[WIP] Osprey Built out of Volvo
Kostq replied to Tomik's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great job so far! You can get some inspirations for the functions from this guy too - the 42039 Osprey. The PDF is free I believe. I have no idea whether he's in this forum or not. This is not my creation, I just enjoy the collective spirit to build this machine. -

And today I present to you my first combo video showing more than one moc, all from 42133's parts. -

One idea, two iterations - the OG one was the sprint car which as a concept always seemed way way way too ridiculous for an actual sports car. But then again I'm European and we have F1 and LeMans for rad racecar standards. The second one is with an adjustable wing as there were parts available and why not. Yeah. -

Finally - the video for the Claas Mini Xerion out of 42116 is up too. I have no idea if I can make the Claas from 42133 too, but it may be possible. Current MOC timeline for the future is 42118+42119 6x6 truck combo - we'll see how many features I can stuff in it or at all. Gravedigger has some curves, and MaxD with that gray makes them a good couple. Megalodon and Toro Loco clash a bit too much for a combo build. -

And my 42116 Telehandler based on the 42133 Telehandler has a video too. This is the only alt-build I've done that depends that much on clutch power between 4l axle and a 2l axle joiner. Maybe there's a better mechanism, who knows. I've tried to remaster it two months later - no effect. -

@vliet is correct. Sadly I've broken the Scania down and made the OG concrete mixer. I'm very pleasantly surprised by the OG 42112 - it's a sleeper set. Way WAY better in person. @Thirdwigg - thanks. After all the wait - here are the Dozer Bros videos side by side. Features are the same for both, the first one I've designed is the 42133 one. The studded pieces just begged to be a dozer blade. The proportions fit snugly too. 42116 one has a better steering - more gears - better articulation. The 42133 has a better blade action visually. You can vote which one is the better one. -

After the immense interest in my Scania rip-off I'm back to sharing Youtube videos of my smaller and duller creations. Notice the manual two-stage boom. Turret has 3600 rotation and 2 options for radius and the hook can be parked in the bumper. Boom can be elevated via the screw gear. -
42144 - Material Handler
Kostq replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Does your set drop the boom by itself after several hours too? Sariel mentioned the lower piston is badly stressed, I tend to agree there - it drops even if I open the other two valves.. -
Posing a Movable Horse in Stud.io?
Kostq replied to mvLego's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If you click a part that you want to rotate and press R it will show you some articulation points and a guess on how connected pieces will rotate too. It's a slow and anger-inducing process but possible. Basically - create sub-models based on articulation points - torso, leg upper part, leg lower part - etc. The most useful tool in using rotation and posing models is the HIDE feature. Sometimes the suggested rotation includes many parts that don't move, so you can HIDE them and the suggestion will catch up and ignore them too. Beware that you'll have to do the process in phases FOR EACH joint - so start with the hind legs, rotate the torso around the back legs, then rotate the front legs out from the torso and so on. -

If I have already made a 42039 B model in stud.io where should I send it to be reviewed, revised and included in the LDD and/or IO pages? File is here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-43081/kostq/42039-b-studio-file/#details -
Maybe someone will steal this idea and monetize it, who knows but I got an eureka today. Sorry for thread necromancy too. Currently I don't have the model in my possession, thus I'm theorizing. Power Functions 42140 is possible with a single receiver and remote + two polarity switches. The only obstacle is receiver visibility when it flips - where to put the receiver. You can link the flip function with a mechanism attached to an axle connected to two polarity switches. They are then connected to the PF receiver - one on each channel. So in UP position polarity is +, in BOTTOM position polarity is -. I'm not sure if it work that way, the other idea is pretty mechanical - RND gearboxes for both motors if there's the space. Again - the switches hardlinked to the flip function. Just like the 42070 two-function at-once switcher - the flip function can swap polarities/directions and let you continue driving.

Technic 2023 Set Discussion
Kostq replied to Dami's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Based on previous years - when will the eyecandy flow this year? I know the discussions on PU/C+ will never end, I agree with the fact that we lost some features, but gained others, life goes on. -

WIP truck. I have no idea whether the pieces will be enough or what features besides the 5th wheel and steering will be there. I'll see if tilting cab and inline engine can be squeezed in too. We'll see in 2023. Guess the OG set. -

As stated above 42116 and 42133 share so many main parts - I had to do LittleThomas' forklift out of the 42133 parts. He agreed that I could do it and get away with doing so - and here it is! It's the most playable alt of 42133 I've made so far and the most sold one too. Fork elevation has a useful glitch - if you push the forks DOWN after neutral position - it flips them UP and tilts them towards the vehicle. I didn't anticipate it, yet it's not wrong functionally compared to a real forklift that tilts the forks too. -

As stated before - the cousinship between 42133 and 42116 can't be ignored. So I've made cousin C-models out of both sets. -

I guess I've never showed my wheeled dozer here. Articulated steering and blade tilt are all the features. This MOC has a cousin made from 42116 too, but I'll show it later. -
42114 Volvo Dump Truck
Kostq replied to lupogtiboy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Find speedbuild videos online that show the process OR get the instructions and start gathering the numbers from phase to phase. 42128 is the only set I've assembled that used EXTRA pieces out of the PHASE X bags. All the rest can be "backtracked" but it will take some time. Another way to find out the pieces is to find a stud . io model that has followed the steps applied in the same way as the instructions book and export them. -

<Maaboo35 quote> -> Thank you for your kind words. I've made another 42116 alt build - a 42102 Claas Xerion Mini. It steers and that's it. It made me very happy as it was a weird challenge to solve, yet not impossible to do so. The two fender pieces and the same tires were tempting me for at least an year to try and replicate 42102 out of 42116's pieces. The 4L spacing of the Xerion's axles was a pain, as there are only 4! half-height pieces in 42116 and NO 1/2L spacers. NONE! Steering mechanism was a challenge. This guy saved the day in the front , these - in the back. The wheelbase is longer with a stud as the geometry of the double bent beams would clash with the other structures around. The back of the model is just there. The Xerion without the attachment isn't that pretty either. Links to gallery and instructions are in the signature if you're interested at all in them. Cheers from Bulgaria! -

42116 turned into 42133 - yup, it's possible! I'm still making the model's instructions - currently on the paging phase. I haven't showed you A LOT of my 42133 alt builds too. Getting closer and closer to my 50th MOC... Features - it steers, has boom elevation and some fork tilt with the weird assembly there. Steering is reversed as I ran out of parts and the forks can't hold much cargo. But it works and rolls great.. -

I've made some more small alts from 42133, a bundle is due.But first let me share with you the first ever two-stage rough terrain crane made from this set. . It's committing the cardinal sin of any alt-build - using non-LEGO equipment - adding a sewing thread to be able to lift stuff with it. 360 degrees turret rotation, friction-limited two-stage boom and boom elevation are the features. Instructions are currently in progress, but yeah. Witness this. -
