  1. I'll have a play and see what I can come up with to offer something actually productive than a constructive criticism with no method of improvement
  2. I love the fold out arms, they're done really well, and I like the idea/size... but... it is supposed to be a cylindrical cone sort of shape... and I just feel this is more of a square head that tapers in, not a tapered cylinder... I think there is more that could be done to achieve a rounder head.
  3. Don't forget the intention of who this is for, children to take home from a party. The grey pin might not provide enough friction for the stability the black pin can provide. The head looks fine considering you are doing it at a reduced/limited piece count. If as you say this holds up, I'd be more than happy with it! Great job on making it smaller!
  4. Are you ever capable at all, of posting anything that isn't a snide dig at someone when it isn't a thread consisting of a MoC you did?
  5. Thats actually a very good idea. At least that way they can have a very specific direction with what they are actually trying to achieve for the set and it clearly differentiates between what the ucs fan will be getting compared to a ups set.
  6. I agree about the sentiment that its good they've stuck with moulded heads for the anthropomorphic creatures. Also, am I seeing a potential re-use of Peter Pan's hat/hair combo for Link from The Legend of Zelda? (Hopeful, but even just to make your own minifig of him, and the legs! Makes it much easier!)
  7. I'm loving the sleek look of this! It is like, you've modded it just how it should have been done. I may have to take notes for mine when I build it...
  8. That is because the AT-AT is living off your previous successes. All your points you mentiined have nothing to do with actual exterior shaping, which is where yours falls short, especially on the head. But I'm not going to hijack Vstarvans thread so I will talk no more of it here. If you have anything to reply, pm me. Vstarvan, I'd ignore Anio's insistance about minifig scale. Maybe it is lost in translation for him, or whatever, but he, as you have pointed out, has a different concept of minifigure scale as the rest of us do. Absolutely no one has to 'conform to Anio's process or be a failure' as he implies. That is how people come up with different techniques, implement the frame in part of the details, have different build styles... You do it how you are doing it and you will find ways around problems. There is absolutely nothing that proves taking a creative licence while applying a rough ratio can't work. Keep at it, and you will be successful. Just not to certain people...
  9. Anio, not everyone builds like you do. It actually is possible to build something using a different process than you do, and be successful. I mean look at your AT-AT, that didn't turn out as good as the rest of your UCS mocs. I don't understand how you can say minifigure scale is not a scale, but a concept and immediately after, say someone elses model IS minifigure scale, when you just said it is a concept (definition:idea, therefore not a precice measure). Vstarvan is going with his own 'concept' of minifigure scale-which a lot of us understand to be suitably close one way or another in scale to the minifig as if real life. Which becomes a compromise of height and width. I'm looking forward to your attempt at this Vstarvan, and it looks like you are off to a good start. I don't envy the cockpit canopy troubles you may face though!
  10. That looks rpetty cool! Makes me wonder if they did do a release of the old batman, it would probably be a 1 wave thing...
  11. While I don't actually care much for the film, that Ecto and the women figs looks amazing! I'll definitely be getting me one of them!!
  12. I'm not being funny, but it doesn't have to be disjointed at all to include all them things. Microfighter Battle of Hoth by Sam, on Flickr Sure, they're microfighter vehicles, but that is around 2300 pieces minus the minifigs, including all the gumpf underneath it to raise it 1 brick height for the sloping trim.. Even if you removed the microfighter vehicles, and made 1 snowspeeder/AT-ST out of the pieces instead, removed half of the front snowy area and repositioned it behind the hangar door to allow an interior, that would have been much better. This 'UCS' system scale playset, apart from the ion cannon and size of the door, is a complete waste of time for anyone that has previously bought the hoth sets. And lets be honest here, they have been throwing hoth set after hoth set at us for ages without rest. So it isn't going to be like hardly any of us have any Hoth sets. There will be few and far between people that are new and this would be a great *system scale playset*. The modularity of it is a joke. You can do that with the Ewok village if you wanted. Not really too difficult. They could have at least included an AT-ST in this set instead of the snowspeeder and instead of releasing it seperate. THAT would have made it a bit more enticing. Instead, I'll just pass on this and get the At-ST when it comes out. I'm saying all this as someone who loves all things Hoth related.
