  1. Thanks for the kind words. I like building modular buildings, so I wanted to have this fit into my city (or our LUG layout). Technically the "real" building has another angled corner on the other side, but I wanted to make it a true corner and fit alongside any other building I would happen to put there. I do have a small interior, but I oddly enough never took pictures of it. I have stairs and a SNOTted rug on the main floor. I gave up doing upper floor interiors. So if I ever get around to taking a picture of the interior, I will either update it here (unless too much time has gone by) or otherwise I will put it in the folder on my flickr. I really like the nougat and sand green combo. It stands out among other buildings. I really need to update my signature line. Those modulars are from 7 years ago when I had less skill/fewer pieces. Haha
  2. Thanks for the comment. I think fire stations may just look like that. It was definitely not intentional to look WV version. This was inspired by a puzzle I saw that had a side tower. I figured everyone has their own style, so I thought I would throw my own in the mix. Thanks again.
  3. That is basing it on the traditional 10 cents per piece guide. Not every piece will fall into that. Looking at the pictures, to accumulate 20,000 pieces, you will need to source A LOT of similar pieces. That may bring down the cost some. I would say $2,000 is probably on the low end for what I'd expect. But then again, I've never ordered instructions. I've never ordered that many pieces before. Nor have I ever done a project of that scale, so don't quote me on actual cost.
  4. The interest has died down a little bit around this building, so I decided to build my own. A lot of people were posting their versions and while plenty were admirable, I wanted to go a different route. I did buy the official set, but didn't use too much from it outside of the main large window. I poured over movie stills to try to capture as many details as I could. It isn't perfect, but it fits into my layout pretty nicely. This build took a few weeks, not counting wait time for bricklink orders. Thankfully I only had to order a bunch of sand green tiles and some medium nougat pieces for the back. I like having my builds the same color all the way around, even if you don't see it. Unfortunately, I never took pictures of the back. Main view - One thing I've noticed in most MOCs, they are missing the upside down curve on the top row of gray. So I knew I had to have that in there. Most are also missing the stairwell/build on the roof. And oddly enough a lot are missing trees out front. Angled view - I don't love the jagged effect on the corner, but I don't know of any way to make it smoother in such a low profile area. It only has a one plate thick backing down the middle, otherwise it hits the sides. Side view - Added some masonry bricks to break up the color scheme a bit. Adds some age to it, I think. Close-up of the roofing - This is a truncated version of the real thing, but I tried adding in some roof details to make it feel more realistic. Most MOCs omit roof details. Thanks for looking. I hope everyone enjoys what they see. I know it is probably late to the party, but I don't like jumping on the bandwagon, so I waited until the hype died down before I even started building.
  5. Hi all! I haven't posted a MOC in a really long time, so thought I should give it a go (if I can figure out the picture thing). I had a MOC entitled Firehouse 23 based off of the interior filming for Ghostbusters and Big Trouble in Little China. No one really commented or cared. So I tore it apart and built a different fire station. Fire Brigade was my first modular and it will always hold a special place in my heart, even though under normal circumstances I don't particularly care for fire stations. Either way, I was inspired by a 3-D puzzle I saw, so thought I should try it out in LEGO with my own personal touches. This is the front view. You can see the bell tower with two alternating bells to alert the citizens. Ivy growing along the front adds some greenery and age. There is a kitty in the tree hiding out with no one the wiser. A fireman just gave a family a tour and is giving the little girl a souvenir. Next we have a close up of the front bay door. I'm always trying to come up with new ways to make the lights. The baseplate is built up to allow roads in front, so this is angled to match the road. Next, we have another angle of the front. A close-up of the ivy growing. Rear is next. A lone bush is growing. Interior 1st level Interior 2nd level kitchenette Interior 2nd level. Yes, I snuck the Fire Brigade ping pong table in there. Why not? The one firefighter is watching some tv. They have some pizza on the table and a bunkbed in the corner. Hope everyone liked it. I am happier with the result here than I was with Firehouse 23. Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.
  6. Looking at the picture, it doesn't look like rare pieces. Just a lot of them...20,000!!! One cannot guess how much the total cost would be considering no store is likely to have what you need, so multiple orders/multiple stores/multiple shipping costs. But if you consider the approximate 10 cent per piece rule (compared to your currency), you'd still be spending $2000. And that is just an estimate to shoot for. Best of luck.
  7. Most sets they don't include two different color schemes for walls exterior/interior. They did in the Ghostbusters firehouse...that set was $350! Do you really want a $300+ Moe's?? Even looking at Joker Manor which was $300, they had tiny rooms on the interior with the same wall color as the exterior. I'd assume the series is dead. If they really planned on starting it all over with the new Fox/Disney merger and created slightly new versions of all of the main characters and a new house, etc. then I think the sales would tank. Yes, there are new fans now that missed out the last time, but it's only been a few years. And I don't see how they could improve on the characters they already designed. Adding in more characters, yes. Redesigning the existing figures, seems silly and a waste of time.
  8. I don't have the link, but Jamie explicitly said they will not re-release previous modulars. The reason is two-fold -- a lot of those early pieces may be discontinued with no desire to bring back the mold. Also, to create something new. Yes, they have re-released a few other sets. I'm sure they have their reasons. But if you look back at the 2008 modulars vs 2018 even, they are a world away in differences. I wouldn't even want to buy them now since there is zero detailing. It has grown considerably. We are just lucky enough to be able to compare everything.
