Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
strangely replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
You didn't really read my post. I was literally talking about how adults make the distinction (As in it's the adults who see Disney as it's classics and not it's modern successes), but children do not. To any child Disney is Disney, it's adults who create these distinctions of classic, renaissance, etc. Disney is made up of old and new simultaneously and often they mesh seamlessly as they are quite timeless. The Disney I grew up with is very different from what it is now. I don't think it's better nor do I think it's worse. When I was growing up it was a focus on the older movies and continuing their stories (I lived through the era of DTV sequels), this era is remakes and re-imaginings.The point of my post was that Disney will probably choose whatever is popular now or whatever franchise they expect to be popular. So I would expect that whatever Disney is currently pushing, whether old or new, is likely what will appear in this series. Peter Pan for instance makes loads of sense when you consider they have a popular television show on currently, plus Tinkerbell spin-offs and a live action re-imagining in the works. By that logic I think it's possible that we'll see some characters from the live action remakes appear too.- 4,155 replies

I think you're right. Looking at it again it seems like the ears have been painted a darker green. -

It's nice they're adding a couple more for this series, there are so many desirable characters in the Disney universe after all.- 4,155 replies

I like Gobby's face, hopefully the reverse face is just as good. It does match the style of the Juniors Goblin, so it seems like we'll have a decent amount of face options. Not a fan of the vehicles though. Some interesting parts, but the designs overall don't do much for me. Glad to see it looks as if Ultron will get a new torso, hopefully it's movie accurate. -
I am curious what color Harley's hair will actually be. In the prelim it looks nearly white.

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

Adults think of Disney classics, but honestly I'm not so sure kids see it that way. The Disney that kids are growing up with now is not the Disney I grew up with. While I prefer animated Disney classics for this CMF I'm not so sure that's what we'll get. I mean even looking at the Disney Princess line the majority of the princesses are current or from the renaissance. The princesses from the Walt era don't pop up often (we've yet to see Snow White) and when they do they're usually using those terrible 2013 redesigns. Cinderella has had decent exposure in the line, but none of her appearances even match the movie (her dress was not blue like that in the movie). I can't help but think this CMF will get some of the same modernization (which I'm really hoping against). There are some remakes I wouldn't mind getting characters from (please no Burton though).- 4,155 replies

I still think there's a a possibility, after all more than just the classics are popular today. Alice and Cinderella made an absolute ton of money. So I think any franchise that's made Disney a lot of money has a chance. I personally think the majority of the CMF will be animated classics, but I'd like to get a few live action remakes in their two.- 4,155 replies

I don't see why not. Live action is taking over Disney right now. Through the looking glass is a sequel to a billion dollar film, I tend to think there's at least a decent probability that they'll try cashing in on that. I think at least a few live action characters will make the list, but then again it's hard to say what direction Disney will choose to take this.- 4,155 replies

I'm fine with molded heads for human villians. However if they do that I would much rather they make the face printed and match the Lego style. I think they can make molded heads with standard faces and have them fit into the Lego look. Seeing that this is a May release I'm really betting on seeing at least a couple Alice characters considering that the sequel comes out that month.- 4,155 replies

Oh yikes, that printing is horrendous. Yeah, I'll go with fake and be done.

I honestly can't decide it they're real or not, the more I think about the less certain I am. Only time will tell. The lack of completely new prints and no back printing could just be for cost reasons I guess (Though generally this theme isn't so lazy with minifigures, so that is peculiar). For Batman in particular he's almost always wearing something that covers his back, so really I'm surprised they've included so many back prints so far for him (They're nice, but sort of pointless I guess). As for the Joker I could see them using a modified version of the Harleen Quinzel torso to imply they both work in the same place or so that there's visual symmetry between them, but for this one I do think the lack of back printing is suspect. Now that I think of it, the reusing of prints and lack of back printing could be due to a time constraint. Perhaps these were rushed into production and that's why they have an iffy design and quality to them. Who knows, DC might have suddenly demanded these particular variations and Lego had to jump to get them out in time.

