Yes, it could look like a cover to Insectoid light/sound thing, but it has anti studs on the bottom like a regular plate. Fits the era though. The finish is not very good on it. I'll try to see if I can get some back story about it but I know many of the parts he got was not made during his time at TLG but (many?) years before They we're just dumped in buckets that the employees (or at least some of them) could by for next to nothing Hit me with an email again regarding trade Cheers, Ole

You mean the opposite. Try building a MISB set from that era and compare it to todays plastic quality and lousy colour coherence

Potential Questions for LEGO Designers
1974 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Correction to my post, ALL Technich axles (inlcuding the milky white ones from 70's) are softer than regular ABS, But types like the 3L with stop and parts such as the 2791 are even softer That's just one reason why the cry for more powerfull motors are a no go. Both the XL and the buggy motor can easily twist those axles and shred gears. More powerfull motors could probably create so much frinction that the're would be an actual fire hazard One burned up baby and TLG would be toast (pardon the pun) -
Today's lot : A tan octagonal plate that fits with the 6037 series, a brown smooth slope, an unprinted brown shield (unfortunally a bit damaged ), a brown 2x2 turntable and lastly a 12L orange Technic axle I got a center slope for those end pieces I aquired some time ago. A nice part I think : A wicked sword : And finally one of the most Whiskey Tango Foxtrot pieces I've seen in a long time! It's trans neon, not trans yellow. Looks like an entire spaceship by itself Enjoy Cheers, Ole

Got the wierdest anti freeze space part, a cool sword and a plate version of 6037 today Pics later ..

It may be, but it's not mine You're right, it's not that rare. Funny thing about that shoulder yoke (the thing the purple dood is wearing) is that is was made decades before the bucket was introduced. And I have no brown buckets to go with it Cheers, Ole

It may come as a surprise to you but many TLG employees are also AFOLs. Some of them bought loads of stock from TLG back then. It might be different now, but back in the wild pre 2K times, it was pretty much "eat all you can for 10 bucks" sort of thing Notice all the european BL sellers with huge stocks of rare parts? All pre 2K parts .. TLG was a VERY different company back then. You're not likely to see the same flood of current parts in "off colours", nor wierd new prototypes parts All the parts, 'cept the Nexo sheilds, are old school parts made 20-30 years ago for some set/project/park model TLG never realised - or in my case - prototypes that never made the production stage for one reason or the other .. Cheers, Ole

Yeah, I'm particularly happy about my two 8855 props (that's NOT glued to a 24T gear with a Technic brick in between!) in light grey. I've used those in a bunch of MOCs. A very nice part that TLG could have sold easily as a "service pack" and gotten their payback for that mould. The 8855 prop was never used again and it's the best large scale prop TLG ever did. What the funk were they thinking? zux, not sure if you've seen these, but here they go (orange is not my colour, nor is purple - they'll go to BL sometime in the future) : Cheers, Ole

Potential Questions for LEGO Designers
1974 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Technic parts (and clips) where some of the first LEGO parts to be moulded in anything but the standard ABS (yes, there where odd trees and 1:87 vehicles before that), but it didn't get widespread before the clips (4085x) in 1980. The softer Technic parts started in 1988 with the 2791 rack and with axles in 1995 with 3L stop axle 6587. And since then a load of "soft" Technic parts have seen the light. A wise move, imho TLG can even mould soft parts into hard ABS now (61406x) in the same part! Cheers, Ole -
Some of this you might have seen before (yes, I know the black 2561 pirate musket is not rare, it was a brainfart on my behalf), perhaps in the Monty Python LEGO Movie I'm about to get a new shipment tomorrow, but as always I do not know what I get. I'll keep ya all posted ... Cheers, Ole

I actually think that's rather on point. If we're to give critique of this set, we also have to point out what could have been better/different. Don't you agree? And 4WS. THAT car is the ultimate Porsche for me. And if they did as a rally version (easier for TLG as the suspension has much higher travel) with Rothmann styling (probably a no-go in todays PC enviroment) I'd be on on it like an SW fan drooling over a 10179 remake! Here's my 500EUR - take it! (But I'd want proper suspension, 4WD/WS and nice interior styling + 80's style box with inlay tray and flip up lid. You can ditch the coffeebook TLG) Cheers, Ole -
The SR71 Pull

Point of this hero worshipping? No, I've _never_ bought any parts/MOC designs (from anybody) etc because of Eric's contributions/Technicopedia To me, Technicopedia is done, as I only work with studded LEGO/Technic But I DO love that site! And for that, I've sent Eric one of my special/one of a kind/impossible to get/ LEGO prototypes, just so he has to buy yet another shelf to display his many wonders .. (Eric, please send those those plans to that Mars rocket as we agreed about, I'm ready to go now. Gf is waiting and I've allready said goodbuy to my pet hamster ..) Oh, it's BLAKBIRD, btw Cheers, Ole -
Lego Technic Fast Car
1974 replied to Technic Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
(Front) suspension is still pointless. Drop it (and your back supsension too), make it 4WD and you'll even go faster! Which seems to your point with that MOC ..- 15 replies

It's impossible to tell looking in the original catalogue. The photo/print resolution is very poor. It could just be custom pinted plastic (not actual 32x32 roadplates), but I don't think it's a brick build road. The rest of the scenery looks like something the picked up from the local hobby shop in Billund Cheers, Ole

You can buy +50 @ BL for 0.02EUR/each. That shoudln't blow ya budget, no? Ahh, the joys of classic studded Techninc. Axles are black and everything else is light grey with a smattering of fancy dark grey here and there -
Fixed it for ya. You can all thank me later

This is just a typical day at EB, sigh. Bad programming. I do not see this at the +20 other forums I frequent (some of them have a lot more members/traffic than EB btw) Too easy to sign up here?

Lego Technic Fast Car
1974 replied to Technic Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Suspension isn't working/doing anything at all ... You could probably switch those (front) shocks with a solid liftarm and the result would be the same (but then you could simplify _and_ strengthen the entire chassis a whole lot more) Cheers, Ole- 15 replies
