LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Agreed, with everything here. A TIE bomber isn't any less playable than a Gozanti or republic frigate, sans maybe a bit of interior space. (even then, add some room in the second cockpit and bam it's a boarding shuttle and now has more playability than most capital ship sets). Agreed about the second part too, I mean I don't think disney's even remotely related to this thing. Heck, I don't think it's even corporate policy at lego that's responsible for this. The designers just have some really flawed logic in what they're saying. Aaaand agreed with the third point, too! The 2003 tie bomber is so outdated and inaccurate that it's like there wasn't one at all. I'd want a TIE bomber remake if the last one didn't have the 6x6 dish they've been using the last few years, much less if the last one was somehow blue and still used the old dark gray! First off, i don't get the "you guys" and "we" here. Most people here want both a new bomber and a lucrehulk. Also I dare you to look at the 2003 bomber and have the same opinion, It. Is. Blue. Why is it blue? What possessed the designers to make it blue? WHYYYY? -

I think in a way it's similar to the AT-OT (which, by the way, is the stupidest design in star wars. Literally one STAP, rocket b2, or even just a b1 with the high ground could massacre the troopers in there. Who, both in universe and at lucasfilm, thought that an open-top AT-TE made sense at all?), where it's a variant of a more well-known vehicle. I must have missed the playability argument but that's even more asinine than their "too niche" argument. A TIE bomber would have at least an opening cockpit, spring loaded shooters, and a bomb drop function. That's already more than the past few TIE fighters. Then you could easily add a sort of opening storage compartment somewhere, too. Seriously, it's like they don't remember their own sets! -

Yeah the night buzzard is too recent to get the iconicity of slave one, I was just saying it does have some screen time. Also, I didn't mean at all that those weren't great sets, just that the designers can't say the bomber is obscure when those much more obscure sets exist. Completely agree about AT-OT and dropship, and that's the point. The AT-OT isn't even IN clone wars, and it's one of the most expensive sets on the secondary market. I just don't get their logic. I'm hoping "buy everything day one" is a joke. Although even with that aside, the rest of the stuff these guys are saying is so strange. It's like you said, the designers don't seem to care. It doesn't even seem to be some sort of corporate thing, I doubt they're making the designers say this stuff. -
UPDATE: Republic Z-95 Headhunter Starfighter ($64.99): 637 pieces, 4 minifigures, 2 droids. This was a fun build, I've always loved the headhunter design, and thought the 2013 set didn't do it justice (and used one of those massive fuselage pieces, I hate giant specialized lego parts, they defeat the purpose of lego). I tried to make the model both accurate and stable/swooshable. Back view. One of the main play features: similar to the 2013 model, the headhunter has a compartment towards the back. There are clips for the pilot's gun and macrobinoculars, as well as that build with the 2x2 round piece to push down on as another play feature: The "concussion missile launcher", here two stud shooters, can be pushed down from the compartment into a firing position. The cockpit. Final view with all the figures: 2 501st pilots (would use the pilot helmet if that existed in stud.io), Cody (new mold with visor), Obi-wan, and 2 b1 battle droids. Let me know what you guys think of the model! Next up will be a small one, a remake of the 2008 rebel scout speeder, then I'll probably do a TIE bomber since the lego designers apparently won't. If you have suggestions for any sets I could do from any era, let me know!

Although the night buzzard isn't that obscure that's just a nitpick, I completely agree with your larger point. The Bomber is well-known enough, and even then, you can have never seen it before but recognize it's a TIE fighter variant. I think stability problems may be possible with the bomber, since it wouldn't have a stand like UCS sets. (I literally thought up a fix while typing this, if a random teen on the internet can in a few seconds I would hope someone who's job is to make these could). I'm starting to get really annoyed with the designers, some of these things they're saying are just plain stupid. (and seriously, "buy all the sets day one"? That's got to be a joke, right?) I guess my next MOC is a system TIE bomber, since lego gave up on it. Still holding out hope for an interceptor, as lo Or even things like the AT-OT with dropship, Gozanti cruiser (which I own and think is a great set BTW), Vonreg's TIE, Pelta-class frigate, Wookie Gunship, Coruscant police gunship, wookie Cartarman, etc. I agree with what you're saying, nothing against the other sets but you can't say the bomber is "too niche" when you've make sets like the above. Even if not all SW fans know the TIE bomber itself, even a 4 year old can pretty clearly tell it's a TIE fighter variant. -

I don't want to get too off-topic, but here's the link to the announcement. Same, I prefer the brick-built creatures but the molded ones look nice too. The bantha would totally look better with bricks, it shouldn't be too hard for them to scale up the microfighter. Did I miss something in that book? Garindan is just a pretty iconic mos eisley character (and to bring in the book that everyone's now talking about, he technically is in the cantina ), so even if it's not 100% accurate I could see them doing it. -

