  1. I am a very happy camper. Basically, I created my own Helpdesk I sure hope more people will find this forum in the future. And maybe it will get a boost when a new Mindstorms sets is released.
  2. I will make the last statement even more clear than it already was... Other 3rd party parts are not permitted.
  3. Oooops....not February though. Deadline date is Monday the 28th of January 2019. Contest will be closed on Tuesday the 29th of January, OR LATER. I was in doubt. It was allowed in the previous contest, but I don't want the emphasis on blinking lights and sound effects. I was thinking about excluding the SBrick and BuWizz too, but they are pretty much integrated in our Technic collection nowadays and they are more or less replacements for the usual PF elements. Yeah, sure thing! Yup, I did...for an hour or so
  4. Sweet! I will definitely try it out. Not sure when, but I will look into it. So much interesting stuff happening in this forum Shall I split the MQTT discussion into its own topic?
  5. I was starting with my own broker on EV3, but I got some permission errors. So I changed to test.mosquitto.org which did work....sort of. I tried every variant hehe. But no worries guys. Yesterday was my first deep dive into MQTT, so I need to learn the ropes. I will do some more testing and share my experience.
  6. There is also https://pypi.org/project/paho-mqtt/. Not sure which one is better for my projects.
  7. Have you used Mosquitto for MQTT? I have been playing around with it, but I can't get my first message accross. O never mind....I just sent my first message. Not sure why it is working I was going through these instructions: https://www.instructables.com/id/Installing-MQTT-BrokerMosquitto-on-Raspberry-Pi/ When I use this command: mosquitto_pub -h test.mosquitto.org -t newtopic/test -m 'Hello' I sometimes get the error that -m is an invalid option. And sometimes it is working. I had a feeling it has something to do with copy-paste from the interwebs, because the behavior is erratic. But now a command that previously failed is also working. Strange.
  8. Sweet! I love the way it "catches" the rope and starts climbing. Very cool.
  9. Okay, spaceshuttles are allowed. I will simplify the rules, because I am getting a bit tired of the usual endless stream of questions to find the egde cases of the contest BUILD SOMETHING THAT FLIES IN OUR ATMOSPHERE....WHATEVER. Good luck!
  10. It explicitly states that a something like the BMW model IS allowed.
  11. I am not looking for "Devices with pronounced lift surfaces". I am looking for planes, helicopters and maybe drone If they fit the rules, they fit the contest LoL
  12. To quote the rules: "we are not looking for futuristic unrealistic scifi designs". To quote the rules: "Gliders, yes (as long as they don't need another vehicle to get them in the sky" Just add some engines and say it will be able to fly
  13. Rockets are not automatically Saturns, but can be ICBM's etc. But I would be happy to exclude them from the contest, since they are not what we are looking for anyway.
  14. "The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who...looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space...on the infinite highway of the air." We have started a new Technic Contest....and it's really taking off
  15. The two smaller sets are from my own collection, so they go back to my own collection I have a collection of smaller sets I use for prizes, so we will probably see these in raffles of future contests. Or maybe I will use them for a second raffle this contest. Who knows Yeah, we need to be as diverse/unrestrictive (is this even word?!) as possible. I am definitely cool with Kites. This is definitely what I am aiming for. I already stated in the OP that we don't want spaceships. But we need to find a way to make the scope of the contest very clear. Kites, yes Gliders, yes (as long as they don't need another vehicle to get them in the sky. So no spaceshuttles/orbiters but you can make one of those triangular gliders which you use to jump of a mountain) Spacecraft, no Spaceshuttles/Orbiters, no, since they need another vehicle to get them in the sky Rockets, not sure, but I would say yes, since they are self-propelled and they fly SSTOs are Single Stage To Orbit-Spacecrafts , yes Ground Effect Vehicles, yes Hovercrafts, no
  16. Yeah, the orbiter is definitely a glider. And a rocket itself.....can be seen as an aircraft....LoL It's a difficult isssue. Maybe we should include all of these machines (including rockets), since they are designed to fly or glide. This will also allow orbiter like machines and one manned gliders etc. I don't see any harm to include them and make the contest more interesting. This will nullify my previous statement about being able to fly by itself. What do you guys think?
  17. Hehe, you guys never cease to amaze me As long as the vehicle is able to fly by itself without auxiliary propulsion (e.g. a rocket or something similar), I am okay with it.
  18. I am okay with Ground Effect Vehicles, since they are akin to flying machines. I am not okay with Hovercrafts, since they are more akin to boats (imho). (I know they are not, but I would probably allow this in a boating contest instead of a flying contest) This
  19. I recommend building a Technic Aircraft for this contest
  20. Hehe going for the raffle prize I hope it helps the less skilled or experienced builder to feel less intimidated to enter and have a better chance of winning a nice prize. PS I still need to make a promo image, but I didn't want to stall the contest.
  21. "The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who...looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space...on the infinite highway of the air." Good luck!
