LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hey, that's true, we could totally see some january 2021 sets revealed! I'm guessing something mandalorian related, they'll want to promote that. I mean maybe it's the most well-known clone legion but I was responding to someone who said that the 501st as the "coolest army to collect" was a fact. Please do not try to argue that the 501st is the objectively coolest faction in star wars, I don't think "coolness" can be factually measured. Besides, the 212th and coruscant guard are better . -
Does anyone know any good purist ways to make Revan? (without using the super expensive parts of the polybag figure, of course!) I've got most of the figure down, but I can't find a good head piece for his mask. If anyone's interested in the rest of the figure, for Darth Revan I've got: Black legs with dark red hips, the back of a sith trooper torso, dual-molded black/light bluish grey arms with light grey hands (for his vambraces), a black cape, and black hood. And a red lightsaber, of course. For Jedi Revan (which as far as I can tell only appears in a black series figure and mobile game, but I thought the concept was cool given Revan's character), I've got: white legs with reddish brown hips, dengar's torso, white arms, reddish brown hands, a white cape, and white hood, with a purple lightsaber.

I don't know about the third, but I don't think the 501st being one of the "coolest armies" is a fact, and I'm not sure many people will buy the set for the sole reason of "supporting" a youtuber. It's not a lego ideas set, he's not getting a share of the profit. Probably the child, if that set's really coming out in the fall they've got to reveal images soon. -

That would be a cool idea, although it might not always be a $30 battle pack but something like your rebel vs stormtrooper example, or just a more minifigure-heavy set. -

This is probably the case. Same here! I think more of these types of sets would be great, I could easily see an imperial one with some small empire vehicles. The thing is there's so many factors you have to take in here. The first, like you yourself say, it's more like 10/38, which is over 1/4th. Doesn't sound highly unrealistic to me. Then you have to take into account the 2012-2013 battle packs with opposing factions. They don't really make those anymore, so I doubt a 501st battle pack would have been 2 501st and 2 droids. There are all these factors you have to consider, such as the uniformity of the faction (a battle pack of tatooine or scarif rebels isn't going to have identical figures, neither would a bounty hunter one or one for the mandalorian covert), but the basic point is that it's not really that unrealistic to expect four 501st troopers, say, 3 privates and a jet trooper. -

I was thinking a similar thing. I could easily see this set without the AT-RT and battle droids releasing for $15, we've gotten tons of battle packs with the same figures before. Either lego was smart and decided to capitalize on the hype by making it a bigger set, the designers just already had a $30 price point to work with, or both. Although I echo @jdubbs's sentiment that this is a pointless debate, In addition to all the ones you mentioned, I'll add the senate commandos set and Infearno squad set as two other example of sets with 3 identical troopers. When you other six examples are added, as well as the ones with 3 or more of the same droid, you've got 10 sets. Then you have to think about sets where the faction's troopers are all different, like the 2015 and 2016 rebel battle packs and the sets where there's only a minor difference between two identical troopers and a third trooper like the hoth rebel or 2015 resistance battle packs. There are also several clone legion battle packs (also some imperial ones) with 2 different types of two troopers each; the geonosis, kashyyyk, and utapau battle packs. (as @Kit Figsto said, there's no way that utapau battle pack isn't a 212th battle pack). And the battle packs with different factions are very outdated; besides the tatooine "battle pack" we haven't had one with different factions since 2013 with the old republic battle pack and clones v droidikas battle pack. So yeah, there's a possibility were it to have been a $15 battle pack that it could have been two privates and two jet troopers, or two privates, a jet trooper, and an ARF trooper. Would anyone really have complained (knowing this site, yes, but they probably complained about the current one too) The main thing, though, is that the one that is actually releasing is a $30 set with some extra stuff, so this whole thing is pointless. -

It's difficult to tell but looking at the images of her and then the images of blue lightsaber-wielding characters from the wave like grievous and rey, it seems to be the trans light blue. Nice! That's what, 66% of the full price? Also what store is this, and can I buy from it in the US? -

I meant on sale like they discount the price, i was quoting someone who said they would buy some for $25 once the winter sets leaked. I went on the lego site the morning they came out and it was already out of stock, I was only able to find them on the target store website and they took weeks to arrive. Not making the same mistake again, I'll get up at 6am if I have to . -
Yeah, it's surprising that with all the kashyyyk sets in the past 6 years we still haven't gotten stuff like the ornitherapter or tank droid since before they started making so many kashyyyk sets. And thank you! I ended up taking a much longer break than I was going to, but I'm working on the headhunter now. Any suggestions are welcome for sets from any era, but here's some ideas I've got. Playscale venator (this will be after the headhunter, probably): Roughly the same size as the star destroyer from 2014. Wookie defense: probably about 500-700 pcs, it'd have an ornitheraptor, wookie hut, and some separatist stuff. Rebel scout speeder remake: battle pack remake, this wouldn't take long so I'll probably just do it in a few days. Again, any suggestions from any era are welcome.

