[MOC] Small Racing Car
johnnym replied to KirTech LAB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@desert752: Cool Racers! They're attached to 2 half pins. Check the white version on https://www.flickr.com/photos/141718063@N06/50839876218/in/album-72157717907092491/, there is some blue shine coming out of the upper axle connector pin holes. Very cool solution @desert752. -
[TC19] The Red Blaze
johnnym replied to MajklSpajkl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, that looks gorgeous! Fine work, I don't even know all parts you're using here. Look very useful for future projects. -
Small update: Both models are "finished" for now and available on Rebrickable (incl. digital models): https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-62211/johnnym/tg-power-wrecker/ https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-62212/johnnym/tg-car-transport-trailer/ In addition here's a super-short video showing the loading of a car onto the trailer with the help of the trailer's double winch powered by the PTO of the wrecker: @MangaNOID: What do you think about these hood scoops on the wrecker? They didn't make it into the model on Rebrickable but will most likely be included into the race pickup I plan to create from the wrecker. Or maybe - because they could be used on mutliple cars depending on their size and I already have a few different versions - they will be offered as separate models as tuning options for the Turbo Racers.

@HorcikDesigns: These look totally awesome, especially the engine of the first one!

Thanks for the hint, but I don't want to make it too realistic, in the end it's still science fiction. I think I'm set with the exhaust going out between the rear fender and and the attachment to the seat above. I imagine something like what the F-117 has for its exhausts but rounded (around the fender) and the exhaust being cooled down that way, too. That's a cool snowmobile! The setup sounds similar to the one I use in the Renegade, though I use shaft drive instead of a belt (or chain for the bike below). A friend pointed me to the turbine driven bikes from MTT: So these are existing - insane! Thank you! Hey, nothing prevents you from using a turbine, too. Most of the other bikes in that contest use similar but more common cumbustion engines, too. It just came with the way they're attached. But could be made a feature, what?

[TC19] JF explorer 2WD

To be honest I'd also like to see bigger wheels on this machine. I think at the moment it looks a little like a pocket bike - but a damn cool one , considering all that functionality that is included. What about 68.8 x 36 ZR on bigger rims, they should have a neraly identical footprint as the ones you use currently but I think the bigger rim will make a visual difference. Or if staying with the same rim size you could try to use 68.8 x 40 Q balloon tyres on older 3 pin hole rims. It would look like the ones on the black truck and be slightly smaller than 80 mm in diameter IIC but also a little thinner (original idea and implementation by @HorcikDesigns): -
Thanks! Well I either have to do some research about how their tubing could look in reality (I think I remember having pictures of the engine of the Gloster Meteor or its predecessor) or I let myself guide by what is possible in the available space. Thank you and hey, it's not a bug it's a feature! Just imagine, everyone could have a bike with burning tyres like Ghost Rider! Actually I imagine the exhaust being funnelled to the outside between the rear fender and the extension of the seat (i.e. where the rear light is attached), although it's not fully constructed in that way now - not sure if I can implement that - there is a visible distance between those parts. I think that could also work in reality. Though I have to say, that leaning with turbine exhaust support is intriguing.

General Part Discussion
johnnym replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, not for me, I saw that exact message today for the first time. But if it was there for you since months and your orders arrived with highly variable delivery time during that time frame, I assume it's just bogus then.- 5,466 replies

I checked today and there it reads (not sure if that's only the case for Germany, though): Wat?!! A few days ago the tyres weren't available and now that they are available delivery takes up to nearly two months?- 5,466 replies

Thank you @MajklSpajkl! About that liftarm: I needed something with axle hole and two pin holes at one end though it's not strictly neccessary I think. But actually I like how it "copies" the lines of the middle section over the turbine inlet. With some added panels it might become a mudguard perhaps. And if I let my eyes blur my vision a little, I can see a creature head and the liftarm hanging out being its lower jaw. Could now answer that myself: Using the chain elements of 42036 instead makes a day and night difference. The mechanism now works considerably smoother and the bike can run several meters without stopping when pushed. I wouldn't have expected that, as the elements look nearly identical even when viewed with a magnifying glass.
-
Ok, the "torque transformer" is ready and the turbine is now connected to the drive shaft. I created new pictures showing the changes. The bike hence got a little lower in the middle and I now use smaller side panels at the rear to reveal the rear wheel - I think it looks better that way. The turbine is not finalzed yet in regard to color and rims used. I will change to the newer rims but first have to precure some. And it might get a little shorter on the way, too. From the rear wheel to the turbine shaft it's 20z => 12z, then 16z =[chain]=> 16z and last 36z => 12z. There is some considerable noise and also some resistance in the drive train - I assume partly due to the up-gearing and partly due to the chain. What's your opinion on that? And as the chain elements used are most likely from pre-2000 sets, do newer chain elements run maybe smoother? Here some detail pictures: ...and the turbine itself (still w/o attachments, tubes, etc.): Again, high-res pictures available in the corresponding bricksafe folder.
-
Thanks, Thirdwigg! Already made some progress: the shaft drive is in, as is a "prototype" GENESIS Vortex 500 micro-turbine and it's still good-looking - in my eyes. New pictures maybe tomorrow... Next step: the torque transformer, the magical device that "connects" the turbine shaft to the drive shaft.