  9. While I prefer the classic yellow smiley, I feel bad for the one lady working the counter at the store since she is plain and the rest have expression. I can only make assumptions about her personal life and it isn't good. I like the case display and the chocolate/treats designs, as simple as they may be. It really fits with the build. One thing bothers me, the upstairs kitchen floor. The checkerboard works, but since 1x1s have some wiggle room and in this case there is a lot of them, it almost gives me a headache since they are all slightly askew from each other. It makes the floor look like it is moving. Otherwise, nicely done.
  10. Nicely done. Another interesting and unique build by you. I do prefer the azure building also, but also because of the shaping. The color pops, which works in this context, but I like the architecture of the building also. I didn't notice the 1x2 plates until it was pointed out. That is clever and really stands out as a different texture to a building. Otherwise a dark blue wall might look boring, but it works here. I will say, you and another person I saw on flickr those many moons ago were the people who inspired me to build Modular style buildings. I need to post more of mine on here. My main computer is a kindle tablet, so I can't do much with it. I need a PC/Mac or something to really get things posted. Either way, they aren't as happening as your builds, that's for sure.
  11. Overall, it looks like it would fit within a modular street. Typically I don't expect much greenery, so I like that you included that side area. I could picture that, maybe as a corner building and the sidewalk continuing along the fence. Either way, it has some charm to it. I'd like to see it sandwiched between other buildings to get a full feel of things, but that's just me. Keep up the good work.
  12. Looks great. Very interesting at this scale. I know they aren't the seats of the kingdoms, but I'd add in castle black/the wall, and Pyke for notable locations. But looks great. Kudos
  13. Interesting shapes and i can see you pulled it off well, but i don't think i life the source material. I'm not adventurous enough to understand it i guess. But the whole skyline looks great. I do prefer models i can build with real bricks for the challenge. But using non production parts fits help add the realism.
  14. Thanks for the review. Modulars are usually day one purchases. I think I will continue to pass on this. The reviews did bring the set into a better light for me. Some neat features and I like the colors. It’s a good start, but not where I want the finished product. And the price doesn’t help. Especially since it has only slightly more pieces than the Diner but a lot more expensive. Plus I still am sad they switched the heads. I know it is an easy fix, but it was the ONE area where it was consistent. I havent built the diner yet. I am unsure if I will even open it. Another regrettable purchase.
  15. Received mine yesterday. Thank you for organizing this.
  16. Thanks for doing this raffle. I always look forward to it. It's fun/neat to see what people come up with. And the wait is exciting and frustrating on the countdown.
  17. Bricked1980 - actually Emmet’s apartment building is a slightly modified Town Hall, so technically they already released it (practically).
  18. http://Mad-Eye Santa for Eurobricks contest by TheLegoDr, on Flickr Thank you for the raffle!
  19. I need to get pictures of mine. I can’t believe I did the sand blue grocer like 4 years ago already... eiher way, I didn’t have any issues either. I ended up not doing a straight swap and like RogerSmith I ended up figuring it out with the right number of bricks, but in new combinations. I also modified mine slightly from straight instructions. It is more symmetrical on mine vs the official set, so that changed the style of bricks needed. good luck with white. Can’t wait to see it.
  20. I assumed it was gwp, but I decided to get it from eBay since there isn’t any other Lego I need or want at the moment. Plus I had eBay bucks so it was mostly free anyway, woo hoo! but I agree. I have a hard time buying Lego at Barnes. Not a great selection usually.
  21. If B&N started selling them and ran out, they handled that promo very poorly. I was just in there recently and the only promo was the Kessel Run Miner polybag.
  22. Your thought process is yes and no on the right track. You have to make sure you can find the RIGHT set that has pieces you'll need. Just buying gray in bulk sets may not give you the quantities you need. You'll need to bricklink either way, but you may not know what you need until you start building. You also have to consider that not all figures or unwanted pieces will sell quickly or well at all. You may sit on them for a long time, so offsetting the cost isn't always going to work out in your favor. Personally, I source what I can from my collection as is, then move on to just bricklinking what I need in the amounts I need instead of hoping of buying multiples of sets that may only give me a fraction of what I need. Just a thought. Others can weigh in better than I can I'm sure.
  23. I redid mine in tan, but I already owned the set and had all of the tan, so can't say how affordable it was. The blue is a lot more striking than the tan. I have since taken it apart and plan on moving some other winter village design with it.
  24. I am impressed. I really like the landscaping with the different greens. It surprisingly does add a lot of depth to it without adding in a lot of variation in height. Incredible. I like the trees, even though they are smaller, they do represent a nice little forest area that really plays off well with the surrounding area. The winding road is neat also, even though it is just brown baseplate (it still works really well as simple as that is). It just shows how effective the rest of the surroundings are to overlook that. I did have a question in regards to the torso you are using for the cart driver. I looked on bricklink and couldn't find it, so I should just ask the source. I don't love the Crown knights, but they are effective here and the blues play off the surroundings quite well. I was more of a Kingdoms fan, even though red is overused a lot. I am currently remodeling my Forestman River Fortress and adding a lot of surrounding area too, so I may have to look into the texturing you did with your groundwork. Mine was only going to be 3x3 baseplates, so smaller than your area. Keep up the good work
  25. I have quite the stack of sets that were originally planned for building/parting out. Who has the space? I barely have space to stack unopened sets (and it looks bad when you think about it). I also don't have the display or storage space (and I actually do have too many pieces, so I don't need more sets). So that is overwhelming. My main ones are the Classic Batcave/Jokerland sets since I was planning on doing a large Wayne Manor/Batcave MOC at some point. Then multiple modulars I need to modify or part out. I have actually sold a lot of sets that I had backlogged because I figured I would never have the time for them and they somehow rose enough in value I couldn't justify opening them when I finally did have time (not my original intent to sell).
