  1. I'm baffled that this will fit in the geometric limits of this contest, whoa! I am really looking forward to this, the string guidance via the selector switch is really neat ;-)
  2. Incredible start already, the rear part is so compact yet so functional and looks great, too! I guess a pneumatic lifting of the front bucket couldn't be done due to scale limitation and the interfering mechanics of the bucket tilt?
  3. Really like the idea and I am big fan of mining machinery, so I am curious how this turns out :-) What wheels will you use? The tipping for the bed will put very high stress on the lillte axle connectors, the might even break.... is there no other way? Maybe with pneumatics and automated switch?
  4. Really nice chassis for the truck :-) Side not: Please rescale the picture to a maximum resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels.
  5. Seems fine to me. I am not a big fan of covering up technic pieces with system bricks, but the clean look is really something to admire! :-)
  6. Hi guys and gals, as I've never build a Dozer, this was the first model that came to my mind when the rather "blocky" design restriction were given by Jim. This one will loosely be based on smaller Liebherr Dozers (PR 736 for example): So far, I've tried different track configurations and settled for the smaller tracks, as the 5 stud wide ones would be just too big: Planned features are: - fake engine (strangely, it always comes down to 3 cylinders in my recent builds...) with diff - 6-way blade with inside mounted push frame, actuated by small LAs for: Raising, angling and tilting (maybe one of the latter functions will be left out according to so little space available... - rear ripper, just raising/lowering At first, I thought about going pneumatic on this one, but the available pneumatic cylinders are either to small or too big in the specific scale :-/
  7. This idea is resting in the "ideas" files for like half a year, so I ain't that fast... :D But it should be possible. Given the width of about 15...16 studs and a height of about the same, there should be no problem to make a 40 stud long model. Really looking forward for this! ;-)
  8. Hmm as you mentioned, the original had 82 mm tires, too. So the new 81 mm tractor tires from the zetros and the 56 mm jeep tires should be fine :-) On my to-do list is a backhoe with exactly this configuration (but is too big for this competition :D):
  9. At first glance I thought this will use just a normal bucket tilt but at the closer look, it's a boom underneath the bucket, right?
  10. If think construction machinery includes earth moving vehicles as dumpers, dozer, .... :-)
  11. Good idea from my perspective. I think some really experienced builders with gold medals would be challenged to participate AND newer builders wouldn't be encouraged. So same voting scheme (formula 1), but in the end two rankings?
  12. For starters, you need some official models to figure out basic building principles and also find out some dos and don'ts. You have to get a knowlegde of basic parts. This skillset is not a requirement, but more of an experience you gain while building more and more technic models. I'd recommend the "rebrickable" homepage and find alternative models (C-models) of official Lego models you already have and build them, many instructions are for free. The first thing for MOCing (at least for me) is the question: What models am I missing from the current line-up and therefor have do be recreated in Lego technic? Following this question, you mostly will recreate certain machines or vehicles you are interested in. Get inspiration from the world around you. But, and this is crucial: Start with small builds to get a sense of stability. Building more complex stuff will be easier a virtual build besides the real one. I'd recommend the software Stud.io https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/download.page If it comes down to stuff with wheels, you should always define the scale and check, what wheel/tires are available. You can also use sariels scaler: http://scaler.sariel.pl/
  13. Where is the TC22 thread, Lebowski? Is there a chance we can start building this weekend? ;-)
  14. Hmm for construction machinery, this would not be good. Some are long but narrow (mobile cranes, graders, trucks), other tall (forklift) and some very wide (dozer). So the limit in CS are fine. On a site note: Let Jim some peace of mind, he can't fulfill every wish ;-)
  15. You mentioned this limit earlier: Are we really talking bout 20000 cubic studs? This would be a cube with 27 studs... seems fairly big in my opinion. I just checked some official models and it's nearly the scale of the 42125? So rather far from a small build :D
  16. But this axle pin has friction? Better use the black 3L (2L axle + 1L friction pin):
  17. Thought about that, too. But I think it's hard to define, what a "sensible function" is... According to Lego, sometimes a movable rear mirror on a single pin is a function. If this would be the voting criteria, we will get ugly builds with tons of functions but not really elegant MOCs :-/
  18. Second this. Some suggestions (not accumulative): - Rather than framing a theme, maybe something like "At least 3 functions, which can be e.g. steering, fake engine, use of gear/rack/actuator/pneumatic function" - Prohibition of building a brand vehicle, must be something unique. This is quite hard though... also maybe some discussion of what is allowed... - Should be a future/completely automous vehicle
  19. Looks very good, especially the steering mechanism! Do you have full steering angle even when the axle is angled/oscillated? :-) Do you have enough space on the middle actuator so position the gear on the side via bevel gears? Would be in better reach as imho.
  20. The TC18 was on 30 mm wheels... or do you mean 30 mm tires?
  21. Already news about an upcoming contest? Finally, I have some free time coming up during easter... Edit: This is not a pressure post :D
  22. Nice animations! One suggestion: Can you use a gearbox so slow down the motion a little bit? Sometimes it's easier to see it in slow-mo.
