  2. @Anton: That's perfectly okay. If you think that removing a colourful background with Photoshop (a non-free software) from each and every photos (with nice antialiased edges) is easier than getting a 2 cent paper sheet...
  3. You convinced me. *burns diploma
  4. For making photos, the most important thing is the white background. That means a sheet of A0 paper. Or much smaller for this contest. Then either take the photos outdoors in the shade, or use 2 simple lights (yellow is okay too). Or just the windows. Then apply some auto color correction and auto contrast, then that's pretty much it. The most disturbing thing on a bad photo is the background. There is no excuse for not using a white paper for that.
  5. Thank you for the build and nice pictures! About the rear suspension: the reason that the rear seems to touch the ground on some pictures is that I forgot to place a solid sheet under the background white paper, and the ground was quite uneven and soft. The bottom of the car is completely flat. On this picture (still not perfectly flat ground), you can see that the rear is at about the same level as the front: Also as you can see, you should pull out the flex axles of the front wheel arcs a tiny bit. The rear suspension can also be easily assisted with a Lego rubber band. You can see it on this pic:
  6. You have more than one month to complete the model with 200 parts. More than one month to borrow a camera, or ask a friend who can make okay photos (making model photos is really not a science). More than one month to buy or borrow pieces, maybe you could even start a thread and request the pieces. Don't tell me that you can't spend 10 dollars on a bricklink order (then how do you have any pieces at all, or a computer to work with LDD?). But if you really can't, you could still borrow pieces, 1 month should be enough to receive a package from even foreign countries. Don't expect that your discoloured, badly presented and photographed, slobby model (even if it's creative and well-built) to be treated like the professional entries you can expect here (professional entrants do the work on every aspects of the entry, not just the model itself. And the toughest work is still with the model. In my entry of the last contest, the work on the model took 95% of the whole time. Still, I managed to make a professional entry with okay photos and video in the last week before the deadline while having a full-time job and having just a very limited experience and tools with photography and video editing).
  7. Grow a second head, please. EDIT: pwned by Sariel
  8. 8880 was the top in that era. But there were awesome models after that too, 8110 for example. Maybe we are just too grown-ups to fall in love with an official model again. The 8880 looks very old for the younger generations I guess.
  9. I agree on making an LDD version should be mandatory. Two months is pretty long so it should be enough, we can see it by the number of entries so far. A mandatory video seems to be more problematic.
  10. Hmm, the wind-up mechanism is very clever, much better than I could do. I'm wondering though how the small gears in the differential can handle the torque which can be quite big according to my experience. I noticed some ABS dust in my mechanisms after a few full winding-ups.
  11. My favourite so far. And my idea stolen...
  12. Thank you for the faming, and the model is up on Lego Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/67145
  13. Thanks for the comments! I had an interesting Sunday: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=629283410489638&set=a.117041338380517.29333.114682131949771&type=1&theater Thanks again Pwessels for letting them know about the model.
  14. Thanks! With the towball piece, the suspension would be too stiff and somewhat to low.
  15. Thank you very much for the post on the Audi Sport Facebook! I can't PM you either yet. By mere luck, DTM is coming to Hungary the next weekend (the 1st of June), so it would be possible to arrange the exposition and race visiting.
  16. Yes, but luckily all DTM cars have essentially the same chassis with the same sizes, so I would have built some other body and try to improve on the design of the beater (and I did redesign all the functions of the prototype). No wonder your logic is defied by my stance, I don't overdo thinking... This original idea thing reminds me of the TSATS contest, where I accidentally "stole" an idea. MY entry was totally different, but there were some cursing around. If I had post a WIP, maybe I could have save myself from the trouble. Okay, this thinking can lead to securing ideas or concepts maybe... Anyhow, this whole copyright topic is too complex to be entirely regulated, so common sense will always play a bigger role in my opinion.
  17. Actually, I'm more worried that my idea gets accidentally "stolen" (idea as concept or theme) so I want to post it even in WIP stage so that it will be the first. This was the case with the Triple contest and my last MOC too (okay, a red car is anything but original, but a small research showed that only a few touring cars and especially with roll-cage have been made. But I was worried if, by chance, other MOCers will find that niche "market"). So to sum it up, I wouldn't share just ideas. But as soon as something is implemented (even just a prototype) I share.
  18. The topic is still about a hobby. Lego is not necessary equal to hobby, since there are professional designer Lego employees. Does anyone (apart from employed designers, obviously) you know is able to make money from MOCing that's enough to make a living? I think Sheepo or Crowkillers is the best selling MOCer today (maybe VFracingteam?). Do they make a living from MOCing? I think we misunderstand each other somehow. You are thinking in a much broader scope when the topic is clearly about sharing Lego MOCs. Not about painters, sculptors, web designers, music composers or paid Lego employees, or event organizers, advertisers, part retailers, bricklinkers etc. And I don't think this Lego community is big enough to be exemplary in intellectual property protection. If someone wants to make sufficient money from Lego model design, the only way to succeed is to being known. And for that, you need to share (how the hell anyone would know about you otherwise?)
  19. Well, maybe I just need to have sex with my Audi to get the satisfaction I need and move on
  20. @NKubate: Maybe I misunderstood your post, but we are talking about a hobby, and you are talking about business. I don't think anyone can make a living (or wants to) from his Lego hobby. VMLN8R: Maybe some critique would made me explain the reasons and maybe rethink some design choices and other things. Maybe that would relax my desire for recognition and fame and glory to see some negative comments. Dunno. Unfortunately I am one of the few who does care about fame (or one of the few who admit it).
  21. I haven't read through the thread but I can say two things: 1.) You are paranoid 2.) don't expect constructive criticism here. People are too nice here to say their negative criticism (unless it's a MOC from a non-member. All the negativity gets poured on those ) I also think it's the greatest form of admire if your MOC is being built by others or being blogged in any ways. I don't really care if I don't get properly credited, because the Technic community over the world is so small that the final credit and recognition will quickly get back to the original creator. I don't care if Average Joe thinks that a MOC was built someone else than me, as long as the small community knows about the real creator. And if someone makes 50 dollars for selling instructions then I don't give a flying f**** EDIT: so what I'm trying to say is: *This community is way too small to worry that people who really matter (other builders or real enthusiastic) won't know if the creation is made by you. *the best way to get feedback if people actually build your MOCs (not just saying nice things in a thread). And for that, you'll need to release the whole design in some way.
