the lego website, its not really a 'leak' anymore, its official.
  6. UCS Slave 1 or 75094 and mod it to have the same wings as 10212, someone done it on here and it properly finishes the look off, and makes a good substitute for 10212
  7. To be honest, I think most of them will be 'most wanted', except the scientist, the Frankenstein rocker and potentially that zombie pirate. They knocked the ball out of the park with this wave (in my opinion) and gave us many decent minifigs which could be used in multiples very easily (some with minor changes for uniqueness). They quite easily would make good 'easter egg' minifigs to use in normal city setups/modular displays etc...
  8. That's actually pretty decent. There is good colour usage, it certainly gives off the christmassy feel. Nice little details on the inside, the rooms are a decent size, getting 2 of these and then mirroring them would easily make a decent 4 walled building, and I like that there are 2 low beds and a lantern in the loft too! Really good job!
  9. Oh my gosh! a year or so ago, I bought the entire boxed set, and watched through them. I love the old Bond movies, and got to enjoy seeing the cars properly, and appreciating them. Your moc's are amazingly detailed for the fact they are minifig scale, and represent their counterparts exceptionally well. I absolutely love the Lotus and the DB5, I think you absolutely nailed them! You might have struggled with the front of the Lotus, but I can certianly say you nailed the shaping really well. Not to mention the Rolls from Goldfinger. Really nice version of the submarine Lotus too! That DB5 front grille/bonnet... I can completely understand if you'd want to keep these 'babies' yours, but what are the chances of instructions or an LDD file for these?
  10. I really dont mind the back wall at all. They had a price point he was working to. He chose to make the three most visible walls detailed just as much as the rest of the set. To get the fourth wall that, lets be honest, hardly anyone is going to display it with the rear at the front; or with the sides open but the building angked so that the rear is still facing the front so obviously; as good as the other three walls, piececount wouldnt have gone up, so they would have come from somewhere. That means either, less interior, or more panels on the exterior two side walls and less pieces used for the front. Or, heaven forbid, make it smaller... But people are already complaining of the interior being too small that you have to remove furniture to fit the car in so thats already a big nono. Sacrifices had to be made somewhere to keep the price of this set inflating to an unenticing cost, while keeping the right amount of detail where it *needed to be*. I think the right choice was made. I also think that TLG are becoming victims of their own success and ever improving quality/level of details in builds, that it is now expected that any set above a certain value now has no excuse not to be absolutely perfect and reach absolutely everybodies expectations, no matter how contradicting those expectations are. Had they lessened the interior pieces to make the back wall like the others, there would be complaints that the interior looks 'pretty empty' considering the cost they are paying for it. Had they whrunk it down to account for the more pieces, there would be complaints of the tiny building that cant fit the car in, for a high price. Had they used multiple panels on all 4 walls to be able to make them all look similar... Well... The feeling is already expressed on this page, which gave me a giggle! Had they have just increased the piece count and gone full out, they would surely be upping the price, pricing out those that will struggle but would force themselves to pay the current price. Theyd lose potential purchases, and there would be even more complaints of the price being too high. As it is now, the price per piece, as ive already said, is £0.06 . This is exceptional value considering not only is it for a licenced theme, but there are exceptional minifigs going with it. Looking at the bigger picture, i think marcos has done amazingly well achieving what he has, and made the right sacrifices where required.
