This is interesting I'm on a process of 'unyellowing' bricks (have not done so yet, but my partner in crime hase succesfully restored a 8880 - and I got loads of old light grey bricks waiting, using the wellknown 'oxy' trick) So, are TLG still (I'd think so?) using that flame retardent chemical in the new grey (well any) bricks? In short, do I/we need to do this trick again in 5/10/20 years?

I also remember seeing colours in LEGOLAND/Billund that I couldn't find in sets, tan being one of them (I was there many times from late 70's to late 80's .. I should dig out some old photos)

Moc 8858 studless remake
1974 replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
True Actually, I think the original bodywork on your chassis might be the winner -
Dark grey was used for castle helmets (1979) and 12V train sleepers (1980), allthough regular bricks didn't show up until 1998

I don't use any of that stuff at all. This is a LEGO forum, not a general brick building forum. It's clearly stated here (in the member guidelines) : "Remember: Eurobricks is a LEGO fan site, thus we want most topics here to be LEGO related. If you find you are posting mostly non-LEGO topics then maybe you have picked the wrong site. (Just to clarify, M%g^ Bl&ks aren't LEGO....)" Anyway, too much chatter Can ES (and a mod?) not clarify the rules etc and the clone discussion can be moved elsewhere (there's too much of it in the train section allready, imho)
-
Sounds fun But have you talked to a mod about this? I really don't see the point in using clonebricks. This is a LEGO forum afterall. I'm sure that crap have their own fora. I'm also not much for modded/custom parts or digital, but it's your rules Two months would be great How many entries can one enter? Hope you're feeling better

The LM317 is shortcircuit and thermal protected. With a pair of diodes it's also protected against (to high) reverse voltage, which could happen with two controllers in parallel (worst case is only one looses power). There's no need for a userservicable fuse inside the controller. The only place a fuse should be is on the primary side of the transformer. and this is probably a onetime thermalfuse
-
Just remember, it's a standard linear regulator thus the wattage displaced will be around 50% higher using the full 1,5A. i'm not sure there's enough colling for the LM317 inside the controller? However it would be fairly trivial to replace it with an LM338K + suitable heatsink (outside the controller) and new transformer/bridge rectifier

He could be working at a place that sells LEGO or know a LEGO retailer. In the business I work in (electronic components) I can get parts 20 to 90% below retail price and yes, I have sold stuff on ebay that I didn't need So, even though it has a price tag of $142.99 it does not mean he actually paid that amount

Also noted in the article - No other toy manufacturer earns as much as TLG. Their biggest competitor, Mattel earns 51/100, compared to TLG's 71/100 (The article comes from a quite reputable source, so I do believe the numbers) I do not want to piss on TLG's succes and their importance to Denmark. Billund was a just a tiny city before they started and they build the airport as well. They have created many thousands of jobs and returned billions in revenue (and many more in personal income tax). TLG LOOOOVE Denmark and they'll never move the (core) production outside Denmark, I know But they are pushing the price of sets a wee bit too far, imho (Edit, spelling mistakes)
-
Quite a lot I'd say .. (Article in danish, sorry) : http://www.business.dk/detailhandel/saa-meget-er-lego-vaerd Everytime TLG sells a set (*) worth 100DKR they make 71DKR. And that is after production costs have been deducted (*) I guess that means "100DKR" to the resellers, not "100DKR" shopprice .. but still .. The company is estimated to have a worth of 100 billion DKR, about 20.000.000.000USD Revenue in 2007 was 8 billion DKR, today about 24 billion DKR They will never go on the open stockmarket (and thank you for that!) It's a biz. They want to make money, I understand. But I do think they're pushing it a bit too far We can aford it in Denmark, But I have family in Portugal. LEGO does NOT sell down there, simply too expensive compared to other brands not worthy to mention I'm a LEGO loyalist. 100%. But I do think it's getting out of hand Discuss?

Alternatives for rare pieces?
1974 replied to Rishab N's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, it's expensive, 'cause it's rare. And it's rare 'cause the demand is high and it only came in a few sets. Quite simple. If you don't want to pay for that part, you work around it. Either choose another colour, if possible, Or do something completely different (with the same outcome) That's the way it is will all LEGO bricks Other rare parts that are crazy expensive are the rader dish and boat rigging for the UCS MF. That'll set you back a REALLY good diner with your luved one. Of course you could just buy the nonprinted/not grey versions for a song + spray can (for the rigging) AND still take the missus out for a proper diner Demand and supply. Quite basic, really -
A big machine idea
1974 replied to Carsten Svendsen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is the world's largest land vehicle. 215 meter long, 95 meter tall, about 13.500 tons. Convert that to minifig scale, it's 5,4 meters long, 2,4 meters tall. Weight is unknown as steel don't easily convert to plastic Well, you got a lot of beams left over from that non-flying airplane anyway, so I say go for it! Also, it does not carry it's own power source, but needs 17MW (that'll be around 30.000 rechargeable battery boxes in minifig scale!) supplied from an external source .. (Cables must be fat as h3ll??!!) Most awesome machine. I'd luv to sit in that control room and push some buttons Lastly, it can fill 2400 train wagons a day, so there's another project for you to MOC -
