  1. Yeah, we keep hearing that. Must be some quite different boys who play with Playmobil then Oh, wait - it's not Maybe city/fire/construction sells because that is the only type of (City) LEGO that actually is for sale. How about that idea TLG? Let's go a wee bit back .. back to 1983 : Just look at that diversity! .. look at the accesory sets as well .. there's even a yellow castle to boot And NO, times have not changed that much. Nor have kids. I used to be a kid, I got kids, I know kids and I've worked with kids. They'd dig it all I really think TLG is missing the boat here
  2. Only _the right_ MISB might tell us that. I feel like I _did_ see that version in real life but it may be my imagination playing with me What I DO remember is that when we didn't have those shockabsorbers (no BL back then!), we _did_ use that pic to make our own. And that actually inspired us (us, being me and my other 9-10 year old friends) to go scavaging (that is destroying a lot of other non-LEGO toys and pencils!) for springs that could fit on an axle. Ohh, what wonders we turned out (<-- guns, that's right!) I guess it was developed with springs'on'an'axle and then some of the part designers figured they could do it better .. and then no-one told the marketing/instructions department .. Would be cool to hear from some of the old TLG dudes from back then Also, we used to build a lot of bodies for that chassis (too bad it sagged with double wheels). It was kind of holly to us (the predecessor was not). So we weren't exactlly all that impressed with the next to come (the red and the black one). More functions didn't rule my 9-10-11 year old world, looks did Same thing with girlfriends to come
  3. Thanx for a great review Please take a good look at this pic again : What's wrong? (Yes, that's exactly how I used torn apart pencils to create those shockabsorbers .. funny how that prelim pic got in the manual ..)
  4. I've looked at a lot of BL/Peeron stuff (mostly catalogues) and sure, there was a healthy CIty development well into the late 90's, I dig a lot of that (bought plenty, through BL, too). But I was growing up, LEGO was somehow not part of that. Silly me Then (I'm sure we all can agree) it all went into pure rubbish and surfaced again sometime in the mid 2000s. Mostly great vehicles, not a lot buildings and just the RC trains. Should have peaked right now, and it sure did with the Modulars, but City is still somewhat empty. Just a tall white house with a pizza corner and a bus Another (sub)theme I really liked as a kid, was the post/mail stuff. Where is that now?
  5. But TLG allready made one with the 7939 set? And there's the old 8 wide one (which only really works if you do 8w trains). Anyway, a tanker is probably the easiest to MOC Nice idea, but I really think that trains are mostly bought by AFOLs (or kids approaching). And they all know about BL, so they tend to MOC their own. Or are just happy with the rolling stock TLG provides with the trains. If one have bought the RC/PF trains, one would have plenty of different cars I guess TLG is right, there's no sale in stand alone rolling stock But that's no reason not to provide decent buildings like 7838/7839 etc I think what we can expect is complete trains in the next years. But if we shout enough, we might just get the track packages we want!
  6. Well, lightningtiger (and everybody else) The reason I'm dissapointed is that TLG have given us such MANY lovely sets for City in the past. And now it's all turned into only fire/police/construction .. and if there's a building, it's a boring 8x16 whatever thing .. Cool buildings are Creator and/or Modular for some reason I'm sadden by the fact that CIty have turned into only fire/police/construction vehicle theme As you all know LEGO was only City (town or whatever they used to call it), you know daily life with all it's doings. Space, Castle, Technic, licensed stuff came much later City is where it began. But the City is dead. Only filed with cops and robbers. And a lot of fire I guess (no houses to burn though) One used to be able to build an ENTIRE city just out of LEGO (no MOCing!), you had it all from the burgerstand, to the cottage house, to the family house, to the public works, to the gas station, to the garage, to the racetrack, to the marina, the port, various fig packs, trees, signs, little cars/trucks etc and what not .. and of course the police/fire station (but they were not the only main sets of a year) And you could see it all in one catalog! Whoha! That was awesomly inspiring for a kid like me. And I know it is for my son too as we like to go through dads old shit (And he wants me to buy all that stuff, it's getting rather expensive this BL thing ... ) All that could be completed with a vast amount of trains, tracks and assorted buildings to boot! You had _everything_ (But if you want _everything_ today, MOC is the only way to do it. Bad way to sell a product, me thinks) That was FUN! I'm old, my heyday was from '78 to '89. Back then we had all sorts of luvly buildings and various vehicles. I miss that I really do Also, I think there's been a lot of great vehicles in the last five years. Next years offerrings are no better. No development So, I'm dissapointed. Last five years didn't give me that 'city feeling', but at least there was cool vehicles. Not so this year I guess I'll only be BL'ing that dark blue train window and the new fire ladder .. (Lastly, I'd also like to teach my son about daily life in _my/(our)_ LEGO city where there's very few fires and robbers. Just like our real life) Sorry, if I've strayed to far of the topic, but I just had to let it out ...