  11. People genuinely answered your question about boxes and you cry youre being called a troll? Yes, people can have different opinions, but it is obvious sometimes when someones opinion comes from ignorance and not using common sense. The majority of lego is for kids. Do *most* kids really care about boxes? No. Kids build the lego, and either store it built so they can play with it frequently, or it gets pulled apart and bunged into a big plastic tub with the rest of their lego pieces. 'Kids' and 'keeping' packaging in one piece does not go together at all. Lego understand this and utilise it by making packaging that does its job, transports the lego pieces from the lego factory-to the consumer in one set of pieces, while looking enticing with its pictures. That is all it needs to do, and that is what it more often than not, does. You claim that TLG can easily afford to use ziplock bags, and it wouldnt cost muxh more to make better boxes... And that such a profitable company can afford to change their production lines to suit... Yes they could, but again, your ignorance is obvious here. TLG is successful because they have learned from mistakes. They do things right, and correct it when its not, from a business perspective. If they start trying to satisfy all these little improvements that add literally nothing to the lego itself, which is the product they market;not premium packaging; then they would be eating into their profits which, yes, are paid in bonuses, and rightly so, but also enables the company to *reinvest* and pay out to get better licences for smaller runs etc, invest in new technologies to make better quality parts (which seems to be offset by the quality of abs they are currently using), make more new moulds per theme, pay for such non lego things, like the new lego building in denmark, and pay peoples wages, create shows for ninjago, friends, chima, pay for marketing, adverts etc. A lot of that (not all) is non value added cost, which means profit doesnt come from it *directly*, but perhaps as a result of... Not everything is so plain and simple as you make it out to be. Id rather pay the price im paying, and the most of that cost goes into a good quality/higher piece count lego product. If i want better storage, i am more than capable of going to ikea or somewhere where i can buy storage containers without having to gimp other people out of a better lego product because while they dont care about the transportation packaging of a lego set, 'i want mine kept in pristine condition'. Not to mention, if you want to open a box neatly, put the effort into doing so, it really isnt difficult at all like you are making it out to be. Nor are the boxes as flimsy as tou are making them out to be. I have some of these 'flimsy' boxes preserved perfectly fine, storing some lego, because i treat them with respect. Lego ideas boxes are generally what you are talking about/requesting, but treat them with disrespect, and they'll end up being 'flimsy' as well. *edit* Also just thought... Most parents wont want their kids empty lego boxes laying around taking up space when there are more important things that space could be used for, rather than lots of empty lego boxes. One big storage container tucked in a corner is easier to manage than lots of oversized cardboard boxes. But the oversized boxes thing will probably never go away, because that is a marketing strategy to make people feel they are getting something more substantial than what is ultimately some small plastic bricks that when in bags, equate to what would be a tiny box worth. Only when built does the product then seem substantial to justify the cost (most of the time). But who is that seasoning aimed at? Adults. Who can most of the time, correctly and safely use scissors. Do TLG want to sell something that ultimately every single child will have to go to their parents to open up a bag simply because scissors are required? That isn't child friendly at all. Current bag packaging is perfectly fine for the job it does, again, transport (and build section separation). How people are managing to get split bags inside the box is beyong me, theres no sharp bits inside the cardboard box. Those cases must surely be solitary, few and far between.
  12. It's a 1x2 grille slope.
  13. I hope they do absolutely no figures that i like at all this year. I managed to get all of series 14 figs... Then i bought a fresh box of them on the spur of the moment :/ My wallet and overtime cant keep up with all the lego i want :(
  14. Haha, cute idea! Ive been wanting to do something with my rock monsters too, as i bricklinked one of each colour coz i think theyre cute but cant think what to do. Perhaps throw a few more presents around the floor by the sleigh, but its nice and i like it :) (just try and cover over those red 1x4 hinges with some overhanging plates and itll be tidy ;) )
  15. Its nice... But... Something is just niggling me with it. Im not sure if it is because it needs some gold trim, or if because sometimes studs on top can actually be a good thing, because the visible alternative of the underside of a plate/2x2 inverted slope brick isn't that nice to look at... The front is really nice, but i think the back looks too angular for my personal taste. But good effort though :)
  16. Why didn't I order 2 :( That works sooo well! Nice job
  17. Because they are for children specifically. Children need easy access and use their imagination therefore don't need a fully enclosed set. Considering children are the main focus, they need to keep the price point as low as possible, so that the sets are not only affordable for their parents to buy, but potentially within reach of the kids to buy if they save up enough pocket/birthday/christmas money. The sets will NEED to have great value for money, and so will need as much in the set to give as much playability. 4 walls and a roof with high detailed exteriors for a building gives great details, but that doesn't maximise playability/cost ratio. 1 house front, and 2 vehicles with some furniture/gimmicky traps, do. Modulars will more than likely be the closest City gets to having UCS. UCS is essentially for adults. City is pretty much specifically for children. The 2 are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum, within the same theme, offering literally, the opposite of what the other offers. 900 pieces gives plenty affordability and playability to those it is aimed at. Need more than 900 pieces for the set? Buy the entire theme. They are all designed so that every set in a theme meshes together excellently. Look at all the Arctic stuff from recent. If you owned every set and put them together, it looks like one massive set. But how many parents would ACTUALLY buy it if it was just one massive and now, expensive, set? Much fewer I can guarantee. As I can also guarantee that not every child/parent that bought a set from the Arctic theme bought every set available to it.
