[TIP] Almost a perfect fit
astyanax replied to aeh5040's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Careful now! Do you want me to point out all the illegal connections in your Ferrari 488 Pista model? Because I happen to know each and every one of them! -
[TIP] Almost a perfect fit
astyanax replied to aeh5040's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When I saw that image from this article, I wondered if this is a perfect fit or almost perfect. So after a little bit of math I concluded that those holes in the gear rack (24121) are exactly 3 Sqrt(10) - Sqrt(30) modules apart, or approximately 4.0096 modules. So the 5M beam is 0.077mm too short. I guess that's within tolerance? -
8880 - Issues with build

That sticker is for the B-model. In the A-model, I'd put that part at p42 step 7, then it won't been noticed. -
Fortunately I did not see that pic before going to bed....

Or maybe to make it easier to attach the dashboard assembly. (See 2nd pic in 1st post.) -

Anyone knows what this construction is even for? Is it to limit the range of motion of the springs? -
[MOC] Toyota Supra

In front of the front wheel, I see you struggled with the lack of in DBG. If there's nothing connecting underneath it, you could try instead using (stick the bar into the axle hole above -- it won't rotate) and . That'll give the exact same geometry. -
Nico71's Creations
astyanax replied to nico71's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very cool creation @nico71! It seems so 'obvious' in hindsight... which just means the design is so coherent. Thanks also for the elaborate write-up! Great read -
General Part Discussion

Indeed! About 2 years ago I was looking to expand my collection of red connectors, beams, and panels. I found 8653 and 8070 locally second-hand. Parted out, they have been corner stones of my red supercar builds, like the Ferrari 488 Pista (now recycled again).- 5,507 replies

Yeah but it would be nice if those toggle joints were the same color... But red ones go for like $5 a piece on BrickLink...- 5,507 replies

Right, but still with different levels of success. To me, only the Chiron really felt solid as a tank. Could even be lifted comfortably by its roof. In the Sian unveiling video, they showed it being lifted by its roof, but in reality I found this to detach the bottom of the windshield. This is also what impressed me most In BuWizz's video of the GTA Spano: they were holding the 4.3kg monster by the roof all the time!

Not really, the technic connectors #2 to #6 go in steps of 22.5 degrees...- 5,507 replies

Has anyone ever had a use for those clicky mech joints in technic builds? I was thinking even of static stuff such as holding angled bodywork; but then again they might still be knocked ajar... Hmmm- 5,507 replies

Just wondering if you had some use in mind for a technic build?- 5,507 replies

Y'all might be interested in part 24144: It has an axle hole on one end, and a bar on the other end. The angle is the same as the #5 connector. It might be useful for putting bodywork at funky angles where space is tight. There's one twist though: the axle hole is rotated 45 degrees!- 5,507 replies
