  1. That's partly fisheye from a wide-angle camera lens, and partly because when you build bricks under plates, and then a more solid structure on top, the Lego warps a bit (because you know they make the bricks slighter smaller to fit better). Also, the closest Lego store was a 36 hour drive until they opened one in my city a year or two ago.
  2. That's the magic of a real build. That, and being able to take it apart to build something else when you are done. Oh, and illegal building techniques.
  3. Those minifigure heads with chinstraps... Are they from pirate sets, or are those pilfered from beefeater CMFs or something like that? I can't say that I've seen them before.
  4. I wouldn't be too hasty to call building Lego MOCs money-making, even if you enter it in competitions. But still, I agree that a PaB order on the side of every purchase is a good way to build up your parts collection.
  5. There are a few options. I would recommend rounded plates, lining up the corners of wedge plates (so that you don't have any sharp unnatural 90 degree corners), or greebling the edges.
  6. Very nice build - I commend the modularity, and the shaping of the raft looks great, and the dark red works surprisingly well. Well done!
  7. The best way to get Lego in my opinion is when you get old vintage sets for free from your neighbours who were clearing out their shed and have no idea of the value. Of course, it doesn't happen often, though!
  8. In that case, I don't think it adds to the build, especially when it's grey. A white half-pin might look better, or none at all.
  9. Impressive build! And even if its not as small as you hoped, it would surely be less than 1/20 of the original 4600 part count!
  10. Was this based off a real ship? If so, this could answer our questions.
  11. Such simple fixes hardly compromise on the story or the complexity. It's up to the creator, I guess.
  12. I must say, I do think the custom string might look better, but still I would never do it myself. Once again, personal preference. Also, the exposed technic looks far superior, good job!
  13. When we (in Australia) say America, we mean the USA, as its the only 'America' we talk about. The continent is referred to as North America. What a history! Once again, in Australia, there's not nearly as much history. Very special.
  14. I concur. A solid build indeed. But since you're already in the 'large' category, why not add a bit of height to the build? A tower would look good, even a ruined one.
  15. It's not a major issue, and simply comes down to individual preference. But for me, this is what I would do.
  16. It sounds good, that's exactly what I would do. The only issue is that the sides would not be perpendicular to the top.
  17. I believe you can buy plain shark heads on PaB. Also, I commend the photo edit - it looks very sleek and professional.
  18. Something about Lego is that it is different to everybody: To some, it is a toy, simply to function, so it doesn't really matter what it looks like because imagination will fill in the blanks. For others, it is a hobby, so they like the studded look. But for others, it is an art form, and hiding studs has the cleanest (and arguably best-looking) appearance.
  19. I concur with tiles, but as long as its not plates. We don't want any illegal building techniques!
  20. Even 1x1 rounded plates (some call them 'studs') could be added to the sharpest corners, just to break it up a little. It looks less clean, but might be worth it.
  21. I've been hearing rumours that the shootable cannons are banned in America - what a travesty! It also seems strange to me that they can shoot guns, but not Lego cannons.
  22. If I had to guess, I would say it was a connection point that never ended up being used. Maybe it was to hang a lantern etc..
  23. I couldn't agree more! Yet I couldn't agree less! Lego is always refundable (you can nearly always sell it for more than you bought it for), so you can never regret a purchase.
  24. The dragon archway is very nice. It's always good to see a crossover between two of my favourite themes: castle and pirates!
  25. Luckily enough, I found dark orange 1x2 tiles on the PAB wall quite a while ago, and 2x4 rounded tiles not that long ago.