They seem to be used in translucent colors mainly in CMF sets, although there are a few exceptions like construction kylo. It's possible it has something to do with the slightly different plastic used in CMFs. Good idea though, I want to use one of those trans green ones for my yoda now! -

This^ They know the adult demand is there, and kids don't really buy too many multiples of a set anyway, even if it's a battle pack, so by making it $30, they increase profit. And I can't really blame them, they made a set based on a campaign by a minority of their fans, of course they're going to try to max out profit. I don't know that this set will go on sale anytime soon after release, I'm assuming this is going to make the mandalorian battle pack look like a shelfwarmer. -
"Impressive...Most impressive!" that is a seriously impressive model though, it looks like an absolute beast and it doesn't even have the plating yet.

Of course, but they can't say that outright in an interview. A designer saying "Yeah, we just wanted to squeeze more money out of the fans" would definitely get him at least reprimanded by lego. I can't help but agree, I'm thinking that there's more S7 content on the way. I'd say most are army builders of some sort, like there were lots of patrol troopers, imperial officers, etc, even if we didn't see hundreds in that scene. heck, we only see a few scout troopers, but a scout trooper pack would be an army builder. The mandalorian one too, it's just generic mandalorians to mix and match. That said, I agree there are some like the inferno squad and bounty hunter packs that are just for named characters. (even if they made Seyn a guy in the infearno one) -

I'd like that too, but seeing as we're down to two packs a year, I'd prefer it in addition to two army builder ones rather than a replacement. Also I did a similar thing with that set! Bought two, and then parted out the jedi figures for some civilian parts, jedi parts, and mirialan/cereans for my rebels. -

@Renown has been reliable as far as I remember, so I'd guess something Ponda Baba and Dr evazan related is coming. I can't see one coming without the other either, so I'd guess it's a small set if not the d2c. "Are we blind? Deploy the #wewantagonkdroidbattlepacks!" In all honesty if they don't mind this sort of thing I think it would be a good idea to let them know what the community might want, though definitely not to the extent of the 501st battle pack. It's really interesting to me that they say that not all battle packs have to be army builders, I wonder if they're hinting at something. -
@Kit Figsto that'd be a great cantina MBS. I do almost hope the set is just a smaller one though, just because I want to stock up on aqualish heads. For some reason i want a midi-scale landspeeder, like the slave one from cloud city, I'm not sure why. a 501st legion type set for every faction (note: the 2 battle droids in the set are replaced by allied droid-type builds for factions from other eras, just because the resistance, rebels, and first order don't have combat droids the same way the seps do.) All would be $29.99 and probably never be released but I thought it'd be a fun idea. Separatists: Separatist droid legion: 3 b1s, b1 commander, 2 b2s, 2 clone troopers (p2 shiny). Builds are a dwarf spider droid and larger crab droid. Republic: Grand Army of the republic: 3 p2 shinies, p2 commander (grey as secondary color) with new helmet mold with visor, 2 commando droids. Build is an accurately sized AT-RT along with a barricade and BARC with sidecar. Builds use the traditional GAR coloring of grey with red accents. Rebellion: Rebel Alliance troopers: 3 rebel fleet troopers, captain a la captain antilles, astromech droid, and Gonk droid. Builds are a modified x-34 landspeeder with a minigun mounted on the hood like in battlefront two, and a sniper's nest. Empire: Imperial stormtrooper corps: 4 stormtroopers, one with an orange pauldron and one with a black pauldron, as well as 2 KX series security droids. Builds are a speeder bike and AT-PT. First Order: First Order stormtroopers: 3 first order stormtroopers, first order megablaster heavy assault trooper, first order security droid (phasma has one in battlefront two, they're also in an episode of the resistance show), BB-9e. Builds are a treadspeeder and very downsized LIUV. Resistance: 2 human resistance troopers, 1 mirialan resistance trooper, one quarren resistance heavy, bb-3, Gonk droid. Builds are a speeder bike and df.12 com turret. Mandalorians: (note: subdued colors to go along with their appearance in the series). Reddish mandalorian, greenish mandalorian, Pax Vizla-type mandalorian, orange-ish mandalorian, gonk droid, ferry droid. Builds are sized-up versions of the battle pack builds. Scum and villany: human smuggler (dark brown and dark tan, klatoonian thug (dark bluish gray and reddish brown), weequay gangster (dark tan with dark green accents), bounty hunter with a partial set of mandalorian armor (gunmetal, dark brown), and 2 IG units using a mix of dark bluish gray and dark brown. Builds are a swoop bike for the bounty hunter and small encampment. I'll probably do more later, these are fun

The UCS the only other set we know is coming this year besides the 40th anniversary set that may or may not have been a convention exclusive, so either another set is coming or it's the MBS. Could go either way. I'd actually be more excited about the mini-wave, especially if it had a little cantina build with Ponda Baba and Evazan. -
This looks great! The techniques and shaping used in the hull of the ship are amazing, and you should definitely be proud of the sloped cabin, it's very well-made. The only thing I would say is the engine diameter might be a bit too big at the front of the engines.

