  1. If you encounter an error such as /usr/bin/env: 'python3\r': No such file or directory, you must switch your editor’s “line endings” setting for the file from “CRLF” to just “LF”. This is usually in the status bar at the bottom. For help, see our FAQ page. Solved the issue, thanks to the Python Language Bindings for ev3dev. So, I just ran my first program! Victory!
  2. I have setup VSCode, installed the extensions and downloaded the program. When I run it...VS states /usr/bin/env: 'python3\r': No such file or directory The first problem I encountered. Let's see what's wrong.
  3. Now, I will follow the VS Code Hello Python demo.
  4. STEP 5: Connect to the EV3 using SSH I have downloaded Putty and now I am trying to connect to the brick. Connected to the robot using login robot and password maker. STEP 6: Choosing the Programming Language Since I have decided to go with Python, I will be using the Visual Studio Code extensions.
  5. STEP 4: Connect to Network The first thing I tried was connecting to my Wifi network, using the Netgear WNA1000M Wireless N USB Micro Adapter. This one wasn't compatible with the default EV3 firmware. Works like a charm with ev3dev Too bad it isn't available anymore. Does anyone know if this one will work too? Could get this one too.
  6. STEP 4: Boot EV3Dev Booting....which will take a minute and....done! I really wish the LCD was backlit btw, but that's a different discussion.
  7. It's definitely not the best looking car in this picture, but it's okay for the scale it's in. And we haven't seen the rear yet. I guess I'm easily satisfied That they are indeed printed What @Jurss is trying to point out, is that the sticker isn't placed correctly. But I think it has to do with angle of view.
  8. I am looking forward to building the sets and seeing them in real life. I love the Porsche and I do like the Corvette as well. For a car in that scale, I think it worked out nicely. Reading the comments, it's the same record over and over again....I hate it....I hate it.....I hate it....I just bought it because it was on sale and now I love it
  9. Nope. There are internal issues at TLG regarding informing fan media and shipping out sets. They are working on improving their internal processes, but in the meantime all we can do is wait.
  10. STEP 2: Download ev3dev-stretch Next step is to download the proper version of ev3dev. Make sure to get the stretch version, not jessie. Check out the getting started section on ev3dev to follow the steps. I will be working with ev3dev-stretch-ev3-generic-2018-08-06.zip STEP 3: Flash the Micro SD Card I need to download Etcher from their website and install it, in order to flash the card. Done, that was easy.
  11. Usually stickers are not used for curved parts, so it makes sense that they are printed. I do hope we get full whites at some point. Ordering them separately would be very good customer service
  12. When you look closely at the image, you can see a clear difference between the white (and grey) of the sticker on the door and the arch. So I do think the arches are printed....unfortunately. Whoopwhoop! I need can use those for in my robot(s)
  13. The Porsche looks very very nice! I love it. Can’t wait to build it.
  14. STEP 1: MicroSD Card My first step was to get a new microSD or microSDHC card. All the cards I own are 64GB and the EV3 brick only supports a max of 32GB. I purchased the SanDisk 16GB. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to continue installing Python this evening, so I will probably continue tomorrow.
  15. LoL Let's stick to the current title.
  16. Nice! I like the proof of concept. Maybe we need to change the title to reflect what this POC is about.
  17. Recently @MajorAlvega created an interesting topic about ev3dev, a Linux based operating system compatible with Mindstorms EV3. One of the possible languages for programming the software for the brick is Python. I never paid much attention to Python as a potential language to do my EV3 programming. However, it has a very big pro, which is the option to use Visual Studio Code as the IDE for programming the brick. In this topic I will share my experience with you. I will try to maintain an index in this first post. LINKS EV3 Python V2 ev3dev.org ev3dev-lang-python documentation vscode-ev3dev-browser vscode-hello-python Micropython DISCLAIMER I know the official name is ev3dev, but I will also use the term EV3Dev.
  18. Thanks Major! This is very useful and interesting information. I don't really object 15 to 30 seconds for startup, but it can be cumbersome when you are still developing the software. I will take a look at micropython. Regarding the sdcards, David Lechner states "So, based on my results, the clear winner is the SanDisk Extreme." Well, I just bought one of those cards, so I'm good I decided to create a new topic for my venture into the world of ev3dev and Python and I have turned this topic into the General Discussion topic.
  19. Can you imagine if we ever had a flying machine competition Exactly! That sounds like a reasonable and valid conclusion. A Ferrari sells better than a Red Technic Car. And once you get the Ferrari, you will want the Lamborghini as well.
  20. Nice work! Glad you could use my photo.
  21. I think I already asked, so sorry for asking again; does ev3dev support daisy chaining? I can remember reading that the Python version does support daisy chaining. And I see that Python can be run in Visual Studio Code, which is a big plus for me. So, maybe I need to dive into Python after all
  22. I am about to order some SDHC cards. Can I get cheap 8GB cards or is it better to get cards with higher write/read speed? Usually I would go for the better ones, but since I will be needing four cards, I like to know if it actually matters.
  23. I'm not sure I'm following that comment either
  24. LoL Sounds great! I just bit the bullet and started my ev3dev project. And I immediately faced an impediment. I onlyl have 64GB microSD cards
