WHAT?!? Where do you live? I'd love it if I could go to my library and print stuff.

Technic General Discussion
Saberwing40k replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's probably current. If you have the sets and boxes and stuff, you might be able to change that. Start gripe. I'm still fuming a little bit over not being able to enter the Lego Mercedes truck of the future competition, which was partially due to the fact that they ended the competition at noon rather than midnight, which is literally what everyone else does. Also, I feel like they picked the ugliest entry. I'm not saying that mine would have done better, but there were several more worthy entries. and, I'm disappointed that there are not Technic competitions more often. Also, the new parts for 42043 are still not available on the parts site. However, I was able to score a used 8275 for a reasonable price, i just forgot to use a coupon on it. End gripe. -
Personally, I think that 1:50 scale crane parts are far too small for most Lego creations. Plus, with Lego hooks, I have found out the hard way that most hooks can not actually have more than 3 falls of winch line without there being issues with lack of weight on the hook not providing enough tension.

Oh well. But that's just the aerospace industry, right? -

Perfect place to ask, actually. I don't know why, but I have never had that problem. My solution would be to add an air tank in the system. -

Oh, since Jim posted this as something that could be talked about, I'm going to go on a mini rant about how I missed out on an eBay lot that included 9398, 8455, and 8043, among other things, all for far less than buying those things individually. It also makes me rather disappointed that decent Technic lots almost never show up, which I sometimes like, because you know you'll get some cool stuff. Most people can't even be arsed to do a simple google search before throwing stuff up on Ebay. Also, Lego still does not have the Arocs pneumatics, or any other new parts, for sale. Rant over, let's get back on topic. -
Has anyone seen this site? It has a lot of pictures of sets, including Bionicle. https://jsfiddle.net/jayqfpdx/embedded/result/

Blakbird is an engineer by profession, so he might not be working on a Lego one, but I'd still like to see it. -
I didn't know trailers like this existed either, and before I watched the video I was going to say that there would be better methods. But, as the OP pointed out, this trailer has low ramp heights, low drag, and high ground clearance, which would be of great value in some regions.

Well, looking at the helicopter, I will have to revise my opinion on the lack of rudders. It looks to have them, and in addition the tail section has several of those single 1L beams with pins, but in white instead of black. Also, there is a new, similar part, but with a 1l axle instead of a pin. This can be seen clearly on 1 of the Bionicle sets, 71303. Other than that, there is nothing else new to report.

Looks great, even if some colors are off. The head is especially good, and they are the hardest part to make. I'd just love to see Lego do a set in this style. By the way, how did you make the hips? Mechanically, they are the hardest part, as well as the rest of the joints. Pictures would be appreciated.

I wouldn't phrase it that way, as it is a little bit disparaging to nerds, which most of us are, but I agree with the sentiment. Lego needs to do Technic stuff for the Technic people, and superhero stuff for the comic book people. But honestly, this rumor is a load of bunk. Speaking from experience, I'd say that Lego store employees have pretty much no knowledge of upcoming sets, any more than a person on the street, so this just sounds like an unfounded opinion, or maybe a personal wish. Really, it also makes little business sense. Why would Lego release a $300+ set of a vehicle in tie in to a movie that has not come in, and may honestly flop hard? Plus, I think that a new UCS Batmobile is too soon, the Tumbler only came out like September of last year.
-
I honestly don't think the new batmobile would be a good choice. It's not nearly as iconic as the Tumbler or the Burton version, or as technically interesting as the Arkham Knight one. Plus, I do not think there is a lot of overlap between fans of that stuff and Technic. A much better choice would be a James Bond style car, a liscensed exterior with some serious firepower under the hood. My vote is still BMW, as their slogan is, after all, "The Ultimate Driving Machine."

How does this relate to Technic? How about something that does? I finished making a mockup of the body work and a bit of the chassis of 42050, just to get an impression of the size of it. I also placed it on a test chassis I had built. 42050 boilerplate by Saberwing007, on Flickr 42050 mockup by Saberwing007, on Flickr The chassis is not quite perfect, the wheels are not inset enough, but the general idea is there. The proportions might look a bit off, but a real funny car looks very much like this: However, I am able to make some conclusions about this model from the mock up, colors aside. Funny cars do not have rear wings like 42050, instead having more of a rear deck, as in the above photo. This might mean that the B model might have the same chassis as the A model, only difference being the assembled body work. Aside from the exhausts and the wing, the model seems quite accurate, even having a central cockpit, using a new panel in blue. Unfortunately, I do not think the model will be able to wheelie on its own, needing some kind of mechanism to do so. I actually hooked up a motor to this chassis, minus the bodywork, and tested it, and it was barely able to do it. To get the chassis and the body work to fit, I had to make the chassis almost seven studs longer, meaning that there is probably no chance of unassisted wheelies. The only other possibility is that the gearbox is used to control whether the model wheelies or not. One gear makes the model go fast, and the other one has more torque to pop wheelies. I just hope they don't make this model too fast, as a switched model like this could be hard to catch up with. Probably better to make it fully remote controlled, I dunno. Better still would be to make it pullback.

Indeed, although one could theoretically make one using the new parts from 42043. But, I am actually seriously contemplating building one myself. -
And I made a suggestion about it on April 1st of this year, before you even joined this site. But, in actuality, neither of us coined it. Lego has applied the term to several Star Wars sets, going back to at least 2002. Applying a previously existing term to something different is not coining it. If you came up with a term for something that previously did not have an official or commonly accepted term, that would be different. But, neither of us have, so oh well.

You could probably have one made like a linear actuator, but with additional screw out sections inside. Basically, as each section screwed out, it would come to a stop, and then unscrew the next section. You could probably have Efferman make a 3D printed one, that would be easy. Less likely would be a 3D printed pneumatic one, that might have problems. Thing is, such a part is rather limited in terms of what it could be used for. And, for that reason, I don't see Lego doing it.
