Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars
Mandalorianknight replied to TheAbsoluteSt81's topic in LEGO Star Wars
1 and 2: agreed, although microfighters have some use for pilot figures. (I feel like pilot battle packs wouldn't sell well, hence the chibi ships instead.) 3: I have to disagree here, I prefer it vastly when creatures are made using existing bricks, unless it can't be done with any degree of accuracy at the smaller scale. So while I get why we have molded tantauns, I hate the molded dewback because it could be made pretty well with bricks, and is instead just a giant specialized part, which doesn't feel very lego to me. 4: This would bug me too, except the lego seat piece doesn't really look much like the seating for most vehicles in star wars compared to some of the brick-built solutions. I don't remember if they ever go into it in the novel, but I think they kept their dress uniforms from their previous rank/job (Iden as a TIE pilot, hask as an officer, Seyn as an ISB agent, Del as an engineer), so I think you're right in that the outfit you chose would be the most accurate, at least from existing ones. Nice conveyex interior MOC, by the way, I remember when I first saw that MOC I was impressed by how "alive" you made the scenes inside the cars. We totally need a rebel iden, too.- 127 replies

Hammerhead Corvette "Lightmaker" UCS MOC
Mandalorianknight replied to azanderk's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The physical build was impressive enough, but the changes like the landing gear improve it vastly. This is one of the best MOCs of any capital ship I've ever seen. I agree about stud.io too, it's similar enough to CAD programs that it's easy to understand. -

That would be cool. They wouldn't have to worry about it fitting a minifigure and could focus on getting the proportions exact, and it would also mean that x-wings wouldn't have to go for $90 (Not that they should anyway...). A midi-scale fleet series of capital ships with micro scale starfighters could be cool too.- 127 replies

That's a pretty good design. I wish LEGO would make these, they could easily be half the price of the 2020 set or less. That said, it's impressive your model is smaller but still more detailed than the lego model in some ways. Have you built this in real life, if so how's the stability?

Same here. I think it looks pretty good for the most part, but the mouth is super off to me, makes him look like a gremlin. I'm not a huge fan of the eyes, either, though I can't tell if it's a print or just something they edited on for the box art. At least it's not ketamine-addicted yoda like last year. -

Yeah, it's hilarious! If I don't get the game (and it does look much better than I expected, I don't remember lego games having FPS elements), I'll have to bricklink the figure. IMO it's a great choice, it's something on-brand with their humor and a good figure, but not something that people would be upset is exclusive to a game. -
$5 shipping? To Antartica? I'd go for the 2014 snowspeeder, there have been very few changes between that and the 20th one. @Csaba's suggestion should work too, especially since you said you were planning on putting the assault on hoth stickers on it, which means you don't need to get the 20th set's stickers.

Nearly impossible in america, from other posts on this forum it's supposed to be pretty tough in most of europe too. Picked up one bespin duel from target since they sold out on the lego website. I'm going to try and get another copy. -

What's up with the republic "open circle" fleet symbol on the lego resistance A-wing? -
From what I can see, a figure would be able to stand leaning over the handlebars, but you might have to remove the hands.

Mandalorianknight replied to TheAbsoluteSt81's topic in LEGO Star Wars
First off, thank you! I agree with your point on the crawler and defender. The amount of kids reading the dark horse comics or playing empire at war was probably low enough that those sets didn't sell well. The interceptor, on the other hand, feels iconic enough, they should make it. It'll definitely be one of my next MOCS, at least. Sorry, I meant system-scale. The interview was very recent, but their points were along the lines that, as @TeddytheSpoon says, it would be pretty expensive, as well as a lack of play features. (I dispute the latter point of the designers, the bomber has at minimum 3 different weapon play features you could make.- 127 replies

(Raises pirate flag) "I will make it legal" That is a good point, making a ton of mando sets in november-january wouldn't bode well for sales in countries where the show is still 4-6 months away. (Especially when the target audience, children, don't know how to access the show though sites some would consider to be....unnatural) Oh, that makes sense too. I'm sure we'll get a set or two in january 2021, and then one or two sets per wave in the rest of the system waves for a while, at least while the show remains popular. (and since they've already confirmed season 3, it's not like there's much risk it'll stop airing anytime soon.) -

Oh, they know. The designers said they won't make another one, and also to "buy everything day one". Oh no I definitely agree there, they're the "coolest" good guy faction primarily to lego's target audience, kids, probably because Lucasfilm wanted them to be popular merchandise. (I feel like that may have something to do with why they look like toys, too) Stormtroopers and mandos are always going to be better at the "imposing armored soldier" thing. Good to see a fellow fan of the fleet trooper! Unpopular opinion: the summer 2020 wave was the best wave in a while and as a whole was better than most, if not all, of the 08-13 clone wars waves.- 127 replies

They don't even need an excuse for those figures not showing up yet, since season 2 is in october. Lego's next wave isn't until january 2021, and they could easily have a mando set or two in there. -

