  1. The CO2 from sublimating dry ice is going to be very cold and will probably destroy all the seals in LEGO pneumatic cylinders and maybe crack the tubing as well. Interesting idea but I think you are going to have some trouble here.
  2. Turns out "all" Technic sets is not so easy to define. For example, the Expert Builder sets from 1977 to 1981 don't say Technic on them, but are generally considered Technic sets. The Star Wars sets of ~2000 may or may not be included on the list. Certain Racers sets (like the 8461 Williams or the 8653 Enzo) may or may not be included on the list. The first Bionicle sets said Technic on the can. How about Roboriders or Slizer? And then there are all the supplemental sets and parts packs. The list you see exported from Brickset is not the same list you'll see on the opening page of Technicopedia, and I'm sure you could find another dozen versions based on people's preferences. In my opinion, Technicopedia is the definitive list of course.
  3. Damn, you just keep pumping out the glorious scale MOCs. Each one is better than the last. I can't imagine what we're going to see next. Very inspiring work my friend.
  4. Based on my research, it was 1982. The 8859 tractor still said "Expert Builder" on the box in 1981, but the 8050 Universal Set said "Technic" in 1982. This makes some sense since the historian in the video said 1981 which is when the name would have been coined inside the company, then rolling out into products on the shelves in 1982. Sadly, it does not look like I mentioned this on my 1982 Technicopedia page. I'll have to fix that.
  5. Looks like you've got a swashplate mechanism there. Very nicely done.
  6. No, the presentation topic isn't for a review, it's for presenting the instructions. Courbet's post is where the instructions are presented. I guess it was easier back when I was doing all the instructions to all the presentation topics were my own posts. It is a bit more convoluted now.
  7. I thought some of the information was fascinating. For example, one complaint about the suspension on 8860 (the first set to have suspension) is that it was swing arm type and therefore the wheel does not stay vertical during stroke. However, we now find out that this was based on Jan's VW Beetle which actually has this type of suspension! I don't think I've ever seen anyone build a Beetle body on 8860 before, but someone should.
  8. I've updated the first post with all the latest pictures and links.
  9. Not sure why I haven't commented until now, but this is an incredible build. The proportions and coloring are just perfect. I just had to honor it with a couple of renders. Larger versions are available at my Bricksafe. By the way, it is not just the physical model that is amazing. To model this digitally is an incredibly complex feat, and Thorsten made it look just like the real thing. Congratulations to both of you.
  10. Sorry it took me so long to get around to rendering this great model.
  11. Can you send me the LDraw files for this one and the new train module so I can make renders of them for the first post?
  12. If that's all they are looking for then there is no need to advertise the position in the Technic community. Just hire an actor. I think knowledge and enthusiasm for Technic as well as respect within the community are probably important. Depending on what the goals of the program are, it could lend a lot of credibility if they use someone that is well known to AFOLs.
  13. I'm actually thinking about applying. Never done any voice work though. I'd be much more comfortable with written communication.
  14. Here you go. I was a little surprised at how different these look given that they are both orange Aston Martins in the same scale.
  15. I don't know if anyone has built both this and Jeroen's DB-11, but it would be great to see them together. I could render them together if I had the LDraw file.
  16. It's very sophisticated. Mine looks positively moronic by comparison. If I had known his was going to look so good I would have hired a model to stand in for me.
  17. I'm actually OK with this answer as someone who's built a lot of rack and pinion. While realistic, rack and pinion isn't very interesting mechanically. There are a lot of gear systems in Technic, but relatively few mechanical linkages. I'd like to see more of them because they are really useful and therefore a great thing to learn.
  18. Don't forget the Antikythera Mechanism. It is probably my favorite non-vehicular MOC.
  19. That parts list is a Brickstock file. You need to download the Brickstock software to open it. If you want to create a Bricklink parts list, you can do so from Brickstock. I think Bricklink will also import the file directly now, but you can't just copy-paste the content.
  20. Every set of instructions has a copyright at the bottom of every page. As the instruction creator, I am always listed along with Akiyuki and anyone else who helped out. The files are all password protected so the copyright cannot be removed. I wonder if these files from Chinese sites still contain my copyright? I wonder if a check is in the mail to my location right now?
  21. Great review Jim. I suspect my opinion will be similar to yours when I end up getting this set, assuming they ever actually decide to release anything in North America again. I am surprised that no one has mentioned the most glaring problem with this "tow truck". There is no tow bar. Therefore, there is no way to actually tow anything. This is just an off-road crane.
  22. Wow, I would have thought you just used Photoshop to achieve the blurred background, but you did it the old fashioned mechanical way. Good work!
