  1. On the eastern end of the Main Street Shopping Center construction crews are hard at work adding in the final retails spaces. Personally, I'm hoping for a Taco Tuesday but the developers are keeping everything pretty tight lipped as to what will end up at the end of the street. Astute observers of our little city will notice the Brick Bank that has popped up in the shopping center to give First National a little bit of competition. Anyways, enjoy our little construction site and your thoughts/comments are always welcome. 2. Thank you for letting me know. I've consolidated everything into the new post shown below So please lock down any of the old posts if that helps keep things cleaned up. Appreciate your help and response - my apologies for jumping the gun a bit.
  3. We had been posting updates to our Inferno HQ separately and it was suggested that they might be easier to follow in a single thread. We agreed, so we're making this new post to consolidate everything into a single location. Each post/update will be started with its own heading showing the date. We've just cut and pasted the existing posts into this thread and eliminated the repetitive links to our pages on Flickr & MOC-Pages. Please click away if you'd like to see more of any particular update but as this continues to grow we'll leave those out as they're right here at the top if you need them. As always, we certainly appreciate you checking in on our progress and invite any comments and thoughts you may have. Enjoy! FIRST POST - 7 APR 2016 Godwins Hollow (our LEGO City) was originally started strictly as background for the ongoing struggle between the Agents and Inferno's henchmen. Over the many years that we've been working on our city we always pushed the actual Agent's HQ and Inferno HQ aside in favor of further fleshing out the city itself. However, after years of fiddling with it in LDD and a handful of proofs of concepts we have finally started building the Inferno HQ. We've started with the lowest level and hope to eventually have fully developed floors underneath the mountain and a partially transformable castle/attack post on top of the mountain. This is still in the VERY early stages but there are places to park the mechs and the hover jeeps. The interior of this hangar bay will be a mix of interior rock facing and more standard 'hangar bay' walls. Anyways, just wanted to throw this out here. UPDATE 1 - 25 APR 2016 These images never made it into a post but adding in these updates show a bit more complete picture of the project's progress. 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr UPDATE 2 - 3 SEP 2016 These images never made it into a post but adding in these updates show a bit more complete picture of the project's progress. 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr UPDATE 3 - 19 SEP 2016 These images never made it into a post but adding in these updates show a bit more complete picture of the project's progress. 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr UPDATE 4 - 22 OCT 2016 These images never made it into a post but adding in these updates show a bit more complete picture of the project's progress. 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ161024 - WIP - Inferno HQ by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr UPDATE 5 - 15 MAY 2017 So this has been a REALLY long-term project of ours but we're finally making some progress. Godwins Hollow was originally conceived as the place that the LEGO Agents would defend from the menacing henchmen of INFERNO! All respectable evil-doers need a secret lair and this is the start of theirs! Once it's completed we're hoping to have two full levels underneath the mountain, trap doors revealing weapon systems, launch bays, and all of the other despicable stuff an Inferno HQ should have. Once you scroll thru the pics below you'll be able to see we've made some significant progress on the base level both inside and out. The main hover jeep garage, mountain exit, and repair bay are all in place. There is a personnel elevator to take you to the command center and eventually on to the next underground level, and two mech bays for the Inferno mechs. So please take a look at what we've done so far and feel free to leave any feedback you'd like. Enjoy! UPDATE 6 - 21 MAY 2017 Our Inferno HQ is still moving along. The ground level to the mountain base is almost finished and we've moved on to one of the key areas of the second level - the hoverjet launch pad. The face of the mountain will open up to allow the launch pad to extend outside of the main bay area so the hoverjets can launch and be retrieved. There is a small control deck immediately adjacent to the launch pad and the hover jets themselves are stored vertically on automated transport drones. UPDATE 7 - 26 MAY 2017 Today's update is a little proof of concept for the transforming towers that will make up the castle ruin on top of Inferno HQ's mountain. This is our first castle build of any kind and while we are pleased with the result it may be fiddled with before the castle is finalized. As you can see the tower conceals the Inferno cannon which could easily hold Godwins Hollow ransom if the Agents don't keep things in check. Again, thanks for taking a look and your thoughts and comments are welcome. 170526 - WIP - Inferno HQ, Castle Tower by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 170526 - WIP - Inferno HQ, Castle Tower by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr 170526 - WIP - Inferno HQ, Castle Tower by Stewart & Sydney, on Flickr