Agreed. I grew up on TCW, and my parents showed me the original 6 films when I was too young to really understand what was going on in them. The OT has been my favorite trilogy since I was old enough to understand the plot. You do bring up an interesting point about the "coolness" of the good guys, I'd think lego would want clones on shelves at all times, since they're commonly agreed upon as the coolest looking faction, but they don't, really. Also agreed about the prequels conducting themselves better to playsets (or at least most playsets, I think Hoth and the Final Duel will always make great location sets), stuff like pentaki really needs to be released as a set. Speaking of the clones being the "coolest good guys" and this being the unpopular opinion thread: I like the rebel fleet trooper design more than I like the clones'.- 127 replies

I'm almost certain we'll be getting more mando sets, they initially didn't do much due to poor sales for the animated shows, but after seeing the success of the series I guarantee they're working on more sets. It appears to be more gunmetal in many of the promo shots due to the lighting, but you're right it's too dark for the actual color. The eventual full beskar version would ideally be silver. -

1. I sort of agree, sometimes it's nice to have a ranking trooper but other times the officer's inclusion makes no sense. 2. This isn't an opinion, it's just a falsehood. A massive company such as lego would never do something like this, where they don't gain anything but lose profit. 10. The original trilogy is the most famous, most well-recieved, and IMO the best trilogy. Almost all children that have seen star wars have seen the original trilogy, and so it makes perfect sense that juniors OT exists. Kids that young rarely pick out their own toys, anyway. 17. Agreed, Mandrproductions is fine and all but some people treat the guy like a god. This isn't something specific to lego either, in general the younger generation cares more about what some famous person tells them to do than what logic tells them to do. I completely agree. The $25-30 playsets are ok, but there need to be more big playsets.- 127 replies

Agreed. I love TCW, but some people have the idea that we need every set to be clone wars, or that we need a battlepack for every legion.- 127 replies

Out as in released, not out of stock, sorry. -
Can confirm the backorder for the 501st set. Going to backorder within a few hours of going live (did it go live at midnight CT, or was it more like 3am?) is still pretty impressive though, especially considering it's been out at targets for a few weeks so most people who really wanted to get theirs ASAP could get them there.

Just picked up 3 copies of the 501st set, finally, even if they're on backorder and won't ship until mid september. All the star wars sets except for the bespin duel are out in the US now on the lego shop.com -

It does look like a B1 head without a neck, but Wookieepedia lists it's sensor color as red, leading me to believethat red dot is in fact it's eye. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/B2-series_super_battle_droid It would be nice to see red eye print on the B2 in the future, however we have no evidence B2s are going to be in any sets in the january wave. -

Some new book has leaked where yoda has a new torso print. The torso would work well for a rebel soldier if it wasn't for the olive skin tone at the top. -

This was apparently done because someone claimed the razor crest name already? I don't know what that person's plan is besides getting into a court battle with lucasfilm... Besides your suggestion of separate moving legs, there isn't anything I can think of. For the separate moving legs, it could be done pretty easily with only changing the torso mold slightly. Lego could make the bottom of the torso mold more like the skeleton mold, and then just have separated legs like grievous or skeletons. -
Thank you! I'm a big fan of the rebel battle pack as well, I may have mentioned this before in the thread but I've bought wayyyy more than I should have off of ebay. UPDATE: TIE/sa Bomber Imperial TIE/sa Bomber ($129.99), 1195 pieces "Eradicate the rebellion with the imperial TIE bomber! Load the bombs and spring shooters, place the pilot in the opening cockpit, and launch into attack! This Star Wars set includes the TIE/SA bomber as seen in The Empire Strikes Back. The set's features include an opening cockpit, storage area, and bomb bay, as well as firing spring shooters and bomb drop function. Included in the set are two Stormtroopers, two TIE pilots, an imperial officer, hoth rebel soldier, Han Solo, and rebel officer leia organa!" (in the zoomed-in images, the parts to press down on or turn to activate functions are shown in RED to make the functions more clear. In the rest of the images, they're shown in the colors they would be were this an actual set.) The idea of this project started a month ago when, as the third in a series of interviews in which the designers gave some confusing and irritating answers, Lego stated that they had no plans to make a lego TIE bomber due to the size and how "niche" it was. I then set out to make the bomber at as low a price as possible in the style lego does. At 1195 pieces, or $130 with how lego prices things, I didn't entirely succeed, but hey, you can't tell me the bomber is less iconic than kylo's shuttle or the gozanti. I'm pretty happy with how the design itself turned out, however, especially at making it in a way that it fits with the most recent TIE fighter and Striker models. There's a fair amount of functions, with bombing and storage in addition to the basic cockpit opening and spring shooter launching functions. The storage area was made just because of how much extra space there was in that cockpit module, so I wanted to use it for something. The bomb drop function was a headache to design, but can successfully hold and drop two bombs. The "wings" are supported by plates to stay in the position they're shown in. Let me know any suggestions or comments on the model, and especially any suggestions for what I should do next!
