Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I do hope it's LOTR themed and not Hobbit, or a blend of the two. It would be far better for the budget to go on the build and/or unique figures from the Shire that we wouldn't normally get. A dragon firework and Bilbo's birthday party would be fun to include, although at this price they'd have to do it as separate components rather than on a single base, so it may be outside their design scheme. -
And they would look better. This looks nice. It's way better than the Mercedes and a nice refinement on the McLaren. But, a bit like the 1:8 supercars it's all a bit too familiar. By the time they do the 2026 or 2027 version is will probably be perfect. Unless there is something clever we're not seeing in the photo, I suspect I'll stick with just the McLaren, even though this does look better. It's too much money for not enough experience.

LEGO Speed Champions 2025 rumors/speculations
RichardGoring replied to Bartlomiej's topic in LEGO Town
Are you sure it's two pieces? The kick up of the visor at the joint doesn't look like the classic visor? Or does it? The lip around that joint does suggest the visor can move though, which is interesting. Although would also make it fiddly to add in, as you'd have to do it from a certain angle and then lower it into the helmet. What is the age rating for these?- 135 replies

It makes sense that this is the set they'd do. I'm so pleased they chose Rivendell first, as it's such a good set and beautiful model. I wonder if/when they'll do the other large locations? Good news that a smaller set will come, and I hope it's not more BrickHeadz, but either a cool diorama or a good playset with new figures. -

I did once consider trying to make the cat's mansion as I love the colour scheme and it looks great. Never got further than idle pondering, but still might try to make a custom modular based on it in the future.- 5,909 replies

Could Simpsons line of Minifigure series or Sets return?
RichardGoring replied to Vitruvius's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's a MOC of a news stand that's similar to, but not the same as the upcoming GWP for modulars. They've used a Simpsons magazine in it, but it's only a fan MOC and nothing official. -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It looks like there is a line in the white band at the bottom of the windows where the roof and half of the walls (not including the windows) will lift off. So it will be a partial floor with full access. If that's the case, it will probably be for roof stability? I hadn't noticed the stairway. It will definitely feel small, although that's also probably in keeping with the kind of building it is. Should mean that it can be almost standalone without needing to connect to anything else. The interior is going to be pretty cramped though. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It's in the bike carrier. Is it a new colour for the kitten? Looks like tan to me. Also, would they have two kittens and not a cat in the set, I wonder? Every time I go back to the UK, Greggs is my first stop to get a sausage roll. But then I go to Poudland to get chocolate buttons to bring back with me. It's the 20th building. Cafe Corner released in 2007, so Boutique Hotel in 2022 was the 15th year. But would have been the 16th building. Market Street (also 2007) is counted as a modular, so Boutique Hotel was actually the 17th building. 18. Jazz Club. 19. Natural History Museum. LEGO Modular Buildings Collection | Brickset ETA: Sorry, didn't see the second page of comments which had a similar reply, before posting this. I think this looks awesome. It definitely feels like it's moved up a level in terms of detail, and now matches a lot of MOCs or a chunk of the other brand modulars that are cropping up everywhere. I love the colour scheme (the dark green and dark red are especially good. The bustle and life that it shows off are wonderful. Can't wait to see inside and whether the detail continues. Having said that, it really does seem like a very different feel compared to the others. Is it just because of the subject matter that it's so detailed, or a new step in the modular evolution? It also really doesn't fit with a lot of the other buildings and I think it will look a little odd next to them. But the Downtown Diner did the same thing, and it was the set that got me into modulars, so I hope this is a huge success! -
Having pondered it a little, I think I'll for the Gold Mine Expedition and Outlaw Forest Den, assuming the final designs and prices aren't dramatically different from expectations. I like how both look, that they seem to be reasonable on the parts front given how large they are, and that they have clear play features built in (my kids play with most of the LEGO we have). These were the only two of the five that I voted for and my mind hasn't changed since then. I wonder if they'd ever consider doing a MOC Pop-Up instructions store for the others again.