Oh yeah, I know it's the cantina scene where ben slices Ponda Baba's arm off, I'm just trying not to get my hopes up too much. Between the celebration exclusive, rumored $40 set, and possibly this, there's a whole mini wave we might see. The other idea, that the shuttle rumors were false and it's the cantina, would be even better, that'd be an amazing set. Mosaic wise I was thinking p1 clone p2 clone, stormtrooper, FO stormtrooper could work, too. -

Agreed, a mix between eras is always nice. Trying not to get my hopes up but... ANOTHER set this year! Either that or it's the 2hy d2c, which would be pretty cool too. *lightsaber noise* *Ponda Baba's arm bleeding on the floor* -

The reference book should come out in a few months, I'm sure she'll be in that. IMO this mosaic is better than half the sets releasing this year, not that there are particularly bad sets this year, the mosaic just looks so cool. Can't agree about the battle pack, but I do like the new promos, again with revan as an exception. I've actually been reading up on revan and he's just such a cool character, I hope we get some more KOTOR content in canon now that revan is technically canon. the mosaic has an option for each trilogy.... and the new wave has 4 prequel sets and 2 each OT and ST. (3 if you want to count mandalorian, but I feel like it's sort of it's own thing and not as connected to any trilogy as much as clone wars or rebels) The plurality of sets this wave are prequel. -

I mentioned this to you before, but maybe you'll understand the way @jdubbs puts it? Also, the mandalorian battle pack isn't inaccurate, they're based off the show and the green one specifically has had other merchandise for her. I completely agree. It's insane to be upset at a new line for adult star wars fans, one that doesn't take away from the current sets we're getting, because the set you personally wanted didn't come out? In that case, I hate the mosiacs because I'd rather have a rebel friend polybag and a UCS Gonk Droid . -

So you don't like them because....they exist? I'm not going to try to fight you on the rest of this stuff, but I will say two things you seem to have missed. The mosaics are a new line, and as such we aren't getting less SW sets directly because of the SW mosaics. It's like the brickheadz, brick sketches, etc. I wasn't aware of any plates, cups, etc for lego star wars, but if they exist I would once again say they're not taking spots actual sets would have had. Yeah, they're in some DC set. They're about 20 cents each on bricklink, less than kylo's saber. I bought a few for temple guards a while back. Exactly. the "why would you buy a lego ____ when you can buy a non-lego _____?" makes no sense to me. It's because it's lego. -
I hold by the commander in the most expensive set, since he's the highest rank for a trooper, but you're right that not many people actually care about that. I really like the geonosis wave idea, so here's some more sets in addition to the existing ones to fill out a geonosis wave. From previous wave: AT-TE and Hailfire microfighters, duel on geonosis. Updated/new set descriptions: Geonosian starfighter vs jedi starfighter microfighters ($19.99): Obi-wan and a geonosian (no wings) Clone battle pack ($14.99): 3 clone shinies and a clone sergeant. Build is a command center like in clone troopers vs droidekas. (edited to make more realistic build and add replace the captain with a private.) Geonosians battle pack ($14.99): 2 winged geonosians, geonosian (no wings), 2 b1 battle droids. Build is some geonosis spire terrain. Nexu fight ($8.99) Brick-built nexu with Padme and a super battle droid. Droid legions ($29.99): Dwarf spider droid, orray. Comes with 3 b1s, b1 commander, 2 b2s, and 2 clone troopers. (Edited to remove geonosians for a more realistic figure count.) Hailfire droid ($44.99): larger Hailfire droid with Clone Captain, Mace Windu, 2 b2s, and a clone trooper. Battle for geonosis ($69.99): new tank droid design, Ackley, and BARC speeder. Comes with Obi-wan, Pablo-Jill, Clone Commander, Jango fett, Sun Fac, and 2 geonosis b1s. (edited to swap some figures around) Pentaki arena ($89.99): Build with some stands and the gate with balcony above it, as well as the three pillars. There's a separatist meeting room under the stands. Comes with Count Dooku, Wat Tambor, Poggle, 2 b2s, 2 geonosians, Yoda, Bultar Swan, and Anakin. AT-TE ($99.99): AT-TE with Padme, Clone trooper(x6), 2 b1 droids. A rebel friend polybag with a minikit mini build should be the skywalker saga promo. I would totally buy the game for that, and I wouldn't even play the game! I hope the ghost will show up, the b-wing seems almost inevitable too. I would like to see the u-wing UCS too, it seems likely, there's not much else they can do for the OT and anything prequel before they can judge the success of the gunship, which itself won't release until may 2021 at the earliest.