Oh, sorry for misinterpreting. I think a Duros molded head would be nice since their heads are somewhat taller than human heads, but I agree it's not needed for a new figure. Completely agree about the Givin though. I think the Chandra-fan, gotal, Acrona and Talz could use new molds too, but as long as the super iconic ones are there I'll be happy. (Ponda Baba, Snaggletooth, Hammerhead, Evzan.) Absolute pipe dream, but it'd be amazing if there was a walrusman figure. It's super unlikely because they'll probably just have the accurate ponda baba, but those old kenner toys are so iconic. Yeah, it's a really iconic place in star wars. You're referencing the From a Certain Point of View novel with Wuher's backstory, right? I loved that book, it added so much to the already great A New Hope. I'm glad they're doing one for The Empire Strikes Back and i'm hoping they eventually do ones for the prequels and sequels, too. I agree a ronto or new dewback would be great, although I'd prefer brick-build to a new mold. -

If we get one duros with a new head mold, we'll probably get the other too. That said they did just use a normal figure head on the duros in the rebel battle pack, so they might not get a new mold. I think two sandtroopers is the most likely outcome, probably with a black pauldron and an orange pauldron. I would love it if they included a Ronto, too. -
This rebel hovertank wouldn't happen to be.... possibly, a T2-B perhaps? Great wishlist, I'll try one. Although there are 4 sets from each trilogy (and a Gonk), these are actually the sets I would want most (within reason, no massive minifigure packs or anything). Microfighters: Poe's X-wing (TROS x-wing, $9.99): Pilot Poe and BB-8 TIE dagger ($9.99): Sith trooper. Wheel bike v boga ($19.99); Grievous and Obi-Wan (correct robes) Battle packs: Clone legions ($14.99): Correctly sized AT-RT, small barricade, 2x clone shinies, 332nd trooper, 212th trooper. Purge trooper attack ($14.99): Black speeder bike with red accents and trans-purple stud shooters, purge trooper, purge commander, second sister, Cal Kestis with BD-1. Duel: I am your father ($19.99): Bespin catwalk and small interior section with function for vader to "force push" things at Luke. Comes with Luke and Vader. Other sets: A-wing ($34.99): ROTJ a-wing. Comes with A-wing pilot (ROTJ), A-wing pilot (Squadrons), rebel technician, Admiral Ackbar. Separatist Might ($69.99): vulture droid (correctly sized), hailfire droid, 2x b1, 2x b2, b1 commander, 2x bx commando, Count Dooku, Anakin Skywalker, Captain rex, 501st clone trooper. Exogol ($79.99): Sith throne, sheev's puppet thing, area where kylo fights the knights, jar of snokes, small "transformation" type chamber for dead-ish palps to turn into reborn palps. Comes with Palpatine (dead-ish), Palpatine (reborn), Rey, Ben Solo, Trudgen, Kuruk. TIE Bomber ($89.99): TIE pilot, TIE pilot (squadrons TIE pilot), imperial technician, Captain Needa, Hoth rebel Soldier, Hoth Leia. Republic Gunship ($139.99): Republic gunship with correctly sized AT-RT at the back. Comes with 2x 501st troopers, Anakin, Ahsoka (Seasons 3-5), Fives, Rex, 2 501st pilots, 501st at-rt driver, 2 b1s, and a droidika. Statue: GNK power droid ($99.99): classic dark bluish gray with GONK droid with GONK droid figure. UCS: UCS Poe's X-wing ($299.99): Poe's Black and Orange X-wing with Poe Dameron and BB-8.

The battle of hoth is just a scene, isn't it? The cantina is easily the most iconic building in star wars (second most iconic if you count the death star), and although "just 1 movie scene" (and a scene in the mandalorian too), it's such an iconic scene with all those aliens that it makes sense it's getting a set. When I was a kid, I remember staring at the visual dictionary page on the death star, wishing I had it so I could stage a battle. I eventually did get it a few years ago (and feel no shame in admitting that I did, in fact, at least set up the figures as if in battle ). The death star was the only set of that type around when I was a kid, but just from my experience a cantina set would be a similar thing, like you say, where it's not so much the play features themselves as a place to stage a battle. -

This is what I'm expecting. A full or at least larger cantina, probably with a small mos eisley alleyway on one side. -
Thank you for posting this, I'll have to call the store in my area to see if they can do this!

