I really don't see this as a CUUSOO project. Maybe you can sell the plans though .. but best to build one first Not too fond of that switch arrangement. It'll wear out too fast

ETF HTX-380 Mining Truck.
1974 replied to Saberwing40k's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You should get a girlfriend then Seriously, those rubber thingies look very interesting. Did you BL them or did you buy them directly from TLG? Sorry for the OT Also, are the ETF trucks real? Quite amazing concept -
Or try this : http://letsbuilditagain.com/instructions/0850/ There never was any instructions for other than the forklift and the levelling thing (complete with illegal tecniques).. I know, 'cause I had a hard time building the others from the pics. Must have 5 or 6 years old back then Oh, I have fond memories of this set. My first Technic! So advanced, so many wierd bricks, pins and whatnot. And gears man

Lego Technic 2h 2013
1974 replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
allanp, your LA vs pneumatic tirade is getting tiresome (And btw, cranes do not use penumatics , they use hydraulics) 2H is looking good Did anyone find a price for the mobile crane? When is 2H usually available (preferably in the EU)? Can't really wait - 902 replies

Wunderbar! But I think you should brace the crane arm with 1x4 + 1x4 + 1x2 plate. it'll look better/fatter and be more stable to play with (important for my mocs, maybe not for yours) I'm not sure I follow you on the forklift? Looks wonderfull and stable to boot All VERY nice, I'll have to moc it as my son screams 'buy buy'!! Also, exellent photos! And a petpeeve of mine - I do not like those those sidemirrors that adorn every new LEGO truck. Just too big, imho Lastly, why is there a telephone on top of that .. 'thing' ? (Something I hear from my kid everytime I try to use 6190 in a moc )

Yes, rather ridiculous comparisoon there, Dluders. Akin to something like thirdparty boobs on the missus I'm not sure it's a good idea that TLG made those IR parts. LEGO is never gonna compete with proper RC cars. Some folks have made rather speedy cars/badass rockcrawlers. But I do wonder what the LEGO parts look like after some moderate use I have a 20 year old Tamiya buggy that _really_ have seen some action. It's still in pretty good shape today LEGO is not made for that. At all That's why the real LEGO RC cars are not made of bricks/beams

Well, if people are willing to pay that amount, I guess the price is right I luve those baseplates (have 20 of the last one, more 200 in total, not all raised though) and I find them exellent for making large layouts. Now, I'm more of an old scool kinda guy - recently made a large 3 x 5 (32 x 32 studs baseplate) egyptian/Johnny Thunder MOC for my kid and those raised baseplates really nailed it But I know they're not popular amongst the more advanced builders. Each to his own, I guess Sure you can get good money on ebay (not BL though), but they're a pain to ship

LEGO's Jabba's Palace, Star Wars, and accusations of racism
1974 replied to ticktockclock's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Kids mimic adult behaviour. When adults are no longer killing eachother in wars, kids will stop playing that too I'm confident that kids in the middle ages were playing with wooden swords and neolithic children was throwing small spears as well Such is human behaviour So they don't have a point. Especially with the first point, I'm quite sure there have never been more toy weapons than now One funny bit I read though is a complaint that some of the (LEGO) characters in Jabba's Palace looks 'too much' like local folk and thus mocking them .. pretty neat the GL could foresee that in '83 I wonder if TLG mailed them a DVD of 'Return of the Jedi'? -

Worst Technic Sets of all Time
1974 replied to Rishab N's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
855 was my favourite! Do you think you can make a better crane with those parts and with that piece/money limit? And combining that with a hacked up 850 + some spareparts, you had one EPIC Technic set. Shitloads of functions. I luved that much more than my 8860 Wasn't until '81 with the likes of 8844 that Technic (eh, Expert Builder) really to a new step (and then again in '84 with pneumatics) Those early sets REALLY gave us plate'n'brick builders something to wonder about. Perfect for a kid born in '74 -

If I got that call from TLG, I'd tell them to stuff themselves! I spend enough on their bricks (and they even spend money in my company to boot), but this is outta line, really If you bought that item in US (or whatever - outside the EU) AND have paid the apropiate taxes, they have NO business interfering with your private sale (at dba.dk?) at ALL. None what so ever This is for private citicens though, what TESCO did has nothing to with the OP. TLG is just sticking their nose into something, they shouldn't It's TLGs own fault. They have different releasedates according to how they think the world is divided. It makes no sense that the EU have to wait eight months to get Galaxy Squad, when it's freely availabe in the US (also see Space Police III) This is not 1982. We have internet now Also, would like to add that TLG have the best customer service I've ever encounted, so it's not sour grapes from here, only TLG, get with the times, drop the different release dates, it doesn't make sense in this globalized world thta we live in