  18. Personally, I think Sven F already has it correct. The modular builds are essentially UCS city builds. OK, there aren't vehicles... but then... I don't think a 2000 piece lorry is really then classed as a 'city lorry'. Nor could it really be used with ANY city layout, as it just wouldn't be in scale. The Ferarri truck, ~I think is absolutely perfect for what could be considered a usable UCS style vehicle, as, while it is still small and suitable with minifigs, it is an excellently designed and detailed lorry that looks to be just the right size as well. The modular builds are that higher step than typical city stuff. They are fully enclosed, they have highly detailed interiors/exteriors, with intricate techniques. Not to mention, they go extremely well with other modulars, and city stuff works well to compliment them (rather than modulars complimenting the city stuff, which it doesn't).
  19. Why do you persist with your nonsense? The 7676 republic gunship is near a 1000 piece set. This looks far more than that. Do you even grasp the ceoncept of what 1000 pieces look like? Certainly not this...
  20. I was hesitant at first from the first post of this thread, but have been following it closely with interest and intrigue. I was skeptical about the drilling of the center of the wheel... but I can very easily look past that as I think it doesn't take away from the rest of the wheel. Not only that, IF you had not drilled it out, the wheels could still be placed, just would not rotate. For display purposes, stationary wheels is fine. But for functionality purposes, I think it was worth it and justifiable (in my humble opinion). I am actually really enjoying seeing this come together picture by picture over a few weeks (I'm guessing weeks) as it gives me something to look forward to seeing! I don't normally follow Batman stuff, but this has me hooked as from seeing the quality of the built parts so far, I am positive you are going to have an amazing vehicle!
  21. Some people want everything for peanuts. Considering the piece count (4634) and the price (£275) which is 6p per piece (excellent value by normal standards), and the ghosts/slimer, minifigs etc, it is decent value. How people can moan about the furniture having to be removed to fit the car is beyond me. It fits in there. Consider the furniture extra parts. If you want it bigger, then build your own. And I can guarantee unless you have special contacts, you will NOT get it anywhere near the size to fit the car and all similar furniture, AND get it the same price/cheaper.
  22. Your style of building always impresses me with the way you capture the characters, and the hair covering one eye thing that you have going on. That always looks to me, quite seductive for some reason... and Rey being on all 4's... lol... This is a really thoughtfully different MoC as well, reversing their roles! Really good job!
  23. This one is seriously spot on especially for how small he is, you've managed to capture literally every essence that makes Yoshi. I applaud you!
  24. They have definitely made certain parts weaker in their clutch power. The 1x2 jumper stud is a perfect example. Take a really old one that has no groove around the edge, qnd has the central pin underneath it, then take a newer one with groove around the edge and the pin underneath it. Attach the top of the jumper stud to the underside of a plate, 4x4 for example. Now start attaching pieces to the underside of the jumper stud, specifically onto the centre pin (a stud with a hole in it is required). Then add more, and gently wobble it. The older one holds firm. The new one will easily give. The new jumper studs without central underside pin are just as bad. I do not believe it is age, but their elasticity as mentioned above, and perhaps, a slither of reduction in dimension to enable the pieces to be pulled apart easier without teeth. They clearly address that as an issue by implementing the grooved bottoms on certain tiles/plates... Maybe reduction in dimension was another method? Ill have to put a vernier on them and test it out!
  25. Problem with the rules is they are rather vague. What constitutes the cut off date for being a modern war? I personally wouldnt class WW1 as modern, but then im sure there are people that would. What about the Boer War? That was just 12 years before WW1... Im not trying to say i want ww1 sets (ok it would be cool, think of the tanks!) but this is an example of vagueness which i think hinders more than gives a slight over reaching freedom... On the topic of tron... Oh i would be all over it! I loved the original, and think the second one kept to the roots of the first pretty well. Ive never heard of FNAF before so know absolutely nothing about it :s