  13. I don't see a UCS set, I see a few system scale sets plonked into one set... much like the mock up of the super pack
  14. You literally described how an awful lot of female teenagers are/can relate to when theyre being rebellious/all knowing... Which enables them to relate to that character. Most teenagers can be annoying/have annoying catch phrases... Show me a school without half tue teenagers coming up with annoying catch phrases? It wont happen. Her character progresses extremely well in her personality and grows up very nicely. Id say they hit the nail on the head with her character.
  15. That gave me a smile, just when I needed it too :)
  16. Spot on to be honest. There has already been a UCS R2D2 which is perfectly sound enough as it is. There literally is no reason to be adding this into the mix. It's a really nice MoC and all, something I'd be proud to have if it was mine, but literally pointless on Ideas.
  17. Congrats on posting the obvious. Of course i posted 3 sets of my choosing. That is all it needs. They are current sets out now so regardkess of how kany more sets i had listed, it still proves my point that it can be done at a REASONABLE cost, not even at 500. That right there, is FACT. Go google the definition of fact, i think you need to as that isnt my opinion, that is FACT. Again, answer my point about the GBHQ... Or cant you so you just resort to a petty attempt at mocking instead, like all people with invalid arguements who dont know when to admit theyre wrong? And you could uave done the exact same thing and messaged me this privately, but nope, you post here and make yourself look daft incorrectly quoting me. At no point did i say that you said to post spoilers. I said you said spoilers are to be expected and to stop complaining about it, and stop all the reports about it. Again, someone else that doesnt read someones post properly before replying. I was not disrespectful to you at all, so drop the attitude of telling me to shut up, or are you going on a power trip now?
  18. Uhm... did you even read the entire of my post? There is factual reasoning why it is legitimately possible. It's not even worth continuing this discussion with you at all, all you do is say your opinion, back it up with nothing but more opinion and blank what anyone else says. At least I had the decency to refute your points with fact and actual logical reasoning. Still waiting on your explanation of the ghostbusters set being released considering the ONLY other set they have for it is a £40 Ideas set with a duo of films out back in the 80's. FAR far less than what SW has going for it.
  19. And also try and keep separate complete and utter guessing/opinion from fact. Can you tell me what research you carried out to determine that we in this room represent a HUGE proportion of the tiny amount of potential customers? Absolutely NO one can say that it isn't possible for TLG to do, except TLG, as only they have the ability to carry out/determine whether it would be a success. And in all honesty, the way they are going, whatever they decide to do, I can pretty much guarantee it will be the right decision. And who said it has to be exactly the same size as before? It *could* be slightly smaller. Just because the last one was MF scale doesnt mean the next potential one they did would HAVE to be. Maybe more would buy it if it was slightly smaller and kept within a semi reasonable price? Not to mention, you CAN NOT use price per piece based on system scale sets and UCS sets as a comparison. Todays MF: 1329 pieces, RRP: £130 = essentially 10p per piece. UCS Sandcrawler: 3296 pieces RRP: £250 = 7p per piece (pretty good for a SW set with many minifigures as well) Slave 1: 1996 pieces RRP: £170 = 8p per piece That was just 5 minutes if that, of research (took longer to type this out). Why on earth do you think a UCS MF for £500 with 5000 parts is hysterical? It is EASILY achievable given the above FACTS. You aren't applying logic or even perspective at all. You are simply stating your opinion. *edit* just corrected my figures, they were terribly wrong, but are now correct, point specifically remains. Heck, they could even do a 5000 piece MF for £350 going by the Sandcrawlers price per piece. But it wouldn't be, it would be more like 400 minimum which is Slave 1 price per piece ratio. You tell me why this could not be doable given the recent Ghostbusters set? THAT on the surface seems illogical. Explain that.