Sequoia Tree Trail is an interesting choice. Another big one at 3035 pieces. 21 inches/54cm tall is interesting! The tree foliage seems too small. I wonder if it will be possible to add more to it, or if the designer will add a bit more in the finalization process. It might be that it's due to trying to mix very different scales. Outlaw Forest Den (Wolfpack) is last. BrickHammer is a great designer, and this looks great. Not just a simple blocky castle, which is good. Might not be overly expensive at 2452 pieces. Some nice sets chosen, but there were so many stunning designs and interesting concepts that haven't made it, which is such a shame. It was a really strong range of options this round. I hope some of them are resubmitted for the next round.

Off-road adventure is nice as a small build. At 859 pieces I worry that it will end up quite expensive for what it is. They said that it's linked to the Camping Adventure from series 3, which is neat. All the terrain looks lovely. I hope it's fun to build and doesn't feel fiddly. Gold Mine Expedition is a lovely looking model and I love the use of red in the build, the little decorations, the detail on the trees, and the full-on scenario that really seems like it should encourage play with some cool functions. Shame that's is likely to be super expensive (3570 pieces). It's not going to be priced as a kid's toy, but I can forgive it some of the high piece count because it deliberately includes play functions. I wonder if it will feel too big though?

The BDP series 6 live stream is on now, if anyone wants to see the winners of series 6. First one is The Art Factory. I do love some of Brickester's designs, and have bought his previous sets, but this one didn't excite me as much as others. It doesn't seem as detailed or interesting as other designs. Although the piece count is only 2499, which explains a lot, and it's nice that it's not another 4000 piece 'modular'. The windows look good and I like the dark green roof. He's just said on the stream that he will do some updates as a few surprises in the final model too.

I've only ever used Minifig Scan and found it generally reliable. I think maybe one code that wouldn't scan. Perhaps four or five that have been slow to scan. I did a pick up at Kohl's yesterday that gave me $15 in Kohl's cash and used it to get three more figures. Best Buy had some for 25% off so I got a few more there. At this point it's just for the parts and mixing up different configurations, but I was pleased to have the app that meant I didn't get five Ladies of Pain, which I would have otherwise picked up! I got one and then a mix of others. I think I'll miss this series when they're gone, but I need to tell myself that I have enough.- 686 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I considered that version. I thought it was one of the nicest available and I liked how it was more in-line with traditional modulars. It would definitely be worse for adding more to it. Looking forward to seeing the new MOC! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I built five floors of the SitComplex. I was excited to try it and incorporate some interesting interior sets into a single building. And while it was fun at first, it became tiresome and now I am trying to find the time to dismantle it. All the exterior builds are pretty similar, so it wasn't that exciting to build maybe half of each level. The interiors were great, but once done, you don't see them much again. It was great and far better than I could manage on my own. I'm pleased that I did five levels, but also pleased that I stopped at that before getting any more. LEGO has said that people tend to value the exterior more than the interior, and while I really enjoy the interior build, there are some who equally say it's an inefficient use of pieces. While LEGO would undoubtably sell some of a modular skyscraper line, the opportunity cost would probably be pretty high, compared to a unique modular building each year and adding something new that will sell in vulgar numbers to the same AFOL market as they'd target the skyscraper at. Also, for what it's worth, the current modular buildings still follow the pattern of the middle floor being expandable. So in theory, if you like the style of the building, it can be a skyscraper. There are a number of people who do exactly that. It's then up to LEGO to come up with a modular building style that fits your view of a skyscraper. -

Still a standard part in the US. And also out of stock. It would be fascinating to understand how they handle all of this. -

Yes indeed it will be interesting to see how their mechanics work. But I'm also intrigued as to why they have this part in production at all, given that it was for a limited run of a single GWP. Or, will it come in a set in the near future that they are already boxing up? -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
They're definitely in a lose-lose situation because people want both. And it's almost always the crowd that's disappointed shout the loudest. In our sample size of two, I prefer the first approach, because modern parts, techniques, and design aesthetics have moved on so much from some of the originals. And most of these nostalgia sets are more focused on build and looks than play, so taking advantage of newer ideas is beneficial. I can totally see it the other way though. -

Oh, well that might suggest they've run out of stock at Bestseller and may now be selling off stock from Europe as standard?
