  1. Trenchers pretty much always go backwards, away from the trenching equipment. That way, the vehicle is always over solid ground. If it went the other way, the trench could collapse.
  2. You know, that part looks an awful lot like a PF battery box. R/C confirmed?
  3. The lighter one, I'd have to say.
  4. It's expanded universe, but I'd like to see a version of Durge, the bounty hunter from the animated Clone Wars series. Here's a picture of him if you don't remember: Another obvious one not mentioned is the MagnaGuard, the bodyguard droids of General Grievous. And, of course, Boba Fett. Armored and robotic characters just work so much better with the CCBS building style. (Regarding the picture, it is literally the best screengrab I could find of him.)
  5. Oh really? I just checked not even five minutes ago, and the mask is currently fetching a price of... Drumroll please... 1 dollar. 1 freaking dollar. Although, this is from a Russian Bricklink store, and they have a minimum purchase of 900 dollars, so make of that what you will.
  6. I checked for news on other sites, they had news for Duplo and Juniors, but not Technic. I don't get that.
  7. That's different, most people don't do sedans like this. Looks nice, too, was yours black and red?
  8. I have never heard a trained mechanic call an anti roll bar a torsion bar, which is in and of itself incorrect, as it would be a torsion spring. Also, it's not unknown, I was just using Citreons as an example, VW Beetles and others have them. As for features, I'd like to see a realistic gear shifter, more like 8880, and maybe some different types of suspension, rather than double wishbone or live axle. I'd actually like to see adjustable seats make a return, see how they could handle that. Another nice feature would be simulated hydropneumatic suspension, with just pneumatics.
  9. Actually, what you are talking about is an anti roll bar. A torsion bar is a type of suspension that utilizes a twisting element to absorb shocks. Many early Citreons have them, like the 2CV. Also, Ackerman correction has been implemented, at least in 8880. I'd have to think about it, there are a number of features that have never been implemented that could be.
  10. Actually, Tommy, you are partially right about the drum in the Mammoet move shown above, it is a coke drum, I think used processing steel. The trailers are actually not just 4 units, there are actually 6 Scheurle modules in each platform. Your picture shows a model of the setup, there is a review of said model on CranesEtc, which is an invaluable site for machineary nuts like us. Also, ammnich, your trailer looks nice. For steering, some real beam transporters have a second driver in a steer car under the rear of the beam. Or, you could just make the trailer self tracking. Basically, you connect the turntable to the steering racks, such that as the beam moves off center, the trailer steers. Or, just leave it remote control, some real trucks do that to.
  11. I'd say a 3 stud wide actuator would work just fine for most applications that would need such a thing. Also, what about a piece sort of like the 42043 telescopic bracket, but as a 2 stage outrigger?
  12. I'd say we still know nothing, so could everybody please lay off the complaints? We don't even know what color it's going to be.
  13. Basically, all a differential does is divide torque based on resistance, which is why it helps when a vehicle turns. Conversely, it can be used to average speed, if the two outputs are used as inputs instead, as in an adder mechanism. I've also seen a differential used to get unusual gear ratios that would not be achievable otherwise. As for disadvantages, an open differential can be somewhat of a bother, because if one wheel loses traction, that wheel will spin. The bevel gears in the diff are also a little bit fragile, so care must be used in order to avoid damage.
  14. If this truck were a little bit bigger, it would be a great rescue vehicle.
  15. All you have to do is right click on the picture, which should pull up a sub menu, then click on the option that says "Copy Image Location". Alternately, in Brickshelf, click on the image until you see the image itself, with a URL ending in .jpg or another image extension. Then, take that URL, come to this site, and when you are making a post, click on the Image button, which is below and to the left of the emoticon button, which pulls up a dialog box, then paste the image URL into that box, and click the okay button. I'd link to the tutorial, but that thread seems to be missing... Anyway, a knuckle boom of that size could be used with a winch, or a fixed hook, I have seen it done both ways. If you are not using the clamshell grab, I'd recommend using the bigger metal hook used in 8258. In order to attach that, all you'd have to do is turn the angle connector used to connect the clamshell 90 degrees, so it points straight down, and then use a couple of 2L liftarms to connect the hook. Also, Buster Haus, it would not fit in the configuration shown, as those cam pieces have to be less than 1/2 studs apart in order to grip the hook.
  16. Correct, but what if the set is meant to be a test car? that would be an interesting concept, and there could be some parts to make adjustments.
  17. I'd recommend using some canned air or any other stuff used to clean computers and stuff like that. And, under no circumstances should you wash a motor, or other electrical parts, for reasons that should be obvious.
  18. Actually, you are right. The only thing mentioned was that the robot model did not really work at low speed, although that is more due to the speed control being thru a voltage drop than anything else. And, it was the motor struggling to move the whole model. I somehow got those mixed around.
  19. Wait, didn't you yourself say that the unit had a hard time operating any functions in your review, or am I mistaken?
  20. I'd say even using a pf medium motor is pushing it. It probably would not hurt the unit, as I recall, but I also hear about it struggling with even the motor included in the set.
  21. I for one am fine with the black with white camo color scheme the model has now. I don't understand why they would have the camo on it, because it is all too obvious as to what it is, and then there is the whole thing about the real car already being released, so therefore the only other reason they have it like this is because of the fact that the model is intended to represent a test mule, and will be released like this. Why would Lego go through all the trouble of making all the parts in black, only to have the model look different later? That's my opinion, at least. Also, I don't know how informed the guys working at the toy fair stand are, or if they even work for Lego, so I'd take everything from them with a grain of salt.
  22. Original retail price of 8455 was 125 euro, and it has less than half the parts. But, like you said, we have 1200 parts and a bunch of shortcuts. Actually, going by the scale, I have a very hard time believing the 1200 parts thing. And what did we get? The most basic version of the real machine possible, with several shortcuts taken. I am really hoping that the part count and price are off, otherwise this set is going to be a letdown.
  23. Got that right. We don't even know if the price is accurate. I'm waiting until I know about everything to judge this set.
  24. Might I ask why you've needed to do this? Do you not have any 24x43 wheels or something?
  25. I did not have any of the sets listed, but I did have 8466, which is pretty much a supercar. I changed the gears all the time, I liked seeing the engine move at different speeds. Plus, in relation to everything that came previously, 8070 was a major step backwards. No AWD, no gearbox at all, and the Power Functions really did not add anything to the set. Opening doors are nice, but not as a motorized feature. Hopefully, Lego has done something different with this set. Although, if there are a number of clever features, it is almost disappointing that there is so much cladding, such that you can hardly see them.