  4. Thanks - but I'm just creating a new post and consolidating everything myself.
  5. Thanks! The three posts are below. Preferred title: MOC - WIP - Inferno HQ. 1st (oldest): 2nd: 3rd (newest):
  6. We're working on a large MOC (an Inferno HQ) and I've created a few posts about it already in varying stages of completeness. A commenter suggested that it might be easier to follow if I kept everything in a single post. Is there any way to combine all of my old posts or would it be simpler to just start a new one? I did a quick search on this forum and didn't find anything that jumped out at me. Thanks in advance for your support.
  7. Thanks for the comments. We're probably going to tile the plates in black - just haven't got around to it yet. See your point about the different control tiles so we might tinker with that a bit more. We're also completely on board with your last thought about a single post. Out of curiosity, do you (or anyone else reading) know if I can combine my posts or will I need to start a new one?

  10. After years of delays and due in large part to the renewed groundswell of public support the Godwin Space Center is finally fully operational and prepping for its first launch of our orbiter - Adventure! Thanks to the adventurous spirit of the people of Godwins Hollow the Godwin Space Center is finally up and running. Despite numerous setbacks along the way, the finished product is a marvel of modern space-faring technology. Situated on the north side of town adjacent to the soon to be completed Godwins Hollow Regional Airport the GSC boasts a state of the art mission control center, maintenance facilities, laboratories, a hangar to house the orbiter when it's not out and about, and more than enough additional features to keep even the most jaded space traveler interested! As we close in on the GSC you can very clearly see that the orbiter Adventure is on the pad. The superstructure has been raised and the good folks of the Godwins Hollow Space Administration are busy prepping for launch! The newly minted 'tallest structure in Godwins Hollow' is the orbiter's hangar. Not simply a box to pack the bird away when she's not out taking a quick spin around the block the hangar is packed to the brim with diagnostic and monitoring equipment to make sure the city's investment is always fully mission-capable. Moving into the GSP proper we start on the ground floor with the maintenance bay. Fitted with barn doors practically anything short of the orbiter itself can fit in here. The bay is considered by most to be one of the most technologically advanced facilities of its type. Fitted with robotic assist features, diagnostic tools, and customizable display systems this maintenance bay might make Tony Stark look twice. Upstairs a small but very well stocked warehouse is available to the technicians at any time. Moving up to the second floor we enter the Mechanical Engineering room. Mission Control might be the brains of the GSC but this is where the real work happens. The technicians here make sure that all of the orbiter's systems are fully prepped and ready to go. Fluids are monitored, pressures gauged, and all of the other 'dirty' work necessary to get this bird into orbit are taken care of here. While the technicians are busy moving about the orbiter everything that is happening on that superstructure is being monitored and controlled from this room. Again, fitted with amazing display technologies, sensitive monitoring and calibration tools, and one of the coolest sliding/spinning seat systems in town this is a great place to work. The 2nd and 3rd floors from above Every entity needs them and even the GSC has a small space for all for the admin offices. Also on the third floor is a small laboratory. It looks like two of Godwins Hollow's best and brightest are busy discussing the theoretical impacts of their latest project while an engineer has jumped right in and is making things happen! This is far and away everyone's favorite place to be at the GSC - the astronaut prep room. For those brave souls about to strap themselves into a massive controlled explosion in order to slip the surly bonds of earth, this is the last place they'll see before entering the orbiter. A swarm of technicians assists the astronauts in getting into the somewhat bulky gear and an industrial HVAC unit helps keep everyone cool and the entire room dust free. And before anyone asks - no those are not disembodied hands - they're gloves. After suiting up the astronauts can access the orbiter directly from the prep room. Finally, all the way to the top you'll find Mission Control. Every possible statistic for every possible variable is monitored, collected, and analyzed here. Hang out here long enough and you start to imagine you can predict the future! All systems are go for launch! As usual - more pics can be found on our Flickr page.

  12. In order to make room for the future home of the Godwins Hollow Regional Airport we had to get most of our planes in the air. Since tossing them back and forth didn't turn put to be a long term solution we decided it was better to try and hang them up. We still have a three man flight of the Agents' jets to hang but everything else that is going up is in the air. Pics are below or you check them all out here.
