Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
strangely replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
The shape isn't quite right for the majority of the Disney princesses, but in all fairness the mini-doll dress piece they use isn't really either (Frankly, I think outside of Merida and Aurora the piece hasn't looked that great). Ultimately I think the new dress mold is close enough they could use it. I think it's far better than using that terrible old slope brick which is too flat and too tall. The only real problem with the Queen's dress is it's too puffy, but I'd take that over too flat any day. Perhaps they'll surprise us and create a dress piece somewhere in-between the Queen dress and the regular slope brick. And if anything it could be for a 2015 version of Cinderella as that dress is definitely bigger that the Classic one. And honestly if they did include Cinderella in the CMF I'd kind of think they'd want it to be a different design than the mini-doll version, if anything so it doesn't diminish the appeal of the mini-doll version. On a side-note the new dress piece would be perfect for the Queen of Hearts.- 4,155 replies

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

Never used the service before, but for Nick Fury and Maria Hill I had to. Plus there were a few Star Wars pieces I needed... Seeing the cost of the individual pieces is interesting. I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the cost of the printed/dual molding legs. Site kept crashing when I placed the order, so hopefully the order went through. They did put a hold on my account for the funds, but no email confirmations yet. Does anyone know how long it usually takes them to verify these orders? -

Yup, I was suspicious of this list and then finally caved and thought it was real only last night. I should have known better and trusted my first instinct. That list looked fake. I love Tarzan, but I often suspect I'm the one of ten people in the world who do and then if that weren't enough of a tip off there was Mulan. I understand people love Mulan, but for the first wave of a Disney CMF I really didn't think Disney would choose it's admittedly lowest ranking princess on the current Princess roster (The one who's not royalty by any definition). Really I would have liked to have most of those minifigures, but it just didn't look like the line-up Disney would choose.- 4,155 replies

Ok, I'm convinced the list is real. Seeing those abominations is enough proof for me that they have the merchandising rights. I still think the list is full of odd choices though.- 4,155 replies

I don't think meet and greets are proof they can merchandise though. I really haven't seen any merchandise outside of DVD/Blu-rays for quite some time, so if they have merchandising rights they haven't been using them at all. And if this list is real this begs the question as to why they want to release Tarzan products now after a decade of nothing. Better yet, why is this only appearing in Lego form? It just seems strange that out of nowhere they'd give us characters from a franchise they haven't touched in a decade and in Lego form no less. But really Aladdin and Mulan are odd choices too, are either of those things on the rise right now? They just don't strike me as something kids are clambering for right now. Hopefully we get pictures or a better source soon. For now I remain skeptical of this list.- 4,155 replies

Parts of Tarzan are in the public domain, but it's kind of a sticky area. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20120228/18543417906/edgar-rice-burroughs-inc-using-trademark-law-to-prevent-use-public-domain-stories.shtml- 4,155 replies

Tarzan and Peter Pan aren't necessarily the same. Peter Pan lapsed into the public domain recently. As for Tarzan it appears the estate of Edgar Rice Borroughs still controls the license. Consider as well that not all Licenses are the same. Disney's deal will ERB may have been more limited. So it is possible that certain rights, like merchandising may have expired. And you're right, there's no official statement from Disney about the matter. Deep Jungle never did appear in any further KH games (Though it was planned to to be included at one point). Granted I suppose this could also have been the fault of Square-Enix, perhaps they didn't acquire the rights for this particular game. I'm not saying it's impossible, I just find it a bit suspicious. Maybe Disney does have the rights to do Tarzan products, I don't know. I just find it suspicious as it was not a popular movie and these minifigures are being released around the same time a competing film studio is doing their own version of the character (Even then I guess Disney could just be trying to make some money off a resurgence in the characters popularity). I do hope the list is true, as Tarzan is one of my favorite Disney movies, I'm just uncertain at this point.- 4,155 replies

I could almost believe this list, but then there's Tarzan and Jane. I'm not so sure about those two as I think Disney had licensing problems with those characters some time ago, in fact I think the rights reverted back to the original owner at one point (That was why Deep Jungle in the game Kingdom Hearts never appeared in any of the sequels). So unless Disney bought back the rights I'm thinking this isn't real.- 4,155 replies

I could see them accomplishing it with printing. After all Lego prints shorts on minifigures pretty often, so I'm figuring they'd do the same for beast. Who knows, if there aren't holes on the back of the Satyr's legs perhaps they can even print on the back. I don't see them using dual molding just because it would be a new mold for a piece that's already a new mold. Printing seems pretty easy in this case. Plus the head will undoubtedly be a new mold, so I think that would make dual molding less likely for the legs. I definitely don't see them doing a transformation for Beast if he appeared in the CMF. Really there's not a whole lot of reason too, his human form isn't that remarkable at all. There's many existing head/hair/leg pieces one could use to make a human version of beast.- 4,155 replies

It is strange Doomsday wasn't included, but then again these movie sets have always been hit or miss on including the important elements of the movie. On the plus side even if we don't get a movie version of him in some surprise summer set we'll probably get a comic/cartoon version at some point in the future. Just like how when they didn't give us a movie Green Goblin for Spiderman they gave us a crappy cartoon one (Though in this case Doomsday's design has been pretty consistent, so we probably would get something decent).

