LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Good idea. or: 4+ juniors microfighter duel on bespin: Luke's landspeeder and luke's snowspeeder with no figures. I had the exact same reasoning when I voted. I'm even bricklinking the parts for an LAAT/i, and I'll fill it with the 501st pack figures. Only expensive parts are the turrets ($40 each, I'll probably just use the unprinted version), and the sticker sheet. This is sort of why I think the gunship will fail. Not that there's anything wrong with you just wanting to see the gunship but not planning to buy it, but if enough people who voted don't buy it, lego will think the gunship failed and we won't get much prequel UCS anytime soon. -

Don't get me wrong, I want more prequel UCS. As I've said before, I love the clone wars and revenge of the sith, heck, I've been digitally making sets for the siege of mandalore and posting them on this forum. I know you care more about the model than the figures, and so do many others, but multiple people in this thread have already stated that they wouldn't buy the set if it didn't have an "army of clones". What I'm worried about is that those people make up a large enough number of the gunship votes that when the set comes out with realistically 2-5 figures, those people won't buy it and lego will see it as a failure. And yeah, some kids are absurdly spoiled, but kids usually care more about the figures, which I think is the problem. I've got a bad feeling about this... I'm still wondering how this set is able to be released at brand stores if it was meant as a celebration exclusive. Did they make more copies? -

I mean, I'd buy a rebel capital ship (I've got the 2014 ISD), but other than that probably not, and that's my point. People in their teens or collage-aged might love the clone wars and want a Gunship UCS, but can't afford to spend $400 on it. This is something I haven't been able to articulate right, but I completely agree with. I gurentee once the gunship is revealed and has, say, 2 pilots and jedi bob, there's going to be a #notourgunship campaign or something like that because some people are thinking it'll come with tons of clones. Not sure if this is a regional thing, but where I live toddlers take up much more time and money than teens. Also, this is a great example of what I'm worried will happen. You say you want "an army of clones that could not be found anywhere else", which is completely unrealistic. UCS ships rarely have more than a few figures, the only ones I can think of in recent years are the falcon and the tantive. Probably. This also gives me hope that it's wide-release, they wouldn't bother shipping it out to brand stores if there were only 250 or so copies, they wouldn't even be able to get a single copy to every brand store. This is probably one of my most-wanted sets, it's the most iconic scene in star wars. -

You seem to have this theory that lego and disney are conspiring against the prequels, which I don't think is true. Everything else aside, lego and disney are companies, with the sole express goal of making money, because that's how companies can pay their employees and shareholders. So why would they purposely lose profit by ignoring a portion of the fanbase? Also I'm not sure where you were looking, but I got a ton of ads for clone wars season 7. Every youtube ad for WEEKS was the "witness the end" tv spot. (not that I'm complaining!) Yeah, it's somewhat strange. Exactly. I LOVE the clone wars and ROTS, but I'm not going to spend $400 on a gunship or $700 on a venator. -

For more OT stuff I'd add an AT-AT, Luke's Landspeeder, and a TIE bomber, but I agree there's not too much left, even with that list, as the TIE bomber isn't exactly iconic (though not really less than a b-wing or a-wing). Technically, yes there was the UCS delta-7, but I can't imagine that sold well. @jdubbs does a good job explaining this, but I'll try to add to it. We only have had one real UCS prequel set (I'm not counting the system-scale n-1 with chrome bricks), because most people who were late teens or adults when the prequels came out hated them, and I assume the delta consequently sold poorly. Now the people who saw the prequels as kids are older, so there's potentially more demand for prequel stuff. The fan poll and gunship is lego testing the waters, so it's not like we'd see prequels before then. It depends on the gunship gang actually buying the gunship. If it fails, lego might not many more prequel UCS. So it unfortunately does depend on the gunship to carry the future of UCS vehicles. see @jdubbs's comment about the venator, but I have to say I don't think any trade federation ships besides maybe the lucrehulk would sell well as UCS sets. I don't want to get to far off topic, but first off, I doubt we'll see stuff "1000 after" the sequels anytime soon, but while the high republic is only 200 years before the prequels there have been rumors of old republic films, so those might be the 2022, 2024, and 2026 films. (One last side not, of course disney has an appetite for money, it's a company, that's how they pay their workers and make profit for shareholders). But that's all somewhat irrelevant, as no matter whether or not that stuff's coming, it won't come in 2020. -

Congratulations on the kid! I get the annoyance at remakes, but 10 years between the sets seems like enough time to me, even if we only get a few UCS a year. At least it's not a snowspeeder. -
Thank you! The guavian torso would definitely work better for a non-traditional armor, although I might just buy more pauldrons to cover up the santa elements. The Mando with Goggles uses the back side of McCree's torso from overwatch, with the arms swapped out for pearl gold ones. Those arealight upgrades to the mandos look great, I try to only buy purist lego, but that Din Djarin helmet is tempting.

