[TC18] Dart
johnnym replied to Rudivdk's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Rudivdk: That's one cool car. I especially like that you included the Technic figures. I believe it is not that widely known, that they fit the 42093 scale very well. -

42111 - Fast & Furious car
johnnym replied to Kaanere's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You're correct, I forgot about that. Maybe because I prefer the later ones. Indeed, that was quite a picture seeing that "small" Mustang trying to push the "big" Charger of the road in Bullitt. Man I love the soundtrack of that movie, especially the intro music. Sorry for going off-topic. -

Now make the Mustang DHG (Dark Highland Green) and remove the turbo charger and wheelie bar from the Charger and you can play one of - if not the - best car chasing scene(s) of all times. -
Cool! So much functionality in such a tight place. Hm, V10 in front, a Viper? But they didn't have 4WS IIC. What's it going to be?

If this picture is authentic: (from here), then the used mechanism in the 42111 set is very close to reality. -
[TC18] Mini Porsche 959 AWD

Wow, body looks great so far! I think the white one gets closer to the real car. It's instantly recognizable because of the shape of the spoiler. -

Hey, what's that car in your avatar? Looks great from what I can see. What scale is that? -

Doesn't look like much for 99 EUR, also what I can see over here (from other thread). Ha, ha, ha, that will work pretty well with one singular car. Maybe it's still an early April Fool's trick - a good one then. -
I see, thanks for the explanation. What I meant was what @rm8 is using on this truck here at the front (best seen in the video itself) - I figure these are then just named roll bars, too? You should have seen my face when I had attached it to the truck and drove around for the first time - what the... something's wrong here. I should have noticed that from the start... I thought about using bevel gears instead of the knob wheels, but haven't continued yet as I basically would have to take most of the chassis apart to attach the smaller gear reliably. Those Fischertechnik tyres are really useful, BTW, a little off-topic, but there are also smaller tractor tyres available in this set - maybe useful for your tractor builds. And indeed, the Batmobile ones have very good proportions. Thanks! For the hood, what do you think of: something rounded like in the first version or maybe with tapered panels? Actually I'd like to keep the boxy look, although it's far from the original 8081. Doors: I thought about something like @rm8's FJ40 rock crawler, when I created the initial version, so I wanted to have see-through doors. I think they have some appeal, but I'll give LBG a try, I think I only used black rims instead of dark red rims so far. Thank you. I fully agree, the new Batmobile tyres were very welcome, I only wonder why they didn't debut in a Technic set. At least LEGO is also selling them separately, not like the 30.4 x 20 mm Mustang rims which are only available through Bricklink or through buying a set. Interesting builds, especially the blue one. For the black one, I think it builds a little too high for its width, but maybe that's just the perspective of the rendering. Works for me.

Grohl's Creations
johnnym replied to grohl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@grohl: Cool vehicle - though I have to say, I like the front more than the rear, but that may change when I have it in front of me for real! Great alternate build idea for this set, 42093 is just a top set. The bonnet stickers fit very well together - I haven't used mine until now, but the way you combined them looks just awesome. I think the front made a ltitle longer would also make a good start for a C1 Corvette with four headlights.- 784 replies

[MOC] Mini Ural
johnnym replied to apachaihapachai's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@jorgeopesi and @apachaihapachai: I think a combination of both would be even better, i.e. (1) the linear actuator base together with (2) the one piece steering arms. 1. can be fixed more securely and 2. can't tear itself apart easily. But the gear rack would be one stud closer to the axle then. @apachaihapachai: Very nice and small truck btw, and so capable. Say, do you still remember how you kept the rear axle halves together? I see two liftarms on each side attached to the chassis in their middle position and gears in between, but no connectors between the liftarms. Did you use the axles from the wheels and gears to hold it together? -

Added two additional color schemes, because I started to like lime and yellow on cars, though the red version is still my favorite: lime yellow -
Well, I wanted to try @Thirdwigg's front axle (from the 8081 110 Pickup) in my mod of his 4x4 mod of the 8081 for a while and found the time in February. I had to do some slight modifications to both (1) the panhard rod attachment so that it doesn't collide with the chassis when the shock absorbers are fully compressed and (2) the steering control mechanism, as the new front axle steers in the opposite direction than the original one with the original steering control mechanism. I'm still not satisfied, as the knob wheels from the steering control mechanism can still collide with the rear axle when its shock absorbers are fully compressed, but that's not worse than with the original mod. The new front axle works much better than the original one for me, but it sadly doesn't allow for balloon tyres, as the steering mechanism collides with the sides of these tyres - so one downside here. I also changed the looks of the truck a little on the way: Granted, it now does no longer closely resemble the 8081 - maybe not even remotely as it looks more like a Bollinger or a Hummer now - but I still find it worth posting here. Hope you guys see it the same way. It now also has a removable/openable rear cover and modified roll bar. And the front allows for attachments (winch maybe or bull bars for trial runs - sorry, I don't know how these is called in English, I mean those bull bars that prevent that a trial truck pulls over its front when going downhill or landing on its nose).

@kodlovag: Nice truck! I also see some 8081 in front and windshield. That's also a nice touch. Don't you agree @Thirdwigg and @rm8? And CaDA wheels and tyres are an interesting variation. BTW, how do they look from the other side? -
Black Interceptor
johnnym replied to FX6000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@FX6000 and Nikolay Gamurar and Mikhail Biktimirov: That's a cool car you designed and modified and a great replica of the "real" car. Will one of you maybe produce a small video showing it drive? That'd be nice. Or is there already a video up for the original model? Didn't notice that at first. That's a cool idea! It allows to use modern rims with the cool old tyres. Apart from using different width tyres at the rear, did you notice any strange behavior when driving the car around? Is the combination of a modern 56145 rim with modern narrow 30699 tyre and old wide 6594 tyre stable enough for "hard" driving? I plan to use that combination on my Turbo Racers line of vehicles and those are pretty fast and powerful. Another question: The 15413 tyre at the rear (right side) looks interestingly mounted to the rim. I mean from the pictures it looks like the flanks are inclined towards the rim. Hot did you get that effect, as usually the flanks are vertical (90° angled) to the ground and parallel to the flanks on the other side?- 39 replies

42111 - Fast & Furious car
johnnym replied to Kaanere's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Clearly Brian's Eclipse was the model for the 8649. I believe so, the first F&F came out in 2001 IIRC and the 8649 is from 2005. I'd terribly like that, too. If LEGO doesn't do it, we can still make it happen on our own, e.g. see this Supra, or @Thirdwigg's 42098 mod, or @Arioh's Drifter (42098 mod) or my mod of the Drifter etc.. -
[TMC1] 8081 SRT Tremor
johnnym replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The bed looks a little too short to me now. When checking the side picture of the real tremor the bed seems to be as long as 4/5 of front and cab. Did you change its length since the first post or did you move the rear axle? I like that, too. Maybe recheck the lights, when the grill is ready. The parts @sirslayer is using for the headlights of his "Black Widow" truck could work in addition, or what is used in 42070.