  7. By 'us' you mean MOCcers? But we moc because we can't buy Fouteen years ago was a period where LEGO was not part of my life. But looking at BL it's quite easy to see why none of those sets command a high price on the secondhand market. They suck. Hard But the 2013 City vehicles pales in creativity compared to City sets from the last five years and yes, Chima (and Ninjago too) (And so does the 2013 Technics and SW sets as well) I didn't ask why there are so many firefighter sets btw. I have become custom to expect that. I would however ask, why is there no FORREST fighter sets? That would be a good excuse to do a new firestation When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut. Who want's to see fire, destruction, death and so on? Not me, not any of my friends Especially not when influenced by the most exellent space sets of that era (1978-89)! (And Starwars!!) Lasers rule over a freakin firehose anyday
  8. But it doesn't have any engine, so those points are mute me thinks This year looks like a massive investment ... on Bricklink What a dissapointing year (so far), there's really nothing I want to buy! The last 4-5 years TLG have put out a lot of neat sets and I guess I'll have to stock up on what I dont have City looks very lazy, just rehashes of the last years output. Couldn't have taken a TLG designer more than one month to put that lot together .. sigh All creativity seem to have gone into that Chima theme ... And everything cool (buildings in particular) in the City is now (and have been for some time) labelled Creator City is dead. Long live Fire, Police, Construction and Traffic
  9. All in fun. You make the most outstading steamers, Tony I do think the HE is as good as the Emerald. The passenger car is just as good/advanced if not better and the loco is what I'd expect a TLG designer to come up with if he had the same budget as the Emerald
  10. It's not only compression, I've seen mosaics where the cheeses etc are actually not connected to anything, just hold in place by gravity. That probably wouldn't be legal? I'd love to see examples of similar trains with better build noses. I've searched MOCpages and Brickshelf and all I've seen is really not good. Imho that is
  11. Have you seen a better LEGO version of the beautifull TGV? It's nice to see something modern instead of boring ugly antiquated american steamers I never pay full retail for LEGO. But I would if I had to Have you got a link? There will allways be similarities when two designers choose the same source. It's LEGO, it's quite limited, especially when trying to design a nose like that
  12. I don't mind the flex, but just take a look at any (large) train setup, be it LEGO or not, the majority of tracks used are straights. I don't believe the urban legend that TLG moulds the curved and straights together, so let us have them in packs of eight or whatever Haha, I was thinking Sebulba's podracer too! As far as I can see all the orange parts come in yellow as well
  13. The train you can get for the same price, the 7938, is not in this league at all. That is the price for the track and PF parts The face is because TLG only mentions the much more expensive 8878/8887 combo instead of the much cheaper 87513 option I'm very happy this train comes without track or PF parts. I got all that covered and I really hope this is what where gonna see in the future. This way makes _much_ better trains We just need some decent track packages, sigh
  14. You can see some of the white 1 x 1 plates with clips attached in one of the interior pics. The snotted windows are nice but unfortunally too low
  15. There are no PF components included as far as I can tell. TLG just want you to buy the rechargeable box + charger
  16. Yeah, with no track and PF stuff price seem to be very fair indeed!
  17. Ahh, the facebook link explains everything! WUNDERBARRRR!!!! Best TLG train ever
  18. Nice Edit : Doors? Strange bogie configuration
  19. Coll vids! Why don't you use current limiters (low resistance NTCs)? That way stalled motors won't burn out Also, very nice music, reminds me of Thievery Corporation
  20. This looks like a beefed up TS3, sorry I don't get your idea? (I've seen you do much better MOCs, btw) What is 'a post apocalyptic world'? It seems so undefined? Anyway, as a techhead I could make an electric+combustion engine train, not sure I'd want to dabble with steam. I could make the e+c train with a mechanical gearbox (allthough that would be quite inefficient compared to modern IGBT controllers, as those might be wiped out in the 'great EMP stroke' .. (<-- which I think would happen in that 'a post apocalyptic world') Also, I don't see much 'diesel punk' here, more like .. hmm .. ordinary steamtrain? Edit : I don't know what 'Hunger Games', 'Fallout' & 'Rifts' are so I may just be and old fart talking out my behind - sorry Neat idea with a sidemounted tank though
  21. I'd say yes! It's got zip to do with town, it's targeting another demograhpic and it's probably gonna be quite huge. TLG has put a boatload of money and brains into this (and it looks like it's paying off) so I think it could be as big/important as some of the other subforums (it doesn't take much to overrun the scifi section anyway) So, whynot? If this forum was created in the mid 80's I'm sure we'd had a Fabuland forum as well
  22. Ahh, but those dealer catalogues are indeed confindential. If a dealer shows those pics to an enduser, he/she is breaking TLGs rules, at least that's what I've been told by an official LEGO dealer While it may not be the case for those LoC pics, it's quite clear where Klaus-Dieter has his info from. I was making a more general statement on the leak issue I'm sorry if I got all that mixed up Anyway, I'm all for that if TLG don't those pics out, we (again, EB/staffers AND forumites) should honour that _even_ if they're out on various shady sites But that's just imo, of course
  23. Hello staffers! I want to create a thread; "1974's trains" with all my MOcs instead of spamming/creating new threads each time I come up with something new So, is it possible to edit a thread/main topic over a long time, say years? Is there a 'timeout' for editing in general? Thanx in advance! Cheers, Ole
  24. Well, Kim is a TLG ninja now and given his track record here, I think we should honour his/TLGs request, right? But erasing links on the internet is a lot like trying to get rid of redwine stain on a white dress The only problem I see here is that _dealers_ are showing CONFIDENTIAL catalogues to endusers. Not good at all. TLG should do something about this, I think Also, some of the pics might be prelim and TLG may do some touching up so the pics are _not_ what we might expect in the shops. This again, is a TLG problem. It's their pics, don't want them on the 'net? Don't make them Anyway, in a few days/weeks, this is gonna blow up and you can see all the pics on hundred of blogs/forums But EB is the prime LEGO forum for a lot of EU/US users and if TLG don't want pics, we (well, the mods/owners) remove them as we like to stay in a good stance with those darn bricks makers from Billund, right? That's fair play, no? Sure, I'd luv to see the new stuff, but I can hang on for a few weeks, no worry. I'm still gonna buy the lot. No need to piss off TLG