Yeah, it might be a bloodbath, but at least everyone can try for it, not just people who managed to get tickets. That's assuming they do a normal online release with only however many copies, though. They might just do a raffle for people who had tickets. -

Sounds great, it's got crazy aftermarket prices and the Lambda's a great design. Ugh, better than the CW eyes I guess. It's looking like the new rumored set is $40, a bespin duel, and/or a celebration exclusive. If it was a celebration exclusive, I wonder how they'll release it, since the celebration will probably be online this year. -

I think "stomp" is looking too far into it, it's just part of the song the count sings. it's either a clue towards Count Dooku, since the song is by the seseme street count, or the emphasis on forty, which I think is more likely. We unfortunately haven't had sets for the 20th anniversary of films (or prequel anniversaries), and even if we did there's no reason dooku can't show up twice within 3 years. Also, UCS sets don't tend to have "enemy vehicles" released alongside them. -
UPDATE: BATTLE PACKS AND DUEL. The next parts of the wave are the battle packs and duel set. The battle packs aren't all that interesting, as the focus is on the figures and I can't apply new prints with stud.io, but I like how the duel turned out. 332nd clone troopers battle pack ($14.99): The battle pack is 114 pieces and contains a normal phase 2 clone, as well as a variant each for the 501st, 212th, and 332nd. The 332nd wouldn't actually have an orange-red helmet mold, it's just to differentiate it from the 501st here since I can't add prints to the helmets. The build is a BARC speeder, I did my best to make my design as different as I could from LEGO's official design while still maintaining accuracy. And since it's a battle pack, I had to add the stud shooters onto it. Mandalorian warriors ($14.99) I saw the idea in the future star wars sets thread of a battle pack with 2 mauldalorians and 2 nite owls (Thanks, @ArrowBricks!), so this is where the general idea of this comes from. The set is 117 parts and the build, like most of lego's battle packs, isn't really based closely on anything, although I tried to make it look a bit like the tunnels. It's got two main play features, the exploding wall and the catapult to make the mandalorians "fly" with their jetpacks. Due to the lack of prints it's difficult to tell, but it would have a female nite owl, male death watch (like an update of the 2011 one), and then a male mauldalorian and female mauldalorian. Duel on Mandalore ($19.99): We've had a few duel-themed sets in recent years, so I made one for the duel between ahsoka and maul. To get the more intricate design of the windows I think it'd need stickers, but I tried to get the general idea across. The set is 196 pieces. Another render showing maul on his throne. I gave the build those hinge pieces for the same hinge the other duel sets have. There wasn't much I could think of play-feature wise, so it's mainly exploding windows, the main windows that explode right before they fight and the window ahsoka pushes maul through. Poor Maul, he's constantly getting knocked into pits or out windows by force users. . Next up will be a 300-ish piece mandalore battle, then the battle of yerbana. I'll probably try a headhunter build as well, though I'm not sure I'll build the gauntlet starfighter and venator.

Both the buildings and podracer look pretty good. I especially like the police droid/drone, and the drunken Jawa is hilarious.

Welcome to Eurobricks! In a way, you're right in both respects. The next wave is almost certainly in January 2021. Maybe a wampa cave, although if it is a $40 set it would probably include another snowspeeder. I'm starting to think I was way off the mark with count being count dooku. none of his options really make sense, I think the point was more so the emphasis on forty. I would love a GR-75 too, but if it is $40 like leaker @Renown suggests, then I'd really hope it's not. -

That makes more sense, I was completely off the mark with “count”. Completely forgot it was ESB’s 40th. @jdubbs quoted my response to @MandRproductions hinting there were more sets than what we know of, so I don’t think it’s the D2c. However, you’re right in that it’s probably not a duel either. I’m thinking I got the wrong point from the clue and it’s more likely the number 40, for esb’s 40th, as others have speculated. Not sure what it would be though, especially if it’s $40 as @Renown suggests. -

A battle pack sized-set with 4 figures and a small build, not explicitly a battle pack, sort of like some LOTR/hobbit. sets back when those still came out. to stay on topic, the solar sailor makes sense, although I’m not sure they’d do two $60-100 separatist leadership ships in the same few months. I could see another geonosis duel, too, maybe an invisible hand duel. I feel like for “count” specifically to have been the clue, it’s got to be something dooku’s connected to and has screen time in, as opposed to an LAAT with Dooku thrown in or something. I wonder if “forty” has something to do with it, too, or if @jdubbs just used a random number for the purpose of completing the song. -
Clone wars Seasons 4-7 wave: no siege of mandalore sets, since I made a wave for that arc alone. microfighters: Ahsoka’s eta-2 ($9.99): Ahsoka tri-fighter ($9.99): rocket B2. Might be a difficult build were it a real set. y-wing (red) versus MTT ($19.99): clone pilot (p2) and b1 commander Battle packs: Curuscant guard ($14.99): 2 coruscant guard, One of those clone guards with the dog thing, Fox. Build is an accurate at-Rt. Droid army: 2 B2s, rocket B2, 2 commando droids. Build is a dwarf spider droid and some cover. duel: Temple duel ($19.99): anakin, Bariss Offee Smallish location set: Jedi temple ($39.99): small rendition of council chambers with sliding door and small area in front, sort of like final duel but smaller. Comes with Yoda, Obi-wan, and 2 temple guards. other sets: starfighter vs vulture droid ($49.99): ahsoka’s starfighter and a vulture droid, with Ahsoka, Rex, a droidika, and a commando droid. umbaran starfighter ($59.99): 2 umbarans, fives, Krell. MTT (blue, $119.99): 8 B2s, b1 commander, ARC Jesse Republic cruiser ($129.99): anakin, padme, thorn, Clovis, 2 clone crew, 2 b1s.