Good to finally see the droid escape. My one complaint is that C3po didn't get arm printing or side leg printing like the polybag had (And unfortunately I can't just swap out the part since the polybag only has one gold arm and no silver leg). Great build though, looks a lot better than their last attempt.

Well... It's not bad, but honestly it doesn't look all that special. The Batwing or whatever it is looks okay, but it's not that interesting. The helicopter looks really bland. The minifigures look great though and even though the build doesn't blow me away it still looks like a nice selection of parts. Might wait for a sale though.

I really would have thought they'd have used dual molding for WW legs. Hair is just so-so. Really I'm shocked they did a new hair piece for her at all. I kind of wish they'd used that piece for Starfire...

I finally got around to watching it and honestly I'm hoping we see more of these specials. I actually found the quality of this special to be a bit higher than a lot of the other specials we've gotten lately. The environments were brick built (For the most part) and the writing was just about on par with an actual Scooby episode (Not as many jokes I don't think). Hopefully this does actually come to blu-ray, an exclusive minifigure would be nice too. I have no idea what an exclusive for this would look like as there weren't really any new monsters in it and the new characters featured were kind of bland. I guess they could always include someone who didn't appear in the special (Charlie the robot was in Dimensions, I could see them including him). I could definitely see them doing more of these. Perhaps our mysterious Mr. Brown is in a future special. After all they based this special around the mystery mansion and only included the monsters contained within (With different civilian identities of course). And the original press release for the theme did talk about multiple DTV, so perhaps the sets were planned to tie in with whatever DTV content they have planned.

I don't think it's an outright lie, but it's probably an exaggeration. I wouldn't be surprised if it were true for some products (As it seems some licenses are stricter in this area), but I doubt it for the majority of their products. Even if it were completely true I'd think they'd have a hard time policing that.

When they first introduced the dual molded legs that was exactly what I was hoping for. Even if they didn't I'd still buy the droid escape set (Because you can never have enough C3PO in your life).

I had a problem with things loading into the game, only the center portal would work. When I moved the cord it started to work again, so it was likely a short somewhere in the line that was effected by where in the room I had the portal sitting (or the tension that was on the cord). Jiggling the cord would cause it to work or not work. So it could be the cord. I didn't bother with customer service as it works most of the time, but if you can't get it to improve then definitely contact them.

So anotherwords we don't know that the minifigure will actually even have writing on it. All we know is that a drawing of it had squiggles. -

I don't see how using Brasso is considered damaging it. The piece will literally look exactly the same, just without the writing. Anyways is the writing even legible? To me it looks like generic scribbles, which in that case I don't see a problem. -

It's not that big of a problem. The printing can be removed yourself. -
Daphne actually has pink tights in that video. I do wonder why they didn't do that for her in the sets. I like that they used quite a few real bricks in the builds of the environments.

I think both are possible, but I also think they may want to keep the original version exclusive to the princess line. The 2015 one is a queen, so if not in the CMF we might not see that variation of her, so I'd rather get her now and get the classic version later. Plus the live action version is popular right now, so they may want to act on that popularity.- 4,155 replies

Of course it's not as iconic as the original, but it's popular right now. We've got a ton of mini-dolls representing the animated movie, I think it's only fair that the new movie gets a minifigure. Honestly I think the original Cinderella would look plain and boring in minifigure form (her mini-doll certainly does). I prefer the live action design because it's more textured and detailed and that's usually the makings of a great minifigure. And I don't really see how that'll date the series. The movie did well critically and in the box office. Disney will give it the same re-release treatment all successful Disney movies get and it'll be remembered in it's own way. Plus I get the feeling Disney will start a Queens brand soon as both Cinderella and Aurora became queens at the end of their respective live action ventures (I'm betting Alice will become a queen too as she does in the second book).- 4,155 replies