How much do you spend on Technic?
1974 replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm getting that t-shirt! I'm a newcomer. It's been two years since I've come out of my dark period. Last time I had LEGO was in 1990. Last set I bought was in 1987. All my old LEGO (and that is just about ALL Technic set from '77 to '87) is gone down the trash In two years, I've spend probably more than 20k$, a fifth on Technic/Technic realted BL orders .. Haven't bought any 'legacy' sets (yet!), only new ones like a load of Unimogs etc ... so many new parts I've never seen before. Wonderfull -

ETF HTX-380 Mining Truck.
1974 replied to Saberwing40k's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very futuristic looking truck! Power Miners does Technic (I'm actaully working on thing like this myself) But I think you'vee chosen the wrong wheels though? How about 20 Unimog wheels instead? Would be killa (and expensive to boot) if you do it in lime -
LEGO's Jabba's Palace, Star Wars, and accusations of racism
1974 replied to ticktockclock's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Dailyfail Yeah, it's true that Jabba is not portrayed in the most flattening maner. I await the Hut class action lawsuit Anyway, they're just selling papers and rehashing what GL have been taunted about since .. oh .. '77? What I'm REALLY waiting for are all the feminazis complaining about CITY (well all LEGO 'cept Friends) is aimed solely to boys and thus is 'unfair', 'too masculine', 'fvcks up gender roles', 'and contains not enough pink' ... afterall it's been like this since TLG started, right? Newspapers .. if they didn't contain ink, I'd use them in the toilet -
I'll try that then. I live 30 meters above ground, enough? I have a love/hate relationship with these suckers. Yes, they can fit anywhere, but they're so low torque and gearing them down just makes them slower than a snail! I'd kill(*) for TLG to make a small PF motor that attaches directly to an LA (*) .. time, kill lotsa time ..

Old Technic sets losing value?
1974 replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
LEGO electric parts are very durable ('cept those micro motors) which is a testament to TLGs high quality manufacturing. I've bought loads of old electrical parts (jus about every kind, including those old 3xDD train wagons), never had a dud ('cept two out of fifty micro motors). I got no experience with old pneumatics, but I would not be totally shocked if the hoses don't hold up too well. It's (synthetic?) rubber after all. Just bought a load of fiberoptics, all works as if new I'd be more concerned about parts that see a lot of stress, like all parts used in suspensions (<-- but again, I've not seen anything in the stuff I've bought) The only LEGO parts that I do have seen wear in is old castle minifigs from the '84-'86 era. While they look like new, arms and hips are way too loose Corrosion on LAs are interesting .. I do wonder what that metalrod is made of? -
Antonov AN-140
1974 replied to Carsten Svendsen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't get this project at all. If you're so keen on making the Antonov (or any other RC plane), LEGO is not the bits to use. It be like trying to build a car out of wood onlyl. Try joining some RC fora and listen to them I'm sure you can make a really nice display model though Also, you're gonna use non LEGO servos, control, motors and skin. All is left is a very heavy and poor frame that's gonna buckle once, if ever, it's in the air. And I also think you have to glue the lot just to get it airborne. Even if that works (and I think not), you can't really call this a LEGO airplane Wrong (and expensive to boot) parts for the job, imho Not going to wish you good luck as luck will not get it airborne. Science will. And science says no .. Sorry to sound negative, but I think you're really barking up the wrong tree Edit : too many speilling mistakes, sorry .. -
What type of plastic are Technic elements made of?
1974 replied to Carsten Svendsen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I sell heatshrink for a living. I would not try to make a skin over beams/liftarms/axle(joiners) at all. While ABS have a melting point of 105C, they go soft before the heatshrink is in place, especially if the LEGO parts are allready somewhat stressed (as in your project) Find some other skin, imho -
I've spent some time online searching for 'material handler' as I'm not too satisfied with the 42006. Many seems to have the ability to raise the cabin and if it's not to be tracked vehicle, there's quad outriggers. The whole lot could be pneumatic/RC controlled and be in scale with the 8043. So that would mean at least three big pneumatic actuators, three to five small ones, a motor for the compressor and another or two for the drive .. quite a flagship, no? And of course another colour than 'yellow' (which by TLG terms means anything as my 42006 is all over the map, sigh) (Sorry, couldn't find better pic) Also, I like all kind of weird forrest machinery .. lotsa possibilities there too
