[C-model] 42106 - Pullback Vehicles
Kostq replied to Tomik's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
From this topic I still haven't built the heli, the hovercraft and the steam engine :D. For the buggy - front suspension is ok but it is easily dismantled. Some longer axles and spacers to limit the sideways motion could be beneficial./or maybe I've worn my 3L axles with stop out from moccing that set/ Otherwise - it runs so smooth! And with the lower part count it's quite fast. It bugs me that Lego doesn't do this suspension on regular pullback sets. Feels great to see it in action. I guess the rubber isn't that durable for this, but who knows. I've built the truck today and I've liked the linkage between the second set of wheels and the I5 engine, the engine details too.- 30 replies

Looks like I've forgotten to upload my first big MOC video here. Currently wondering whether or not to make a trailer for it out of the same set. Also - Tomik has produced so many alt-builds that I'm a bit overwhelmed by all of them. So many good stuff to build, so little time! -

Thanks :) So, I've finally revised my 42106 Drag Car - YT video here: Instructions are here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-56255/kostq/2in1-v6-pullback-drag-car-42106c-model/ Gallery: https://bricksafe.com/pages/kostq/42106c-v6-drag-car-2in1-pullback Clearly inspired by the Drag car from 42098B :) I've upgraded it with pullback and lockable steering, detailed interior - seat, gear shifter, steering wheel, dashboard. MANUAL MODE:- V6 connected to the rear left wheel ONLY. PULLBACK MODE - pullback is engaged with the rear axle and V6. A little nod to M_Longer :) I've ordered 42116 and 42117 TWICE each for weird alt-builds. Also just bought Senna and Jeep. In the meantime I've got several unpublished mocs, so the feed will keep going :) -

I'd love to form some discussion here :) Anyway - On my progress bar there are some improvements - 1. I've made my VW Camper lose the wing and the wheelie bars and just be a regular VW Camper as you can see above. 2. I'm currently refitting my V6 drag car to be as it should've been - red n black with azure interior as it's cousin - the V8. 3. I'm building another 42091 + 42090 alternate - a Police SUV with two pullbacks on a single axle. It wants to jump so bad. It's still in sketch mode and I have to stiffen the frame to survive all the barrel rolls it's capable of. It's not symmetric as well - trying out different configurations. I'm still gathering some photographic materials to make better shots - waiting for a proper tripod. All of my current photos are from my phone. Any tips on how to make better photos are also welcome... Next stop is getting some better lighting as well as these shots above used daylight and need lots of editing. -
[MOC] Buggy (42104 C model)

Cool little spin on the race truck. I like it. -

So the only XL about that motor is the housing? :D -
Get the 42053 for more pneumatics and then go wild combining all of the stuff you have. Or get the CLAAS as it has some weird mechanics you'll love. While they last - get a 42098 and build the garbage truck /on rebrickable/ or get the MACK and do it's garbage truck again for the mechanisms. Both are sets that have like 100 alternate models so you'll find your jam. Or just disassemble your arocs and do some of the 50 alternates it has :)

It's me again with another youtube video from my mocs: I'm still waiting for the new sets here in Bulgaria. I guess I'll import them faster than the official retailers will. Any discussion around the previous models in the topic is welcome. Tell me what can I improve in the videos/presentation/photos/posts here. I still have some free time on my hands and will try to MOC during 2021's first half. Most of the ideas about MOCs I had in mind from the Senna have already been implemented by the great designers here, so it'll be a challenging time :) Also some questions: 1. Would you be interested at all in another 42090+42091 combo model? 2. Is there any interest at all for combo models in general? 3. Do you prefer /generally/ C models or fully custom MOCs? 4. Should I include more features in the MOCs? -

What was the date and the country you got the set? Here I was told they'll not be imported by the official importer for at least another month... -

One of them is noiseless for the night - my gf sleeps in the same room. The other is more comfy. It looks like I've missed showing you another alt-build that i've made earlier -> Instructions are here. There is a timelapse on how I make the instructions in my youtube channel as well. Featurewise - it's a combo between the Buggy and the Claas and has two steered axles and some fine details. HoG feels weird wherever you put it so I've made two versions - one on top and one in the back "cargo place". -
The hardest part is to call it FINISHED and NOT touch it during the 3d model creation /for instructions/. Sometimes I disassemble the MOC after the PDF is done. Frees the mind from any future fixes to it. For smaller MOCs the FINISHED part takes another day, for the bigger ones it takes two weeks. And the questions from relatives/gf/wife - isn't it ready yet? - YES IT IS, but it is not READY READY... Second hardest part is to give up and use a 3x simpler solution that works better than your "dreams" of how it should work. A.k.a. the 3 hours before saying f*ck it, THAT'LL DO about a feature that you insisted on being there. Third hardest part of MOC-ing is to just SIT and MOC. Not toy around on how to begin mocing - just to sit down, grab them parts and start it. Crude mechanisms are still mechanisms :)

