GBC General Discussion
Ankoku replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I noticed this, but held off from posting it. I love the iteration/testing process that goes into GBC design. The counterbalance design of the dropper bucket is nice.- 1,124 replies

Awesome. Thanks @jonwil !

It seems vaguely appropriate to this thread. Any idea what is going on with this piece: There are a number of sellers on BrickLink with over 100 of them in stock, yet this piece in the colour Black appears in no official LEGO sets. Are these black pieces legit? Or is it just a lack of inventory data on BrickLink? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=27925#T=S&C=11&O={"color":"11","iconly":0}

I don't think LEGO puritanism applies to transformers.

Impressively, I forgot to order 51x Black Technic, Liftarm 1 x 9 Thick for the cup-to-cup module. I used a printout to workout what I already have and collect it all together, then remove what I have from the Bricklink list I printed. This usually works fine, but they were on a page where it was the only item on that page I didn't have, it was also on the backside of the print out. Doh!

GBC General Discussion
Ankoku replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not sure if the person posts here, but I like the design of this GBC module. Has nice idea behind it, works smoothly and it is quite original. I get the feeling someone will end up using what you see in this in a more polished, fancier looking version.- 1,124 replies

I have been trying Stud.io and managed to get the odd piece in far flung areas due to snapping issues and the fact that space bar also places a piece as well as allowing you to move the camera. I still need to add a rubber band and flexible hose stuff. Not looking forward to it.

Well spotted, my mistake. I wish these things were clearer. It is impossible to spot the difference on the laptop I use to build with. Ah well, I have already placed the order.

I would almost prefer that. When you are buying parts as required, this has basically just halted my build. I honestly thought these things were automatically generated, especially when they appear in the same PDF file. Lesson learned.

Has anyone else noticed that the part list for the Cup to Cup GBC module is incorrect? The downloadable parts list and PDF instructions both state you need 2x Dark Bluish Grey Plate 2 x 8, yet by page 7, you already need 3 of them. This worries me for the rest of the build.

Paternoster GBC
Ankoku replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry about that. I tend to hold off when it is a new design of GBC, to see if the creator posts it. It will be nice to have this appear in more GBC line-ups.- 37 replies

Had some issues placing an element, so they got flung far and wide. The problem I now have is the fact that I have checked all elements in the sub-model via the menu on the right and they are all in the right places, yet this huge box remains. I have moved the camera around, checking everywhere around this box and I can't see what is keeping it this big. On a similar sub-model, I could see the pieces making the box big, deleted them and the box shrunk down to the size it should be. Any ideas?

Stud.IO Hinge Issue
Ankoku replied to Ankoku's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yeah. I am having issues with the fact that you can multi-select, then press CTRL and multi-select again. After you draw that initial rectangle to select stuff, you then have to add to that one by one. This is bad news if some elements are hidden from view. -
[GBC] Cardan Lift
Ankoku replied to torso's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good luck. It is the syncing which was the real issue for me. Still don't believe I have it correct. -
So, I am trying to build "The Sun" GBC in Stud.IO and finding that it is not the friendliest of packages when it comes to doing Technic. I have this selection (I wish you could save selections), I need to rotate it on the axle highlighted by the red circle, so that it slopes down from left to right. Any idea how I do that?

[GBC] Akiyuki Ball Factory
Ankoku replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would seriously advise doing the shifter arms like this: Which is how Akiyuki has done them. It makes them rigid. For those who can't get a hold of that piece, they can just use a 1x6 plate as a replacement. The method used in the instructions is wobbly and off-putting.- 465 replies

[GBC] Akiyuki Ball Factory
Ankoku replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
All images I have from Akiyuki are posted earlier in this thread. There are only 2 sets. Here are the images I took the other night. https://bricksafe.com/pages/Ankoku/akiyuki-ball-factory-close-ups Surgery went well, but keeping it elevated all the time is a nightmare. I was thinking about the changes to the factory. The only bit which was pretty much correct was the wheel and wheel mover. Everything else required some fairly substantial changes. For me, the bit that still needs improving is the bucket unloading tower and Bob. I made quite a few changes to Bob (The bit which holds the bucket), which differ from Akiyuki, but there is still room for improvement or complete redesign. The rest I am happy with and are basically identical to the Akiyuki original. I am actually really happy with the slight reworking over the ball dropper, certainly doesn't drop balls and with the corrections to the tower, it is a far more positive movement anyhow. Fixing the tower made this part of the factory run super smoothly.- 465 replies

Also, for public displaying, you can see in this video, Akiyuki has added bracing for the antenna. For home personal use, I don't think it is needed. I bought the pieces for it, but I haven't installed them due to lack of need for person use.

[GBC] Akiyuki Ball Factory
Ankoku replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here are his images of the Ball Dropper Tower. The tower required a bunch of changes to get it back to his original design. It worked way better as it requires less tight syncing. https://bricksafe.com/pages/Ankoku/akiyuki-ball-dropper These are Akiyuki's shifter photos. They include changes he has made since it was last shown in a video: https://bricksafe.com/pages/Ankoku/akiyuki-shifter- 465 replies

Earlier in this thread, I think I may have posted images. Several images are just from his videos, as the change is either simple or it is best you choose your own solution. This is the really simple bracing change. It is just way better. You can also see the lack of slips below the wheel. Just bare studs. I removed the slopes as they were snagging the wheel. Here you can see there is a stud keeping the gear housing in place. This means there is a stud either side if my memory serves me correctly. This is not the case with the instructions and the housing weighs on the axles, creating extra friction. This is the important change which makes it operate far better: This is just proof of concept, returning it to the original design. I didn't have the right pieces at the time. Above, I am using 3x 1x1 Technic Brick with a 3L pin through them. I will brace them with a plate either side. You can see there is a plate there from the instructions, I am just going to spread that out over the black. The main change though, is that this off-ramp sits one plate flower. The instructions have it one plate higher, which doesn't match the original and doesn't work as well. I am thinking about having that middle 1x1 Technic Brick and changing it to a 1x2 Technic Brick with 2 holes. This will make the tile more secure.

[GBC] Akiyuki Ball Factory
Ankoku replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Moving it and taking photos of it last night reminded me of just how big the thing is! As a reminder, my BrickSafe has more images from Akiyuki. Do you want me to post them here? They are just sitting there, publicly available.- 465 replies
