Ok, while we are talking about Smaug, here is something for the Lego historians among us: Has there ever been a 1) bigfig or special animal mould, which is 2) iconic and in 3) the biggest set of a theme which is 4) licensed? I cannot think of any. The T-Rex in Dino comes close, but that is not licensed. Any ideas? If not, Smaug is the first in that category.

I can't believe these prices on bricklink. Even the regular green dragon goes up to 60 Euro. Maybe I should start treating mine better. But this has nothing to do with LOTR, so we'd better change the subject. I have spent a lot of time for chasing dragons for good prices, that is why I wondered how this will be when another very detailled dragon comes out. If a Smaug costs 30-40 Euro, it will not change the other prizes much I guess. I would have enjoyed seeing dragon-themed armies with lots of Smaugs and other dragons, but with these prizes this is not very likely. Anyway, this leads to even more speculation, which might not really bring up innovative topics for this thread.
-
Thanks for reminding me which places are for what. I must have forgotten, I should have consulted the topic police before. I thought discussing the impact of a new dragon model on the other dragon's prizes was an appropriate topic. Aren't we a joyous bunch? Floundie, I must have misread the set information, I thought Smaug came in a cheaper set. This changes my plans. Thanks.

I wonder if its a good idea to sell my Hungarian Horntail now. Surely the advent of Smaug will lead to a severe deflation in prices for dragons as he will be very detailled and cheap to have, Or will it be the other way around? Will people suddenly look for more dragons to accompany their smaugs? Will I be rich?!

Looks good! Is the lenght of the tube necessary or do you think it could be shortened by a few mm?

Hello & asking for set recommendations
Wardancer replied to Davidbarrena's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Keep in mind that often it is possible to buy sets WITHOUT figs on ebay. This can be quite a cheap source for bricks. The mines of moria set would be an idea. It has many small bricks and details. -
My first idea was to put the mammoths Head on an elephants (from the Orient theme) body. But the latter comes only in gray.
-
Could someone please develop a Way to use the action figs heads to make brickbuilt animals? I would like the mammoth and the white tiger to become regular giant animals. Edit: Forget the mammoth, the trunk makes it impossible to look normal.

Looking good! I am looking forward to seeing your army. Good luck with that. An idea to save money could be to use different torsos for those cases when an armor completely covers the torso anyway. This way you can use the expensive torsos for figs which do really show the torso.

Yesterday I thought by myself: Three Weeks without any new items, BW Must be on holiday. (No joke). Then the Newsletter came. Like the torch and the weird shield! -

Nooooooo! How many figs are we talking about? Sorry to hear that. -
IMHO they look really good, but to me most usages of cloth besides the regular cape looks a bit non-lego. The ice-zombie looks tempting, but nowadays there are so many chima-frozen-halfdead animals that I do not need it.

REVIEW: 71005 LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Simpsons Series
Wardancer replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hmm, I used to be a Simpsons fan, but I have grown out of it. So I am not buying these. But still, these figs are to be applauded because they open up the whole simpsons universe. Many MOCs will come up, which would not have happened without this series.- 118 replies

Looks good, nice picture. Making decals yourself is pretty customlike already. Interesting fig you chose. It expresses a certain maleness (beard, open shirt, big belt). Will this be used for marketing purposes?

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
Wardancer replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
No, not yet. The male core unit will be based on chima parts which are not available yet in Germany. I am thinking about a female core unit, I am thinking about how to get her skin white: http://www.flickr.com/photos/63704134@N07/sets/72157641515708913/ Before we get scolded for going off topic: I did not buy a single UrukHai army, but bricklinked and ebayed 12 Rohan warriors and 10 Eomers to make the Elvnoi Dozor regiment you can see in my sig.- 102 replies

The CMF Series a good way to get many different figs. Once you have mastered the "feeling" method to find out what fig is in the bag, 2,49 is a good price for a fig. Most of my army consists of modified CMF. Good tools are a scalpel, superglue, sand paper or nail polisher, maybe a dremel. The important thing is learning by doing. I have made every mistake in the (imaginary) book, including glueing my fingers together, accidentally painting the kitchen table, dropping a hand tailored piece of cape into a bowl of soup, cutting myself etc. But this is how you find out what works for you.

Some loose ideas: 1. Bricklink. I use it not only to buy, but also to browse the part lists. A lot. You want to build a green and white warrior? Check all torsos in white, all pants in white, all helmets, all weapons, all torsos in green and so on. Your mind will develop ideas. You will find gaps that can only be filled by painting (this armor just comes in gold, I'll paint it myself...) 2. Get to know third party products such as capemadness, brickwarriors etc. 3. Paint: I use Games Workshop Citadel and Revell paint.

TLG could make the Wyldstyle hood in dark green (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=15428pb01). This could be combined with pointy ears. (Which need to be painted yellow, which is a terrible work even for a customizer).- 102 replies

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
Wardancer replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for the offer! But I have decided to complete my army soon (at about 100 elves) and then start with a dark elf army with black and dark blue as basic colours, so my needs go into a different direction at the moment.- 102 replies

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
Wardancer replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That is the real merit of the MEA, making elves cheap on bricklink. I bought 3 MEAs and BLed the rest. Prices in the US are insanely low, it was even worth paying extra toll fees. Yes, Thranduils hairpiece is quite useless. Either there is a way to cut back the crown into a normal hair circlet or I'll have many useless hairpieces. Since Thranduil has the same green on him as the old mirkwood elves and some variations of Legolas, it should be easy to combine him with others. Capemadness for example has capes in an "elf green" colour, which might work well on them. I don't like the new mirkwood elves too much, so I restrained myself to buying only 9 as well because that is the size I decided for to make one regiment. nine09nueves 300 is a lot of elves! You should post pictures in the army building thread!- 102 replies

Thranduil cannot be turned into an army? Too bad I already have 9 of him. This will make a fine regiment of noble elves.- 102 replies
