The Pony Express operated in the American West from 1860 to 1861. Prior to the completion of the transcontinental railroad, riders on horseback would deliver mail across frontier country. The mail service allowed a letter to travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific in 10 days. To make the best time and expedite mail delivery, riders would relay bags to one another while at a full gallop. --------- This is my first foray into Western MOCs. I loved the TV show "The Young Riders" as a kid - it was about the adventures of Pony Express riders.

[COR-FB] Captain Scarver at Port Woodhouse
evancelt replied to Justsomebrix's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice work! That's a lot of containers. Good cannon design. While I think you hit all of the big tenets of Ayrlego's Port Woodhouse design (1x1 round stack roof, white walls w/ colored mottling, etc), you've added a personal touch by increasing the number of colors in the walls. You have tan, dark tan, dark orange, medium nougat, reddish brown, correct? I'm not sure the all extra colors all work - it seems harder to the focus on! Nice job with the cobbles While I choose to use yellow minifig heads, by choosing 'fleshies' you are able to have multiple skin colors and that really livens up the scene. Interesting to see that "officer" torso used as a common soldier torso - it works!- 15 replies

Very nice, @Spud The Viking! Cool column technique. Imposing and regal building befitting such an esteemed operation. In your teaser on Instagram we could see the neat paneling on the doors. Might you have another closeup shot of them that features the door details better? -

This is just my personal take: I think they are allowed and encouraged, though they do have a stigma. With real brick builds, you are limited by your collection and the pieces/figs available to you. I find that can help me find creative solutions out of necessity. With a digital build, you can build as big as you want with whatever pieces you want (or as big as your CPU/RAM will allow) and that can feel like an unfair advantage to real-brick builders. That said, (1) it isn't really a competition most of the time, so who cares about an advantage and (2) a lot of folks don't have access to a real brick collection because of cost or living arrangements, so it is way better to build with a digital program than not at all. -

Thanks! I'm only using already mangled pieces as sources of studs for smaller bricks and plates My kids are super rough with them and use them as Minecraft pickaxes and hammers and some of the older or weaker colored pieces shatter, others are (partially) salvageable. I'll post picks of the reclamation process if I end up using them in a build. -

Each Duplo 1x2 is still going to be 2x4 regular system studs in size. So they'll be big Im sure I'll also incorporate some of this -

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
evancelt replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Since Duplo don't normally come in pieces smaller than 2x4 plates, I'm trying out a destructive process to yield smaller parts -

What are the court's thoughts on a fully DUPLO base for a MOC? Would that be permissible? I'm envisioning something where the minifigs used are system-sized If not allowed because it distracts from LEGO-sized builds, that's fine -

Lovely @Khorne! I love the red color scheme and architecture, as well as the base. The upside down lanterns are fun! Also really like the posts made out of round plates and bricks. They are simple yet very effective as ornate posts. Nice photos, the gray background works really well -

I really like the sloped walls, cobblestone road surface, and building textures. Nice work! I agree with Khorne that some blue under the bridge would have made it clearer that it was a bridge over water as opposed to a ditch, etc -

Great job - I really like the quarter round tiles in the walls for decoration, and the nested arches. Great minifigure activity and I love the carriage design. The road / path design is a little studdy, though the cool walls make up for it for me.- 8 replies

[COR - ChIVE] ETTC Villa, Terraversan Interior
evancelt replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wonderfully done. Glad to see a continuation of ETTC efforts on Terraversa! I see the nougat 1x2s made a showing I especially like the rough SNOT stone patios and the windows. What technique did you use for the windows? -
Thanks. Would love to see it in your next building. Haha thanks. Yes, the end build does look viking-y. I guess the barn builder had a thing for antique styles Yeah, the musket roof could be fun! I think I have enough muskets, but only like 30 of the reddish-brown 1x1 tiles w/ clips on top, and like 10 of the reddish-brown 1x2 plates with clip on top. Would either have to find another method to secure them, buy more parts, or disguise the clip parts in the roof. I have another thatch roof style in mind for when I reuse the walls/boat part of this build in a new build. Thanks! Yeah I love seeing those posts where people make walls out of carrots, fences out of breadsticks, furniture out of pistols, etc. Fun to try it with my excess pieces. I have a few more in mind from my sorting overflows.

Thanks guys. Yeah I may redo the roof in another style and submit it as another build with a base / vegetation / different story. As I haven't licensed this one I hope that will be OK I like the boat prow and pentagonal rockwork a lot and think the roof detracts some. For this build above I just stuck the backpack neck holes on plate studs, but I think the backpacks could probably be made more secure by using technic pins into technic bricks or technic plates Perhaps in a future build a roof could be made with muskets These weird ideas for roof elements came about because I recently did some sorting of spare minifig things and realized I have a lot of some of these pieces - enough they could be used in weird ways Some pictures from sorting the spares:

Still in Terraversa following the hostilities with Oleon, Captain Brickleton and Major Brickford ( @LM71Blackbird ) go for a walk to discuss their plans to expand ETTC presence to every settlement in the Brick Seas. They stop near a barn and decide how they can bring the trade company to the settlements they govern. OOC:
