  1. It's a nicely impressive dragon that can really terrorize a castle. The classic one is good for play, but the brick built new one looks much better to me.
  2. Nazgul torsos and gorillas back in stock on Pick a Brick. Just ordered some. Thought I had missed the Nazgul and it was just left over stock. I wonder why they are still in production?
  3. So, just wage a 20 year campaign to make your animal of choice a LEGO meme and then they'll bring it back. We know how to work the system now!
  4. The build of Boutique Hotel had me laughing out loud with joy in a couple of places. It was so clever.
  5. I do like the Shadowbox, but not $400 enough. I was hoping it would be a heavily discounted item for Black Friday, but it looks like it's already sold out. Oh well. It had better not be microscale! I've not liked the Marvel modulars generally because they all seem too small compared to the figures. I think the Icons modular line is far better scaled to a minifigure. Yes, I know that's impractical for the towers, and, to be honest, probably all of them, but I saw this on Reddit the other day and it looks so much better by comparison. Yes, I also realize it would probably be $600. This is my interpretation (not finished yet ) to the X-Mansion all design by me in stud.io including the minifigis : r/lego
  6. It's such a shame the mouse hasn't come back. And I do wish the flamingo had been available more widely too.
  7. Agreed. They're not particularly interesting to me either, which is a shame, as previous years have generally had great options at this time of year. I wonder if they will do decent sales this year?
  8. Nice idea. I got a cheap copy of 75336 to do the same kind of thing. Also still haven't worked on it yet.
  9. Good point on the laser cut. I bought some third party sails from eBay for Barracuda Bay that were torn/tattered in a jagged pattern, like these - They were laser cut and so suffered from the brown edges. I didn't bother me for those, give they were supposed to be ruined, but it would likely be irritating on new, crisp, colourful working sails.
  10. Placed my order for the Botanical Gardens and got the Bookshop modular DLC (40698 Books Are My Passion), which will hopefully be decent to mod and mean that the Bookshop modular actually features a decent number of books!
  11. Exciting! Mine arrive tomorrow, but I am leaving for a week away tomorrow, so it will be delayed further for me. Really looking forward to the mushroom house, and future village. I saw someone pair it with 31154 Forest Animals squirrel build and also the insects from 21342, and it all looked great together. Oh, here it is: The Mushroom House incorporated into our whimsical forest display : r/lego
  12. Such a shame, as the GWP is a really nice little set, and I would absolutely buy it. But the main set doesn't really do it for me.
  13. Yes, completely. I was poking a little fun to be honest. I agree that the production numbers are probably pretty close, and the huge number of excellent, but expensive, LEGO sets available on the market, combined with the Bricklink sets now releasing every six months or so, suggests getting close to peak LEGO. Also, the fact that they are all made with current, in-production pieces, with potentially only an exclusive sticker sheet, means that it's pretty easy to part together the sets. And using Pick a Brick, it's not massively more expensive than the original set price, which also puts something of a ceiling on resale price. I only ever buy sets to build myself, although I did end up selling a few of the first round Bricklink Designer Program sets. With the ordering mess up they had, I ended up with two copies of Castle in the Forest and three of Pursuit of Flight. I didn't want to call in and try to change the numbers in case it cancelled the order, so I sold the extras and also the LEGO Store modular, which I wanted to like, but in the end really didn't. I sold them locally to a guy who wanted two copies of all of them - one to build and one to keep sealed. I wonder how many of these sets end up being built, compared to kept sealed in boxes. I don't really understand the desire to do that, but I won't complain about it if that's what brings people joy.
  14. I feel kind of sorry for the Lost City. But hey, about 10,000 sales is still decent. Will also make my copy that much more exclusive than all the other sets this round! Although I'll also build mine, so an open (and probably recycled box) won't actually mean anything to anyone.
  15. It's definitely not a real job, but it can be very lucrative for those who make it to the top of the pile. I do admire some of the LAN members. Racing Brick is great. He's on this forum and very active. Has been doing it for a long time. I like the reviews and the break downs. Where it's Technic or cars, it's clearly his thing. The move to reviewing the more popular sets that LAN provides doesn't always hit the mark, but his recent review of the 1966 Batmobile was great, as he pointed out a load of stuff that I hadn't seen from others - mostly negative. I do wonder whether a lot of the skepticism for LAN content is because they are all generally so positive. But these people are generally LEGO fans, so like building block models. The sets are generally very well designed, otherwise LEGO wouldn't be such a huge company. And the complaints you generally get are about colour consistency, stickers, and price. They do sometimes call that out, but it can get a bit old, because LEGO clearly isn't going to change. And on the price, even the non-sponsored reviewers generate enough money from views to not worry about it a huge amount. You probably want people who have a strict, limited budget to provide an opinion on that and whether it was worth it compared to something else you might get. But that's not really possible. And if it were, it would be hugely subjective. I wish more of them would speak about the building experience, what they liked about it, how it might fit with other things, potential mods that lead to a decent comment discussion. I've never really understood the reviewers that only look at it as a final model and don't even build it themselves. They're missing out on so much of the total value. I do like JANG for this reason. He goes through so many aspects. The build, the parts use, the history, the way it might fit with other things, the different considerations of value.
  16. Back on topic, I'm curious why people are interested in the sails of this ship, rather than custom making or getting from a third party. My take on preferring LEGO is for the quality, fitment and finish of the plastic elements, all being consistent. These really don't change that much over time. But cloth parts change frequently from LEGO, and don't have anything like the tolerances of the plastic elements. I don't see the value in sticking to only LEGO for these. Why do you? What value does it bring?
  17. List is posted in the other thread here:
  18. Those are awesome! Great work!
  19. Added to the BAM towers or to Pick a Brick online? ETA: Oh, you added that in the other thread. Coming to PAB. That's great news! Thanks!
  20. Photos are out on Reddit. My initial impressions are mixed. It's not Minifigure scale, which is fair enough, but, unlike the Titanic, at this size of ship, some of the LEGO element sizes cause the scales of various parts to feel quite different, and it jars with me a bit. I suspect seeing it in more detail will help with that. Also, the masts and sails feel a bit too small, but I'm not familiar with the original ship, so it may be accurate. What say the knowledgeable sailing crew?
  21. Looks like the small red bird is coming to BAM for Christmas. Good if you want to try and collect a flock of them.
  22. I have seen it and can confirm all of this is true. Also, they've used the wrong colour for the building. In other news, the BTAS Batmobile is finally on sale at Amazon US for 20%, making it $48 and only very overpriced!
  23. Yes, it could well have to do with part manufacturing capacity availability, but also possibly shelf space in stores. BB was a pretty large set, taking up shelf space that they wanted other new large sets to take up. I also agree that it was very confusing. I had the LEGO site refreshing every day for about two months, maybe longer, waiting for it to come back into stock!
  24. No, that's been out before. Not sure of the sets, but I ordered some from PAB, maybe last year, or earlier this year?
