Last few days I've been working on a motorized version of the Bugatti Bolide using the .io file @Void_S posted earlier (thanks again!). I wanted to do the motorization by adding a diff, a Buwizz 3.0 + monster motor and a PU L motor for steering, all without impacting the looks except for removing the HOG. Adding the PU L motor was pretty straight forward. It increased the existing gap that's between the dashboard and the front hood but later I found a nice solution to close this gap again. To add the monster motor and the diff I used the same design as in my 8865 New Jeep MOC. It's very strong and doesn't suffer from any gear skipping. Fitting this required some changes on the back side but none of those change the looks. Adding the Buwizz 3.0 was the hardest, it's quite big and I tried to many ways to get it to fit. In the end I found a nice way to hide it well, this did require the removal of the seats and also some minor changes to the sides: the yellow door panel had to be moved one stud outward and half a stud backward. It think this looks pretty good actually, perhaps better than the original. Additionally I had to change the two bottom new panels in front of the rear wheel with a single old panel but that's it. Using an Lego Buggy motor doesn't work, there's no space for the PF connector it requires. I don't have the set yet but I built it all using my own parts and made it so all connection points for the new panels are there again. All panels are fixed at least as well as in the original design except for the aforementioned yellow door panel which is only connected with a single pin now. Here's 2 work in progress photos: It drives really well and when it's fully built you don't really notice the motorization which is exactly what I was trying to achieve so I'm happy :) Especially the cabin is still nicely spacious. I will be able to build it with the real set parts soon, I managed to order it somewhere and it has been shipped. I did already finish the virtual model and will make free instructions available once I can test the full build and instructions. Thanks for reading and hope you like it, any feedback is welcome! Here's some renders of the model:

[APP] BrickController2

Now that I understand how to 'work around' the lack of auto-calibration I'm actually quite happy with it. The lack of convenience is compensated by the extra precision of the manual calibration. In other words, it's great if you add auto-calibration but I hope it will be optional. 😁- 1,310 replies

I've now uploaded the instructions for this trailer, see https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-128291/mla2/big-red-truck-trailer A linear actuator sits inside the gooseneck to tension the trailer when it has to carry heavy weigths such as a Claas with batteries. I wasn't able to avoid all bending but the clearance is fine.

I now realized there's any easy way to get the manual steering calibration working for PU motors on a Buwizz 3 in Brickcontroller2: First you setup your MOC ('Creation' in the app) without doing any calibration. Then before you activate it the first time (using the green play button in the app) you disconnect the steering from the motor. Then click the play button: Brickcontroller2 will now reset the motor to 0 degrees without being limited by the available steering angle. Once it's done reconnect the steering and voila, calibration done without any damaged gears because 0 degrees was in some unreachable position. In hindsight this approach seems kind of obvious but I thought I should share it anyway. Do note that since it requires disconnecting the steering you should do this as soon as possible instead of waiting till you built the entire MOC.- 1,310 replies

I've now added free instructions for a remote controlled version to Rebrickable at https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-127664/mla2/big-red-rc-truck. This motorized version uses a Powered Up L motor for steering on the front axle and a Powered Up XL motor for drive on both rear axles. Also a spare tire was added at the back of the cabin. Additionally I've finished designing a Big Red Trailer which increases the length of the truck to 107 cm (42.1 inches). It's a lowboy trailer with a detachable gooseneck and is able to transport sets like the 1.6 kg Claas Xerion without problems. As seen in the photo the truck can hold a second spare tire for the trailer as well. Once the instructions are done I will upload them to Rebrickable as free instructions. A linear actuator sits inside the gooseneck to tension the trailer when it has to carry heavy weigths. I wasn't able to avoid all bending but the clearance is fine. Hope you like it and any feedback is welcome! Here's a demo: :Later I also plan to do a version compatible with the Mack Anthem. I call it the Big Mack Trailer The only difference is a slightly lowered gooseneck since the Mack is a smaller truck.

Thanks, that's good to hear! I've now also found a model of the original on https://fogeyman.tistory.com/1320 and made a comparison render. I didn't actually build the original myself so it's interesting to see :) -
[MOC] 42139 AT-Bucket Hot Rod
mla2 replied to mla2's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've created the virtual model and some renders. The part count is 610 parts. -
I'm currently on a hiking vacation in Norway and for the rainy days I brought 42139 with me to try and make an alt for it. Initially I wanted to do a certain crane but I quickly found the available parts didn't allow this. After this the chain elements made me want to try a hot rod with a chain sticking out of the engine as some kind of belt drive. Luckily the weather has been quite good but I still managed to make a hot rod I'm quite happy with. It looks a bit like a T-Bucket style hot rod, but an all terrain version hence the name :) It has HOG steering concealed as an engine part, a lowered front axle, pendular rear suspension, openable doors and a nice looking interior. The engine has four very large exhausts, and drives the chain. Below are some pictures I made. Hope you like it and any feedback is welcome. When I get home I will do the virtual model and free instructions. I estimate it uses at least 80% of the sets parts.

I've turned the 8258 Crane Truck from 2009 into a Big Red Truck which is 41 cm (16.1 inches) long and 21 cm (8.3 inches) high. I started this project since I very much like the look of the Crane Truck's cabin but also wanted to reuse the parts. So I removed the crane and shortened and lowered the trailer bed. Additionaly I made various improvements such as making the doors openable, replacing the seats and also hiding the blue pins on the cabin and fifth wheel without using expensive pins. This is the result: Comparison with the Crane Truck: Instructions and more details can be found on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-118259/mla2/big-red-truck/ Thanks for @hrontos for sharing a digital model of the original Crane Truck in the LDD models thread!

[APP] BrickController2

It doesn't have auto calibration for PU motors on a Buwizz 3, right? I couldn't find it when I tried using PU Large motor as servo on a Buwizz 3 in the latest app version. I did get the manual calibration to work but still had some troubles afterwards, it doesnt seem return to center as accurately and quickly as with the Buwizz app.- 1,310 replies

GBC General Discussion
mla2 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've created a GBC which turns the 42130 BMW Motorrad into a Motorball GBC and can be built using only parts (including spare parts) from the 42130 set and comes with free high quality instructions available at Rebrickable. This GBC loops on itself and is not a module. The GBC uses all of the special parts of the Motorrad: both big wheels, three disc brakes, all three special shock absorbers, the full chain, two of its zip lines and even the windshield. This GBC uses two main units to lift the balls. The first is built using both wheels. The idea of the controlled input comes from a video by Phil L, and the custom universal joint from a video by 2in1 Bricking. The second module is a stepper with an attached control center for a minifig. The whole thing is powered by a repurposed version the BMW engine, but can also be powered manually or using any Powered Up or Power Functions motor. It can be seen in operation in this video: Hope you like it!- 1,124 replies

True. Do also note that low battery warnings interrupt play. So actually the first time it will stop working is when your battery reaches 20%.- 1,310 replies

Brickcontroller2 for iOS just was updated and you can now choose servo mode for PU motors on a Buwizz 3. With a PU hub this was already possible. It doesn't work in the background.- 1,310 replies