Sorry, but I can't speak nor read Russian. From Google Translate I figured you might ask for when the instructions are ready? Sorry, but I didn't create real instructions for these three models, but you can find the digital models (created with Studio) on Rebrickable, HTH: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-38227/johnnym/v10-muscle-car/ https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-38254/johnnym/phaedra-palomino-mach-2/ https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-38330/johnnym/plymouth-roadrunner-superbird/

Well, actually this contest comes much too early for me, as I wanted to dive into motorcycle building in a few weeks or months or so earliest . So far I only built the 8051 B model ( which actually sparked that bike building idea in me) and the 42036 A model but am otherwise totally unexperienced in bike building. But I couldn't let go and so yesterday started something which should be a bike extraordinaire (even for the future!), the 2055 GENESIS Renegade. There's no engine yet, and there's also no suspension yet. But maybe I can come up with something similar to the one used at the front of the 8051 B model. I imagine a hardtail for this bike, so most likely no suspension at the rear. And as this bike should fit in my Turbo Racers vs. Police Interceptor series it of course should feature a turbine as engine and most likely shaft drive. Please check the bricksafe folder for high-res pictures. Not sure if this is going anywhere from here, but there's still some time left, so we'll see. What do you think, should this bike be continued?

[TC19] Katana supersport
johnnym replied to steph77's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You can still make one of those "loooong" bikes from Fury Road out of it. I think these had a distinct look. I think bright green would work better than lime here, lime just works better with black IMO. Though stickers can make a difference. Apart from that I still find that earlier version w/o the upper front panelling the best looking one so far. -
@Thirdwigg Great! Those instructions work very weel for me. Very much appreciated! I now need to find the pneumatics equipment. How come LEGO did only sell this pump in one singular set. Say, is the pneumatic hose of a comon length? If not I think I still have some old un-cut pneumatic hose from my 8851. At least I hope so, because I don't want to disassemble my 8851 for the hoses as the upper part hasen't lost much parts in 30 years and is still working correctly.

Thanks a lot! Also thanks! Glad you llike it. About the bonnet, yeah, I think I could have made it more detailed (already on the original T-Laster body, which became very simple in the end). But I think it also fits the rest of the wrecker well. What would you add? Some hood scoops or a power dome? Such things can surely be arranged! But because of the planned backstory I can't deviate too much from the original T-Laster, so the basic shape should be kept. And the PTO was actually the last mechanism I added and It just barely fits, so I was glad it worked out. Thx! Yeah, the blue one is not yet published. I'm still unsure if I can replicate it in Studio, it uses a lot of rubber connectors and angles. I'll do some photos and send you a PM.

Technic General Discussion

Of course. But that thinking also just gave me the idea for how to get a replacement for the non-existing DBG 2L pin connector out of two DBG 1L beams connected with 2L pin and bar to connect to the next pair or other part with open pin. -

@Rudivdk Indeed, looks great in lime! Have you tried with the three hole rims in matte black? I think that could look very good, too. Very interesting: say, how did you connect those three 1L beams to the axle connector at the front? 2L pin in the lower two 1L beams and lightsaber through all three 1L beams into the axle connector? That would be a useful way of connection. -
Thanks @Void_S! I usually prefer the old style panels - which interestingly were also used as seat in 8041/42041 for example - but in this case for the rear end I wanted to have it in an "all of a piece" fashion. Though that did not work completely for the sides, it continues the lines of the truck bed (not sure if it's also called that on wrecker trucks, sorry I'm not a native speaker) much better than the old style panels would have..
