I don't have any specific advice but in a general sense I've got something that might help. We use a little piece of donationware called BlueBrick to plan out our city's layout. It has a library of parts, base plates, even folding tables that can help you plan out the best configuration for the space you've got. Once we've got the general layout done in BlueBrick we take that and throw it into MS Publisher to add in shapes and names. I've tried to add some pictures to show you what you'll get out of BlueBrick and then what we do with it but despite the images being .jpg and .png I can't seem to get them uploaded. Anyways, if you want to see an older layout file and the most recent you can see them here. Hope that's helpful.

We've actually got two double sided screens - Star Wars, Indiana Jones, 300, and Harry Potter - all of which are builds from others. There are tons of movie related builds out there and lots of great ones like the one shown. Unfortunately, I don't know the original builder.

Since my LEGOing partner is also my 11yo daughter when the Friends line hit a few years back it was immediately decided that we'd have to work the theme into our city and the Bubble Gum Beauty Salon was born. Hope you enjoy. You can see more here and here. Thanks for checking it out.

This is our mod of the Palace Cinema. Before the PC was released we had The Main Street Cinema but were so taken with the facade of the Palace that we decided to try and make our interior fit the new exterior. Our old theater wasn't a corner building so that took a little working out but in the end we only expanded the given Palace structure a few studs to make everything fit. We were very pleased with how well we were able to meld the two buildings. Hope you enjoy. You can see more of the theater here and here. Thanks.

@MWAH - we know what you mean about the orphaned clock face. In our old layout the front of the building faced a wall and you couldn't see the clock so it was a bit of an after thought. I've kicked around the idea of raising the base a bit higher and bringing the whole thing together in the center of the rooftop area but never did anything more than think about it. May give it a shot sometime and see what happens.

MOC - modular, modular, MODULAR my first complete one
dignow replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Town
Wow, really striking features on the building especially the inverted buttresses. The interiors are very well done as well. If I were asked (and I haven't been so take this advice for what you paid for it) I would add in some red and green stripes at the top of the building - nothing too much, just a pop, maybe remove the top two layers of bricks and lay down two rows of green plates, two rows red, and two rows white. Just to really brand it as an Octan building. Even without it really is a sharp looking building. Thanks for posting it. -
This is a really stunning build and presentation. Bringing so much character, light, and depth to such a minimalist build is flooring. The flow of the different spaces, the interior details, just the shape in general - absolutely inspiring. Thank you very much for sharing this.

Thank you for all the kind comments - we both really appreciate the support and encouragement. Brian Lyles and L.G. Orlando are two our favorite builders and have both heavily influenced our city. Please stop by both of their sites -Brick City Depot & Brick Builders Pro- and check out their amazing stuff. Brian has a new book out (available here) and LG has a ton of new building instructions and accessory sets.

This is actually the culmination of several builds as they came together to form a whole scene. Unfortunately, we've not decided where this will all live in the new layout so for the moment Godwins Hollow is without a beach party. You can see more here, here, and here.

Once we started joining online LEGO communities we found several really amazing hardware stores. Having the proverbial plethora of tools and other hardware store staples we decided to throw our hat in the ring too. Stewart's Hardware store is just about the only place in Godwins Hollow where the DIY Minifig can purchase these sorts of materials. Formally part of the East End Shopping District it's now located near City Hall. Here's a few shots of our store, hope you enjoy. You can see more here and here.

Thanks for all of the encouraging comments - we both really appreciate all of the support. Since the move we've not been able to get back in and take many new shots of where the City Hall lives now (boxes stacked to the ceiling in other rooms tends to limit our LEGOing time). As soon as things settle in a bit we do plan on getting back in there with the camera and taking some new shots. Unfortunately, Central Park (the park area in front of City Hall in the old layout) doesn't quite fit - well not all of it at least. We've not worked out exactly what will be squeezed in around the building and what will be moved elsewhere. Anyways, more to come in the future.

All cities need a creative outlet and a bit of culture. Godwins Hollow gets both at the L Art Studios & Gallery. The gallery is downstairs and the studio is up. You can see more here and here.

We're lucky enough to have space for our whole city to sit out so ours are dispersed in the city. Living in the sun and sand of Kuwait dust is a HUGE issue here. I've sealed the windows with industrial sealant, triple filtered the AC vent, and have recently decided that I'll keep the city under plastic unless Sydney and I are in there LEGOing. When we moved last month and had to disassemble the city I washed everything and it literally took almost two weeks - that's how filthy everything was. The image of our Expanded Grand Emporium below is actually one of the more "dust free" shots of the old layout.

This is a little dance studio for our city, Godwins Hollow. There are two studios, one for group performances and another for more advanced students requiring one on one instruction. Enjoy. You can see more here and here.

The law offices of Pearcy, Luney, and Stewart are strategically located immediately behind the GHPD building in Godwins Hollow. Originally the building was located outside City Hall and only shared a wall with one building - hence the greenery on the other side. Since we've moved it has a new home but we liked the little planter box enough to keep it. We'll get some pix of it's new home up soon. You can see more here and here.

We recently had to move - we live in Kuwait and since we're not locals we can't own property so when the landlord says go you go. Anyways, it has afforded us the opportunity to setup a new layout in Godwins Hollow. We've got everything planned out and most of the existing buildings are where they should be but there is still lots of room for new! You can see more here and here.

The good people of Godwins Hollow had to have a house of worship so St. Thomas Church came to be. Some folks don't take to the non-purist stained glass windows but when lit from the inside we think they're pretty neat. Hope you enjoy. You can see more here and here.

Following the rest of or recent postings here's the Expanded Grand Emporium from our city Godwins Hollow. In our old layout the GE was in a spot that required an inside corner so we expanded it to complete that inside corner. We've got a bakery, groceries, clothing, electronics, furniture, toys, candy, and an arcade inside. Hope ya enjoy. You can see more here and here.

This is another of the main buildings in our city - Godwins Hollow. We really liked the official city hall but needed something bigger so we expanded it. The inside of the building has lots of details - a DMV, jury deliberation room, court room, judge's office, mayor's office, city council room, and press briefing room. Hope you enjoy. You can see more of the building here and here and the park around the building here and here.

This is the home of the Godwins Hollow Police Department. This MOC isn't exactly a modular as it was built to be a stand alone facility but it is modular in so much as the floors are all removable so the interiors can be viewed. You can see more here and here.