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion

I'm very impressed with this series. I am overjoyed to finally get a pig at a price point I can afford! And am super excited to get the skunk too, I really wouldn't mind if they regularly threw in animals like this (2 in this series!). I don't know why, but I love the astronaut. He's so simplistic and yet awesome! And they really outdid themselves on the Queen, Satytr and Ballerina. All the new molds are better than I expected (And more than I expected, I didn't really think we'd see a new mold for the Satyr). Love the color choices for the wrestler. Hope we get a few more in future CMF's. -

So after seeing the Satyr in series 15 I'm kind of wondering if we'll get Beast. The new legs would be perfect for him. Also the new dress piece is 2x4 and slopes in the back it seems. Makes me hopeful we'll get Belle and Cinderella.- 4,155 replies

I think Tom and Crow will stay the same for the most part, the various videos with the new cast have shown them to have a similar personality and in Crow's case even a similar voice to the previous incarnations. Admittedly it is a lot of change to happen all at once, but then I realized that MST3K had aired on three networks (KTMA, Comedy Central and Syfy), had four versions of the satellite of love (Interior sets anyways), two hosts, two voice actors each for Tom and Crow, Three for Gypsy, four for Magic Voice and two eras of mad scientists. Change is definitely a part of the show, for this era it's just happening all at once. It will take some getting used too of course. For me, ultimately I feel like this is a good idea for a revival. Riffing movies is a pretty timeless pastime and as a series it's definitely not dependent on always bringing back the same people. The only constants are the robots after all (And even in story there was usually a technical reason for their voice changing), so it's at least a series built to come back as needed (Or as wanted).

It could always come back. If sales were decent then there's a decent chance Lego will run another wave sometime in the future, there is after all a theatrical movie coming in 2018. Realistically I feel like this is a theme best suited to appearing on alternating years. While I feel there is more they can do with it I also feel it has the ability to get oversaturated quickly do to the repetitive nature of the source material. So perhaps having a bit of time between waves could be ideal for sales.

Based on the way it's trending right now we'll get to at least the six episodes. I personally think it'll go over the four million mark. But with the Turkey day marathon and more casting announcements still to come there's a decent chance of making it to the full season.

With the comeback of MST3K official (You can read the official statements here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mst3k/bringbackmst3k) I thought it would be a great time to start discussing the new show. So far I'm happy with the choice of new host. Jonah Rey seems like a good choice for host, granted I'm not super familiar with his work. He and the other new actors featured in the Kickstarter videos seem to fill the parts pretty well (Tom Servo will take some time to get used to). Hopefully it'll hit its stretch goal and we'll get an entire season of episodes (Only $3.3 million to go for a full 12 episodes!!!).

To each there own. I ended up building it in LDD just to see how it looks and for me the arms being asymmetrical looks like the broom is in mid stride, so that works for me as I'd prefer an action pose, plus the arms would be able to move. As to the standing I'll say even a good deal of the animals fall over easily (the dogs in particular) and they're rather short whereas the broom would be tall with arms and buckets, so I don't think it would balance that well. I can understand why people want a new mold so it would look exactly like it appears in the movie. However if we did get the broom it would be an accessory to a minifigure, so I don't know if they'd want to make a new mold on a broom which can be easily built with existing pieces. I guess it doesn't matter though. The broom was only suggested because Lego made a new mop piece, so if that's not intended for it than I doubt we'll see the magic broom anyway.- 4,155 replies

I'd think they'd have problems with the 'legs' of the broom. If it had a split that wide it would likely fall over. The mop mold does seem to have a slight split on one side, so perhaps that's as much as they could do without sacrificing the ability to stand. As the arms I realized it would be easy to do them without any new pieces. If Gangalf's staff is used as the broom handle than they'd just have to include these: and they'd be able to hold the buckets. So ultimately with all that weight up top the bottom of the broom would undoubtedly have to have a good amount of clutch power to maintain balance. So I could see them just using the new mop mold as it seems designed to cling to a stud, whereas a broom head with a split probably would not clutch very well.- 4,155 replies

Well, I don't know if they could create a wide split in the center (Like in the movie) and still have it stand steadily, after all adding a broom handle would probably affect it's balance and weight (Especially if they add the arms and buckets). So they might have not been able to do it differently for risk of it not being able to stand. I mean the mold itself does have a tiny split on one side, that may have been all they could do and still retain the standing capability. I don't really want Fantasia Mickey regardless, but I think there's definitely a possibility just the same. -

It would be pretty neat if this series included both variations of Cinderella. I could see this broom being used with a Fantasia Mickey. When I first saw it that was what I thought of anyways as the piece seems to be able to stand on it's own.- 4,155 replies

I could see that mop appearing in the Disney series too.