  20. Hahaha, that made me laugh lol.... Im sure many others sympathize with your choice It looks really well done at that scale. The lines look really clean and it is nicely smooth. The door 'vents?' look really good too, nicely carried out!
  21. I really like the viewport, I've not seen anyone mod theirs like that, and I think it works exceptionally well! I do now wonder though, if the front of the body is too narrow for the head? Side on view looks just right though!
  22. 750 certainly is a huge amount, I feel that they could make one for £550. Given new techniques/parts etc, they could probably make one quite easily at the same scale with less parts but just as much exterior detail. I also feel that it would sell out within weeks. I also feel that regardless who bought them (shame on scalpers though), that as long as they got their sales, it doesn't matter who bought them. I also then feel that I don't believe TLG would think their image would get hurt if they made a completely new one. I mean... They released a new X-Wing. I'm pretty sure they'd not even consider it as hurting those that already have a 10179 as it isn't like they'd release an exact copy. They still have their very own 10179. They would most definitely NOT release a 10179. So those 10179ers can still feel like they have something special. To complain that a 'similar version' has been released is being seriously anal, and TLG can't cater to those that are seriously anal, but to those with money. It wouldn't even dent their image. I however, do not believe that sales of an SSD and double it etc (or whatever method that bases sales form an SSD) is any form of successful research. To me, the SSD is a door wedge. It is a big triangle of light bluish gray lego plates that to be honest, is impressive in size and capturing a 'general appearance', but not worthy of me spending £350 (to me personally.). It is also not as iconic, nowhere near infact (again, my own opinion) that to simply estimate the success chance based from another model, just isn't a viable option. However, I do believe they already know full well how viable it is/is not, and are acting upon that outcome.
  23. Completely agree... With everything Solscud said. I think you aren't looking at the bigger picture, at how much attention the previous MF regardless of if it was a failure or success.... has had, and created. It is essentially like a famous dead artist. Might not have been amazing at the time, but by dear god, it made it big when they were dead (or out of production!). Disposable incomes are higher now, so yes, while prices are going to be higher, many people will still be able to afford them. And what with all the new Episode 7 hype, Han Solo AND the MF being in this film (unlike in 2007), reigniting the drool for seeing the MF in a new setting, and not to mention the potential side film about Han Solo, that is literally the perfect storm to release such a set. Consider this: The current MF playset is essentially a slightly updated version of the previous one. Nothing drastically better, just a few little improvements that when added up make it a fair bit better. That isn't exactly a cheap set, but they've released a new version not so long after the previous one went out of production. There clearly is a market for people who want the MF, and TLG know the interest in the MF, which enabled them to release another version barely upgraded for the same price. They'll know for sure if it's a good thing or not. As you quoted the guidelines, I felt it the right thing, to do as you said. Here it is: Staff: The staff are here to help you. Do not debate staff issues with them. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=118611&st=2900 10th post down, Bobs text: What part of "no spoilers" do you not understand?? Just because it is not clearly there in the guidelines does NOT mean the guidelines are exhaustive. The mods may edit a thread's rules (or make a clear post as has been done) for dynamics of such a time when it is required, such as new film being released about Star Wars etc. They have the power to, as determined by the above quote above, which you also linked to, but clearly did not read properly.
  24. You see, herein lies the problem. You say you 'and other moderators'... But who are they? Because a few pages back (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=118611&st=2900) Bob DeQuatre was warning people NOT to give out spoilers. So, the SW mod is saying not to, and you are saying it is to be expected? Lack of communication going on there, conflicting signals to everyone... I have been quiet about the whole spoilers thing since the film came out because people have for the most part been very courteous, just the odd few slip through. But if you are going to start telling people off for using the report function as it is intended for when someone has done something that is against what they have been told by the sw mod you are now making the report function obsolete, as people will be scared of getting banned for using it what it is meant for, and as said, mods have lives/jobs to live also, so won't be as aware, then people start getting frustrated about spoilers etc (I'm not, i'm done with that, I'm here at risk now ) and arguements occur. Can you please sort out amongst you mods what is/isn't allowed? Thanks