  13. Love the farm - we've been playing around with how to get some crops and a proper barn into our farm for a while. Will definitely be looking here for inspiration.
  14. So its been about a year since the last time we took stock of Godwins Hollow's growth and all in all it's been a pretty good year. We've renovated several areas - the Red Brick Pizza Oven, the costume shop, courier, and sporting goods store. We've added a travel agency and post office. Lockridge Estates and Lockridge Farms both got a makeover and we're sure there's a few other things here and there. Anyways, this is where are little city stands today. For all of the pics please feel free to stop by our Flickr page.
  15. Howdy! Yeah, I don't get it. Shipping is cheaper to here, the disposable income is here (although value is not respected as much as price is), and there is even a small LEGO community in Kuwait. But as most things western are sold on the same model I don't imagine they'll be changing things any time soon. Thanks! We're really proud of our police station and City Hall.
  16. My main reason is ease of part acquisition. I live in the middle east (Kuwait) and most LEGO products over here are sold in a dollar to dinar conversion - meaning a $100 set is sold at 100KD. Unfortunately 100KD is equal to roughly $350. So bad business practices/greedy b@stardary aside that makes local purchases a no-go. So then I travel on to eBay, CL, PAB, etc. for ease of bulk purchases. It's easier (read less tedious, time consuming, soul crushing) than digging through bricklink sites to gather mass quantities BUT I've found unless you're buying directly from a collector your MOC-useful part percentages drop with eBay/CL purchases and your price/parts range can be limited by PAB. Soooooo, then there are the official modulars. Good mix of bricks for what we build (City), decent price point, and easily attainable. That's why we have as many as we do. GG = 1 used without alteration FB = 4, 3 used in our Godwins Hollow Fire Department GE = 3 most used in our Expanded Grand Emporium PS = 4, 1 used without alteration, the blue half of three went into our Godwins Hollow Police Department TH = 4, 3 used in our City Hall PC = 1, used with interior moding in our Main Street Palace Cinema PR is on the order list but not yet here...
  17. Stunning building all around - thanks for sharing!
  18. We finally got around to printing and applying the actual stickers. Pics below.
  19. Very nice kitchen area, especially the taps...
  20. '@Bennemans: There's really nothing to it at this level - making a hand full for a MOC vs. making a full production run for resale. I would suggest either getting or getting access to a reasonably decent color laser printer - inkjet stickers are the worst. Hop on Amazon and look for transparent Avery labels - the last time I looked for full sheet transparent labels I to go with an off brand and they turned out ok (take a look here) but I would suggest sticking with Avery. Most times you won't need anything bigger than their biggest address label anyways (2in x 4in I think). As far as the sticker itself goes, create a transparent background .png of your sticker, make sure to put it in a box that is the size of wherever its going to end up (and cut off the box), make the sticker the full size of wherever your going to put it (2x3 window - make your sticker 2x3 - it makes the edge lines less noticeable and it's easier to get bigger stickers in place, print it using the highest dpi your printer can handle, let the stickers sit for at least 10mins before you start stabbing them with your fingers to get them in place, and try your best to get them in place the first time - otherwise they can start to curl. Oh, and if you can't find Avery labels do NOT go with anything that says 'food grade' - horrible glue that won't come off - ever. That's what I've found works best for me - hope it helps you.
  21. That's a really cool ship/sub. Thanks for sharing!
  22. I don't think it's particularly difficult but a large portion of what I do for a living revolves around redefining my client's marketing strategies and business capture methodologies (I help my clients look better as a company and get more work in the process). I use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop primarily for these little things. Honestly the toughest part is making sure I measure the pieces correctly so I don't end up with stickers that are too big or too small.
  23. Yours may have very well influenced mine - I looked around online and found very few double stacked machines - so thanks. We will print some stickers but apparently we're all out of transparent labels. I've got some on order but mail takes about 10 days to get over here so hopefully by mid August I'll be able to retake a few of the pics with actual stickers.
  24. Plenty of our builds have that same problem and sometimes we like the details of the building facade enough to give up the interior space. In our police station we added the extra depth on the outside of the ground floor windows.