New day - new MOC. Currently in the workings of a "Gravedigger" out of the combo above. Until then - I've produced another trailer from a pullback set - the 42104. It fits MACKs, my own big rigs and even the 42046's hole in the roof. Crazy. It has foldable stand, sliding cargo fixer and well, basic looks. It fits large cars too :) Gallery is here: https://bricksafe.com/pages/kostq/42104c-race-trailer Tell me your thoughts so far, -

Introducing an alternative to 42090+42091's "tank" - the Police Bruiser The tank was so weird that I had to purchase the sets just to check it in person. And to be fair If you remove the front bumper it becomes a really capable off-road jumper. I know 42090 is cool /but spartan/ and 42091 is trash, but combined you get panel count near to that of 42041. There are many models inside, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to develop more. I couldn't make a race truck /42041 inspired/ with single axle dual pullbacks so instead i went to make this. The tires are too tiny if you try to upscale it beyond that. Features include: - Dual pullbacks on single axle - Chonky face - Seat, steering wheel, adjustable gear shifter - "doors" Instructions are on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-59679/kostq/4209042091-police-bruiser/ Bricksafe gallery: https://bricksafe.com/pages/kostq/42090-42091-police-bruiser Here it is next to the other cops'n'robbers combo - 42046+42047 combo. That guy lured me into technic 4 years ago. -

Just use BrickController and a ps4 joypad for play with the 42099. It's amazing. I've bought myself a PS4 controller just for this. AND you get proportional control and it's cosy and nice as a physical controller. Solo IR controllers are so tiny. I've joined two IR controllers on the same channel just to have a better grip. And yes, I know I can build myself stuff around them, they still aren't comfy enough. -
Hi, Unpopular opinion topic here: As a trained /4 years in/ AFOL/Technic-only user/moc-er/hobby-builder/whatever I've seen all the stuff we can improve and add and mod to a base set from technic so far. I've seen all the criticism of the official designers and end products, added some of mine or did profit by improving upon it. HOWEVER 1) How often do you pick up a Technic set with child's eyes? 2) How often do you see the expressions of non-afol people around you when they see a "dumb"/for you/ set and its features? 3) How often do you appreciate the mechanisms that the designers put into a model without the critical eye and "I can make it better" mentality? 4) How often do you just PLAY with a set? The way it was supposed to - like crashing pullbacks or driving around on the floor with the HoG steering. 5) How often lately do you prefer the LOOKS and not the machinery inside? /911 RSR, new Ferrari.../ The reason I'm asking is my experience set 42076 which is both horrible and lovely. Had a guest at home who was amazed by all the stuff it does while looking the way it looks. Genuine happy feels. And childlike grins and joy. As a machine I love its weirdness. It turns very weirdly and in the same time pretty accurate for a boat. I just want to probe for opinion for some of my wandering thoughts as I've began to develop AFOL calluses on my mind. I still enjoy 2AM driving my 42065 or 9398 just for the fun of RC driving. Just as my inner 6 year old self always wanted. Writing this I currently have 3 MOCs WIP and some of them steal ideas and mechanics from official sets :D

1. Economy of parts, lighter cargo to ship around /by the thousands/ 2. They know we exist and are going to customize it anyway. 3. Free advertisement after the set's release /by us modding it/ 4. It actually makes you BUY more Lego in some form. Or locks you in with the brand further. 5. Makes more expensive sets seem dull as they do not contain that much functionality besides looks /911 RSR, new Ferrari/. (okay, suspension, steering, fake engine are features, but we've been dulled to them so far) 4x4 on this small scale is a big feature... 42037 didn't have 4x4 too. And it looked hella lot uglier :D So why not. As for the 60 parts more - the mod is great, but the ball sockets aren't cheap. How much extra cost does the mod add? I love all the functions crammed in. It's technic as it should be. And is looking nice. As for Zerobricks's post - I'm a bit jelaous having to wait another MONTH to get to that set here in Bulgaria...

Last night got a 42090 for a spin - got this one out. I've made instructions as well - this time - free, as it's Friday today :D https://bricksafe.com/pages/kostq/42090c-hotrod - a link to the gallery. https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-57976/kostq/42090c-hot-rod/ - you know what's here Still looking for a cheap 42091 in Bulgaria to begin a better B model. The combo model just doesn't cost 45EUR as BG prices are a bit high. The police "tank" looks very weird to me and would love to try it out if it is actually cool in real life. Has anyone done it? -

Thank you. As for the steering - it was by accident. I had to enlarge the steering rack and the locking pin hole was just there :D -

I've made some youtube videos for almost all of my MOCs. Highlights of the most feature-heavy models are below: 42039B version 2 - You can see the pickup and RC actions here. 42106VW camper - pullback, wheelie bar and a wheelie stand. 42101+42102 combo model - HoG, fifth wheel and opening doors. The trailer from 42103 fits wonderfully! There are more videos for later. Tell me what you think about these ones first. Also I'm thinking about making a better B model out of 42090+42091. I'm planning a 4-wheeled B model for the 42096 Porsche. My questioning is should I go V6 or I6 for the engine? There will be plenty of space and the engine will be visible. -

This set looks like a cousin for 42032 in A model. The lift and tilt is the same, but it has wheels and less parts. -