Yeah, I think it's likely that most of the patrons can use minifigure heads or existing molds. I'd guess the new molds would be ponda baba, and maybe garindan and/or a few other aliens. I think it's also important to remember that there will probably be 8-10 spots taken up by existing figures. Luke, Ben, Han, Chewie, C-3PO, R2-D2, Greedo, Wuher, and a sandtrooper or two all seem like obvious choices. Add in some of the Bith band members and that's about half the spots taken up by existing characters that don't require new molds. The cantina rumors come from a leaker quoting the scene where ben kenobi chops ponda baba's arm off, I haven't seen any other rumors or leaks from reliable sources. -

I could see them including at least 3 bith. Going off of the 21 spots: Leaked by @Renown: Ponda Baba and Dr Evazan not confirmed but would of course be in the set: Luke, Ben, Han, Chewie, Wuher, Greedo. There'll probably be a few band members, a sandtrooper or two, and lots of the iconic alien characters like snaggletooth, hammerhead, etc. Maybe threepio and artoo. -

It's 1.4x the cost of assault on hoth (15 minifigures), and the same price as betrayal at cloud city (21 minifigures). I'd guess it will also have around 21 figures. -

Yeah, up to the point where we have three films, a 7-season animated series, and countless books and comics about a few lines from A New Hope. It looks like the D2C is the cantina this year, which I guess means the shuttle rumors were false. No, it's clearly a UCS luke's landspeeder with a 14-piece cantina side build! I'm of a similar opinion on the cantina set. It'll be a great set, but it's just not something I'm sure I'd buy. -

I don't think that comment was a clue, I think he was just making a joke about the language. So the shuttle rumors were false? MBS style cantina is something lots of people have been wanting for a long time, this'll be an interesting set. SW explained has a video where he says he thinks the series could involve Rex trying to save other clones, like wolffe and gregor, and maybe trying to save cody. -

Hadn't thought about it as the A-team, but it makes a lot of sense. The synopsis even says they're working as mercenaries during the series. "In 19 BBY a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for refusing to execute order 66. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Coruscant underground. Today, still wanted by the empire, they survive as soldiers of fortune. if you have a problem... if no one else can help... and if you can find them... maybe you can hire... The Bad Batch" I admittedly had to google search this, but more clues for ponda baba! -
He hasn't been online in 5 years, and the posts above yours are asking for instructions and from 7 years ago. I think you're going to have to try to reverse engineer it or find a different model.

I'm not sure about this show either, the bad batch are good as side characters, but I'm not sure they're strong enough to carry a show. The "right after order 66" bit of time is somewhat overused, but it will be interesting to see it from a clone perspective, which we've only seen in rebels 16+ years after Rots. This pretty much guarantees a few bad batch sets in 2021, which also means unless one is far along enough in the development pipeline we probably won't get one until them. -

Someone break the news to him gently, he might die of happiness. The idea that imperial head variation could lead to female stormtroopers/biker scouts makes a lot of sense. More variation in heads is always good. On the other hand... according to the battlefront 2 devs, all stormtroopers must be male and all biker scouts must be female. I mean, for mandalorian we 100% are getting/got at least 4 sets, all of which seem pretty accurate to me. (the blue mandalorian isn't meant to represent paz vizla, just a random mandalorian). And we also got two TCW sets for season 7. I'm guessing the reason we didn't get more is because sets for the animated shows don't seem to sell well. It's possible that anakin's interceptor and grievous's starfighter are there because although film sets the characters and vehicles are also in the clone wars, or that much like the mandalorian there are more to come. I hope so, I really liked that last season. You seem to have been somewhat offended by my joke. Just so you're aware, it was A: a joke, which wasn't even directed at you, and B: "fanboy" wasn't meant as "highly toxic language". I'd consider myself a star wars fanboy. -

We've got to get one soon, right? I'd say there's a good chance that one of the next few duel style sets will be yoda and dooku (instant buy for me, I still don't have the new yoda head style or a dooku), or maybe he'll show up in a different geonosis set. The odds are definately increased since there won't be any new movies for a few years so we'll probably get more sets based on the older films. I don't know if they'll do a 20 years of AotC, we didn't get a 20 years of TPM.

Between this and the 501st battle pack, I think we can say the reign of angry clone has come to an end! It's great! 4 different face prints for helmeted troops! This piece, this one, and this head are great as generic trooper heads, I'm glad we're getting different ones for the troopers in a set so it's not like all the imperial and first order troops are clones. I think one of the AT-AT pilots has a new head print, too! I don't want to fully wade back into this, but I feel like @jdubbs's logical comment that disney has no reason to sabotage it's sales isn't thinking "disney can do no wrong", it's thinking that a company that big isn't going to purposely shoot itself in the foot. As others have said, they didn't anticipate the success of fallen order, and lego may have been cautious to make another video game set. EA, Respawn, Lego, Disney, lucasfilm, blame whoever you want, I still don't think that pointing out disney isn't likely to try to malignantly sabotage a game they themselves are licensing is thinking they can't do any wrong.
