Hmm... not sure if that was the point of this critic contest. Frankly, never seen such an involvment into suggestions and pointing out lacks or parts for improvement in international AFOLs community. In Poland this happens on daily basis, we just love... helping others develop building skillks. This helps getting better and better with each MOC, especially if suggestions come from people with big bulding experience but it's important to remember that creating a LEGO model is an act of art. Should come from the author, not the commitee.

Excellent example of miniscale build! It's just filled with awesome details and NPUs - canoe and ship made out of shoulder armour to name the most obvious two. Great idea! Not sure if I even seen such a palm in miniscale build - usually people and sets use just small plant with three leaves, usage of that "superhero jumping" element adds nice curvature to the palm tree trunk. Since you mention that you are working on update version - would be nice to consider making a difference in height between water level and grass aroud it. One plate would be nice but if you managed to make the difference just half a plate it would be even better. Should be doable with some SNOT techniques applied to the base. Imho this would be even more beneficial than removing studs from the water.

[ENTRY][SMALL] RAFT: The King’s Merchant + Comic book
BardDandelion replied to Marooned Marin's topic in Pirate MOCs
It's a wonderfull little build, would work as a set, works as a MOC. Good job. ;) I like the nice contrasting details - yellow and red flag and food in the barrel. Just one question - why did you use blue technic pin in digital build? -
[ENTRY] [LARGE] - Steve's Upgraded Cutter (The Untold Story)
BardDandelion replied to Andy-Roo's topic in Pirate MOCs
Chicken (pig? would also work for pig) cage is a really great detail and a nice feature. They really used to carry all the food alive before invention of the fridge. I really like the base. Is that some kind of blue foil that build is put on? I was considering this kind of solution for Pirates theme dioramas (parts for water would be so expensive). -

Mop head come in bright green in several sets so this tedailt would be possible to achieve with physical bricks. I was intrigued by black broom part (it is used on the top of the statue) but according to BL it is available in black since this year. It comes in Dinsey Princess Maleficent's Dragon Form and Aurora's Castle set. -
[ENTRY][LARGE] TAPU ISLAND + MEGA COMIC
BardDandelion replied to Marooned Marin's topic in Pirate MOCs
This is really cool build, would fit perfectly next to new Barracuda and new Eldorado sets. Let's be honest - Islanders lack representation in current era of Pirates theme. Making this build foldable and reconfigurable is a nice feature, this would add a lot to playability if this would be a set. Trimaran is a nice ship of choice. Is dark red a reference to OG red canoes of Islanders? -
[ENTRY] [LARGE] Escape from the Imperial Trading Post
BardDandelion replied to A_Goodman's topic in Pirate MOCs
@A_Goodman Oh, yeah, that makes sense, keeping the base in dbg/lbg gets it closer to that legendary set. If you need some inspiration for the crane @Kozikyo86, fellow Eurobricks member made one. I believe there is even an instruction for it. Can't find them right now but I'm almost 100% sure that some really good looking cranes were made by @Toltomeja in some of his builds. -
@MyFirstMOC-Hun Yeah, I also thought these could be life boats (or in case of pirate ship just boats :D) but given the level of details in everything else in the build these simple tiles would be very weak representation of them. If you would like to make some demaged pieces of ship floating in the water maybe some plant parts would be good? In general, these are small, in right shape and available in right colors (reddish brown in that case). Both Carrot Top 33183 and Plant Flower Stem with Bar and 3 Stems Short 68211 would work here as e.g. parts of mast. Oh! You could also use some SNOT techniques and use tiles but "hide" some parts of them in the base, making just little part (0.5 plate) above water level.

Amazing ship! It's nicely built, not too complicated, still has some set vibes. I would like to make something like that in future (got Black Peal and new Barracuda, they will be used as a base for two ships). :D I really like the fact that the name of that ship come from printed tile and is a name of woman that helped sending nother ship to the Moon. :D Wanted to ask about sails but I see that this question was already asked ans answered. Great job. Could you please share the link to the mentioned "sails production tutorial"?

Nice, unique build in the competition (most other entries are not in miniscale). My favourite details are splashes of water from the cannonballs - really great effect and reuse of part, just in different color. Not sure if I ever saw this part used for water splash, for some reason fire with trans-range is much more common in MOCs. The second best detail is tord sail made with this new weird part. Great idea. Not sure about 1x2 tiles in the water. Are they supposed to be demaged parts of the ship? Maybe something smaller would work better instead?

BardDandelion replied to A_Goodman's topic in Pirate MOCs
What a cool build! It's a proper upgrade or remaster of old Pirates set. Reminding me of Eldorado Fortress, looking much better that official reedition set we got last(?) year. Rockwork is decent and I really like the change of color, it adds a lot to the build. Same with small dark red parts of the wall, they look very natural. The one thing I would change is the pathway to the fort - instead of lbg I would rather use dark tan. Also - the cran is missing counterweight. ;) -

Such a great little scene! I'm a big fan of using machete instead of regular pirate saber. This work much better in jungle environment. Skull for hermit crab "shell" is a nice touch, as was already mentioned. Usage of vibrant colors (yellow, red) in the statue reminds me of Adventurers: Jungle theme. Was that intentional? -

Truly impressive diorama. Big, but filled with details. I really like the color scheme for plants - layers of lime, bright green and green for grass work perfectly here.- 13 replies

[MOC] Hvitdreki, the white dragon
BardDandelion replied to Louis of Nutwood's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Truly impressive build. Great shaping of all the elements of the dragon and very good proportions of the body parts. -
@-DoNe- Thank you! Wasn't sure about the studs on the water surface but already had a lot of wedge plates in medium azure and decided to use them anyway. Some may doesn't like it but considering budget available parts I think the result is good enough. @Khorne Thank you very much! For me worlds of LEGO builds have this specific, cartoonish vibe and usage of colors is crucial to make it work. Mixing too many colors, too many shades of color breaks it. That's why for vegetation there are only three shades of green used (lime, bright green, green), adding fourth would be too much. I apply this logic to all my builds. @Feuer Zug Thanks! Wanted the colors to combine into this idyllic, magical, Oriental scene and I'm really happy with the results. :)

@Arjo Thank you very much, it's nice to read it. :) @eric_son_of_joseph Thanks a lot! Dragon head is based on my older design - I've made red and blue heads before. :D

@Arjo Thank you very much, I'm really glad that you enjoy my build. ;)

My latest, inspired by Warhammer world build. Wanted to create Asian dragon for a long time, my first approach last winter wasn't good enough so I had t ogo back to this topic. It wasn't enough for me to make this irregular shaped creature "flying" above baseplates, had also to build flowing mountains. :D Decided to keep terrain in vibrant, bright colors that's why I used mix of lime, medium azure and lbg. Various shades of pink were introduced for contrast. Jade Dragon in his dragon form: Jade Dragon in human form:

Cool scene. Nice work with gate providing the framing for the whole build. Would fit perfectly Arabian Street collab my LUG made in 2021. ;)

[MOC] The Green Council - House of The Dragon
BardDandelion replied to Martin98's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Plenty of great techniques! The room is instantly recognisable. -
This is another great build from you! The only issue I have with this series of MOCs are colors - you use bright shades from LEGO palette of colors (here you have combination of medium azure, lime, tan, medium nougat and white) and I'm not sure if this fits style of GoT/HotD. I had similar issue with some Witcher vignettes by another builder. But the techniques are awesome, can't wait to see more and to see these at some convention in the future! ;)