I really don’t get this sudden anger that there aren’t as many new mold this year. We had some sets without figures, and you can really only argue that one or two characters need new molds. i also completely agree about Ahsoka, I don’t think it’s different enough to warrant a new mold. Legos always been pretty random, but I’m still predicting at least a fallen order battle pack for January 2021. -

I agree. People see dual-molding on a few figures in a UCS or superhero set and decide its needed on every figure. There’s definitely figures it would be extremely helpful for, like the ones you mention, and it would be nice if the officers with boots had them too, but it’s not like every character needs them. -
Thanks you! The Y-wing was definitely a candidate for the Microfighter and probably one LEGO would have done I just couldn’t think of any way to make it besides more or less how LEGO made theirs, and didn’t want to just be lightly modifying existing stuff (which I ended up doing anyway with one of the battle packs) I’ll have the battle packs posted by Sunday, and then try to get the duel and location set up by Tuesday.

I think they’re the same as the juniors ones. Some of them sound like cost-cutting measures, I’ve kept in the other ones I think I can answer. the snowtroopers are missing their kamas so they can sit in the at-at arm printing is pretty rare among Star Wars figures, so it makes sense the only arm prints for the pilots would be in a UCS set. lego makes weird choices with hair all the time, it might just be that they think it works best for anakin. while I can only think of five new Minifigure molds for this year off the top of my head (3 knights, Jannah, Baby Yoda), no other figures this wave need a new mold. Maybe Ahsoka, but the Montral length isn’t that far off, it looks like they go almost all the way down her torso in season 7. -

It should look pretty good, I like it too. It's always nice to have some customization in the weapons, even if it's just a candlestick or a technic part, it makes it look like there's more than 3 blasters and a stud shooter in the theme. -

I like the theory that the suit is based off of the Miles suit from the main comic universe even within the game itself, since the game's Peter Parker is part of a spider-verse event with that Miles. -

Agreed about the pilots, currently there's only 4 x-wing pilot heads with the modern visor look. The happy/scared male, the happy/angry female, luke's, and the Theron Nett head that one came in one set 6 years ago. Biggs and wedge at least need unique face prints with the visor. It is weird and pretty annoying, would it really be that difficult to just have robes without the burn marks? -
When I saw the last four episodes of clone wars, I though they were pretty clearly trying to make it as if it was a movie, with the episodes picking up at the exact moment the previous one ended, the film-like intro at the start of the first episode, etc. So I thought it would be fun to make a wave of sets for it, since it looks like there'll only be two tangentially related sets for it officially. Although it's not at all what I expect the january 2021 wave to be, I chose the format of the sets based on the format of the past few january waves. 2 microfighters, a microfighter pack of two, two battle packs, a duel, a $20-30 location-based set, and around four other sets. I'm not sure I'll do the full wave I outlined in the "future star wars sets" thread, but we'll see. I also tried to make the first render for each set look somewhat like the front box art of a set, with the build posed and using some 8l bars as "lasers". PART ONE: MICROFIGHTERS: Gauntlet Starfighter Microfighter ($9.99): 84 pieces. Minifigure: Rook Kast The villians don't have many vehicles in the arc, since there's little space/atmospheric combat and the mandalorians all have jetpacks, but I though Maul's Gauntlet would work well at this scale. The pilot is Rook Kast, one of maul's lieutenants who pilots the ship in the Son of Dathomir comic, although not in the arc itself. All the figures are just giving a general idea of what they'd look like using the limited prints on stud.io. The primary sort of play feature in the set would be it's ability to have the wings flip up for it's landing position. When in flight mode, the wings are kept from pointing down by the 1x2 rail plates. AT-TE Microfighter ($9.99): 105 pieces. Minifigure: 501st Clone trooper. The AT-TE is an interesting vehicle to do at this scale. The 6 legs all use clip connections, so I have a 2x2 round brick in trans-clear at the bottom to keep it from collapsing. I've got a 501st clone trooper set as the pilot, who sits on top to man the main cannon. Headhunter Versus Tank Droid Microfighters ($19.99): 196 pieces. Minifigures: 501st clone pilot, B1 battle droid. This 2-pack is based on the battle of yerbana at the start of the arc. There isn't much to say about the headhunter, it's a pretty simple build. The original design I had was longer and more proportionate, but I changed it to keep the more chibi look of the microfighter line. This thing was a pain to build. It unfortunately doesn't have moveable treads, but I think it's somewhat accurate overall for the size. Even though it's a droid, it does fit a pilot, as the other droid microfighters (vulture droid, spider droid) fit pilots as well. That's all for now, but the battle packs are next and I can't see them taking long since the focus of those is usually just the figures. I'll probably do an ahsoka vs maul duel set and a location-based mandalore battle as well, but I'm not sure if I'll do the larger ones.
