  1. I don't know if things have changed on this front, as they have changed other aspects of the program, but they originally said you would be able to buy them. https://brickset.com/article/58428/lego-launches-the-bricklink-designer-program-and-reveals-31-projects! --- What will happen to the designs that don't reach the crowdfunding goal or are not among the thirteen quickest to hit their goal? The remaining projects in the crowdfunding phase that don't become BrickLink Designer Program sets will be sold as digital building instructions only, so that you can still have an opportunity to find your own bricks to build them. How are fan creators compensated for their ideas? Fan designers will receive a 10% royalty fee for BrickLink Designer Program sets, while designers of Digital Building Instructions will receive a 75% royalty fee. --- But I can't find this information on Bricklink anymore. So it may be changed. But would they scrap the idea of compensating the designers?
  2. That's the kind of price I thought. Probably the higher end. There are some large pieces, although it's mostly hollow, so hopefully not much more than that range.
  3. You can see the revised model here - https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/designer-sets-for-adult-fans-of-lego/215385/Train-Station:-Studgate Personally, I prefer the new version with the garage door pieces. It looks more in keeping with the architectural style. They wouldn't have had such big windows back then, like the original. The plan is for any sets that don't get made, the instructions will be available to purchase. But they've not said anything about the sets that do get made. The implication is that the instructions are only going to be available to those that have bought the set. Isn't that the same as with the last program?
  4. $5 something each.
  5. But would they put 4x very expensive deer into a single $100 set? The previous ones were brick built, so much cheaper.
  6. I suspect it's a combination of many have already got theirs and the 1 per person limit. But if they opened up another 5000 castles they'd probably go incredibly quickly once more. The three existing sets all hit the original 5000 limit much more slowly than the other two. The designers have all been given a set of currently in production elements to work with, and are having to redesign around those. What's the out of production piece in the train station? Is it significant?
  7. Yes. There was one in 10229: Winter Village Cottage. https://brickset.com/sets/10229-1/Winter-Village-Cottage
  8. Fair points. Although the Saturn V is a metre long, so really large for a LEGO set, and yet it's dimensions mean it can achieved at that price point. If you try to make a 1m long Titanic, it's going to require a great deal more pieces. More like the UCS Star Destroyer, which is also crazy expensive and too big for many people to fit. I'm not saying that I disagree with your point that it's too expensive, probably too large, and a shame that it's out of reach of many. I was thinking through why LEGO may have done it.
  9. It could well be because there are enough people who will buy it to make it profitable, and something of that size also generates a lot of PR that a smaller model won't, which then helps to sell other sets. If you halve the size, you probably wouldn't get more than double the sales, and you lose the PR. Possibly.
  10. Just a representative picture.
  11. Awesome, thanks for the insights. When we move I may consider the space and whether it will fit, or look to get a large Technic set and some of the new Creator Expert sets. They're releasing so much good stuff at the moment.
  12. I can see that being the argument for why pieces should be cheaper through PAB, but I don't get how some are more expensive.
  13. Also good points, thanks. Whilst I think about it, does anyone understand the pricing logic between Bricks and Pieces and Pick a Brick? I would have expected Pick a Brick to be cheaper, as it's a limited selection of parts designed for larger/bulk orders. And yet there are instances where they are cheaper, the same price, and more expensive, which just seems really odd. And it's not always a small difference. I've seen maybe up to 30-40% difference, in either direction. It sometimes feels like the pricing is a random number generator, but clearly it's very deliberately set.
  14. I know, I know, this is going to be one of those impossible to answer, it's a personal decision things, but never-the-less. I'm not really a Star Wars fan, and think Episode I is the best movie - honestly - and light sabres are cool, but have no strong feelings about it. I don't have any Star Wars sets. But I keep being drawn to the 75252 UCS Imperial Star Destroyer and thinking it's really cool. It looks great, is very well made, and is certainly imposing. For anyone that's built it, is it a really good experience and were you satisfied with it, or would you recommend getting three other amazing sets instead? I normally enjoy the larger builds from Creator Expert and Ideas. I'd appreciate any thoughts or insight. I've watched several videos that are all really positive and enthusiastic, but figure that folks here might be slightly more objective (or perhaps not). Thanks so much.
  15. Fair enough. And yes, I've been doing the 'seed part' approach (great term). It's actually quite fun going through the particular Bricklink store's inventory to see what I can add to the order I'm going to make anyway. I cleared one store out of animals (mostly Friends stuff), as my daughter loves them. And some interesting minifigs and prints too.
  16. Not sure what it's like in Germany, but the seagull says out of stock in the US.
  17. Possibly quite the reverse. This StoneWars article says that they're going to retire the piece this year. https://www.stonewars.de/news/eol-steine-teile-2021-d2c/ Will it be the next goat? Or will they bring it back again?
  18. That would be great. Sounds like the guitar will be pretty big, and if it is only black, then a bit of a shame. I was hoping they'd include the pieces to recolour it like the original submission. But that would probably be far too many pieces to include that are 'wasted' once you've built it. $250 for Home Alone also gives them plenty to work with to enable all the play features, which I'm sure they could do really well. Very excited to see it!
  19. I've only been getting individual pieces for the last year or so (always sets previously), and I have wondered why Bricklink is always recommended over direct from LEGO. I rarely find parts that are significantly cheaper on Bricklink, and by the time you pay for postage, it's cheaper from LEGO. Much cheaper if you have to go to multiple Bricklink stores. It seems to me that Bricklink is better if you need to: Get a lot of the same piece. Need something old/out of production. Need something quickly. I've only used Bricklink a few times to get out of production pieces, but otherwise through LEGO seems better. Have I missed something?
  20. I really like the ice cream saxophonist, fairy violinist, and all the pirate ones. My daughter loves the cat keytarist, banshee singer, and candy mermaid.
  21. Thanks! I wanted to try and incorporate it over the diner and car wash at first, but it's too heavy for anything other than column support, and this was the best place to make it visible. At some point I'll put it on an angle. Probably when we move in a few months.
  22. The more I look at some of these, the sadder I get at the fact that some of them likely won't be made. They're so good.
  23. If they split the remainder into three rounds instead of two, they would probably have to reduce the number of sets produced from each round. Their original intent was to make up to 15 sets. Five are now accounted for. And given the delays for round 1 sets and even longer timeline for the round 1a sets, it might be 2023 by the time they can produce additional sets. Also, it would mean that only four of the remaining sets likely wouldn't get produced, so at that point, why bother limiting it to a certain number? It should be everything that reaches 3000 orders. I don't care for Bionicle (that is, no feelings about it either way), but many will say that the set wasn't anything close to Bionicle. It was a very large System set (about Bionicle) rather than the classic small Bionicle set, that they loved. And I would hope that LEGO would realize this. However, I don't think Bionicle is coming back because of the moulds.
  24. I have the Ideas Treehouse in my modular line up, nicely paired with the Parisian Restaurant. There's nothing like a tree towering over you to set the mood for the diners! ;) PXL_20210521_200609105 by Richard Goring, on Flickr
  25. You could get the Ideas treehouse for a really big tree that takes up the space of a building... ;) You could incorporate the bonsai tree, the apple free from Medieval Blacksmith, or even something custom with the Winnie the Pooh set? But yes, I agree. It would be nice to get a detailed scaled tree.
